Like Father
Chapter Five:
Seeing Is Believing
There he is… That must be the little human he told me about. Huh, Jakken looks the same. Ugly as usual… I actually miss him, the old lump of toad. I wish that little brat would stop running around master Jakken screaming. You'd think uncle would've gone deaf by now, or that master Jakken would've at least tripped her.
"Rin. Stop it."
"Yes, my Lord."
"Jakken, do you smell that?"
"It wasn't me, m-master Sesshoumaru! I sweat it!"
"No, I mean that scent. It smells almost like my baby brother. Is that you, Inuyasha?" Sesshoumaru called coolly to his surroundings.
Kiara stepped from behind a tree downwind from her uncle and slowly walked towards him. "Close, but no." She called back.
Sesshoumaru turned his head slightly to see her coming closer. He turned to survey her coolly. "What do you mean? What do you want?"
"My name is Kiara. You don't know me, at least not right now, but you will sometime in the distant future. I've come to thank you, and apologize."
"You barely carry the scent of a demon. What would you dare thank me for?"
"I am your brother's child. I come from the future, though I'm not exactly sure how. I need to thank you now, for caring for me after my mother is killed, and for protecting myself and my mother after my father's death."
Suddenly Sesshoumaru is in front of her. "You dare presume I could be related to someone of only a quarter-breed?" He growls menacingly.
A feeble smile comes to her lips. "I do not fear you, uncle. I respect and admire you greatly. You can kill me… we're about to battle to the death in my future anyhow. I don't want to fight you, I know I won't win; I'm already injured gravely, but whatever comes to pass, I want you to know I truly am sorry. In my future, you've been possessed by a great evil. It doesn't have a gender, but it is bent on destroying me. And one way or another I'm sure it will. You are all I have left, and if I cannot save you from the darkness, if you end up killing me, I won't blame you. You could destroy the entire world, and I couldn't blame you. I'd only be sorry I couldn't save you, but know I will die trying." She kissed his cheek lightly and then inclined her head to him. "I thank you, Lord Sesshoumaru, and for whatever comes to pass in my future, you have my sincerest apologies, uncle."
With that said she turned and began walking away slowly.
Sesshoumaru watched her go coldly.
"Lord Sesshoumaru, are you really going to let that quarter-breed talk to you like that?"
"Silence, Jakken. It would injure my pride to kill someone that has gone insane and is already wounded. Besides, she is already close to death. It hovers around her."
"She was brave. Rin thought Lord Sesshoumaru said his brother was a coward. She must have got her bravery from Lord Sesshoumaru, then."
