From childhood's hour I have not been
As others were; I have not seen
As others saw; I could not bring
My passions from a common spring
From the same source I have not taken
My sorrows; I could not awaken
My heart to joy at the same tone
And all I loved, I loved alone
Then- in my childhood, in the dawn
Of a most stormy life- was drawn
From every depth of good and ill
The mystery which binds me still:
From the torrent, or the fountain,
From the red cliff of the mountain,
From the sun that round me rolled
In its autumn tint of gold,
From the lightning in the sky
As it passed me flying by,
From the thunder and the storm,
And the cloud that took the form
(When the rest of Heaven was blue)
Of a demon in my view.

Down the spiral staircase, into the vast, grungy room, staring into the darkness, cut through by large, iron bars with the same grungy look, grime and dirt everywhere, and very damp and cold.
The sky outside was blue, but the eyes peering from the darkness were hungry and red-
Naruto jerked awake, sitting bolt upright in bed. He glanced around his room, over to his alarm clock. 4:30 AM. Damn fox.
He dragged himself out of bed, pulling off his beaver nightcap and matching pajamas. He slipped into the restroom, and observed his face in the mirror. He no longer bore a cherubic, cute little boy's face; his baby fat was gone, he was actually rather gaunt now. His once deep, blue eyes were now a shallow and biting cyan. The whisker markings on his face had thinned out with his body, and were longer. He looked like an adult, but he was only 15. He turned on the shower, twisting the knob slowly, his other hand beneath the icy water, waiting for it to become bearable. After five minutes, the water was nice and warm, though not hot as he would have liked it. He placed both of his hands on the wall for support and let the water pour over him, head down, staring at the water as it poured down the drain. He felt disheartened, he did alot these days. He turned off the water, stepped out of the shower and dried off quickly. He tugged into black pants and a net undershirt, followed soon by bright orange pants and jacket, and a tightly fastened hitai-ate. He ran long, slender fingers through soft golden hair, the one thing about him that hadn't dulled- or was it?
He had become more mature, he no longer spoke loudly, because he knew that no matter how he screamed, no one would pay him notice. That was just fine, those fuckers would see exactly how great Uzumaki Naruto could be. Just wait... They'll all be sorry, and kissing his ass when he saves them from some indomitable force. And then they will beg HIM to be Hokage, and he will take his time in agreeing, saying 'Oh... I don't know.. it seems like it wouldbe kind of.. troublesome...'-
No no! That was all wrong, too much like that lazy idiot Shikamaru. Oh well, he still had a year or two to rehearse.
Yeah, he was the same, arrogant, number one hyperactive loud ninja Uzumaki Naruto. His soul was still throwing challenges and talking shit to the sun, bright gold and orange, still dancing on a vertigo of something or another that he knew and didn't. No one would ever read between his lines, so he would have to write it out in bold for all to see. He would, one day. He would put the damned Kitsune on a leash and parade her around for all to see. 'Hahahahaha! What is so fearsome about this kawaii inu!?'.
He couldn't surpress the arrogant, asshole grin from spreading accross his face. He tore out of his door and towards the training ground.
This balance between depression and arrogance only made the boy that much harder to figure out, to get along with. Sasuke laughed blatantly as he stood on the roof of Naruto's home, watching him dash away. His sharingan abilities were to the point where he could read people's emotions, and Naruto's were the most amusing to him. He was almost addicted to the swirls of red and blue clashing through the boy's mind... No, he was addicted. Some people said the information overdrive of Sasuke's great talent was driving him insane. He was almost capable of fully using the mange sharingan without any side effects for himself. He no longer concealed his predatorial eyes, they were always there, frightening many. Even Sakura had grown shy of the dark-haired shinobi.
Sasuke wasn't crazy, just very, very, different. Naruto and Kakashi were the only ones who treated him the same, regardless of his strange new way of acting. He and Naruto were both Jounin now. Sasuke had to admit, had it not been for his constant bickering with the other, he wouldn't have progressed like he had. In fact, he probably wouldn't have passed the Jounin exam on his first try. They had hated and fought and kicked and yelled and bit and tore and screamed, and then when they were bruised and bleeding and panting and tired, they had leaned on eachother. Sasuke with an arrogant smirk, Naruto with an arrogant grin. Leaving a trail of blood and chakra behind them, they rapped on Sakura's door.
"We passed."
Naruto smiled at the memory, as did Sasuke. Sasuke was wondering if they had both been thinking of it at the same time, or if Naruto's flashback had triggered his own.. or the other way around. He didn't really care, last time he had thought so abstractly, he had killed something. Or had it been someone? He didn't remember.
Naruto arrived at the training ground, and put his hands together to create a bunshin, when a black blur skidded past him and stopped on a 23.64 degree angle from him. Naruto grinned broadly at his analytical abilities, and at Sasuke.
"It's 23.65, dobe." Sasuke smiled, it was not feral for a change.
Naruto laughed. "Let's fight, you asshole."
"I'm up."

"They're still so immature..." Kakashi's smile hid behind his mask, but his eye gleamed. He dissappeared in a cloud of smoke.

Will be continued... I was actually planning on making this one merely a deeper insight on how blondie and goth's FRIENDSHIP developed, as opposed to making it a romance (SasuNaru=favorite pairing)... Though I don't know. There might be a little fluff, though I have extremely high doubts about any explicit sex. I dunno.... I'm leaning more towards gore and destruction, I'm in a Hellsing mood. Only time will tell... And I ought to be working on my NejiHina fic u.u; Hope you liked~!
