Chapter 1: New Girl

*home*

The first thing I did was look in the mirror- at my red eyes and short silver hair. No one liked it... You could tell...

*school*

'I can't believe my luck,' I told myself silently. 'No math! I can't believe the teacher was sick four days in a row! Advanced calculus sucks! And in 7th grade... '

"Hey, D!" I heard three sets of footsteps coming toward me.

The girl stood up and said, "I'll stand, sir."

The teacher looked at the girl, confused. "Are you sure, Shade?" he asked.

She nodded rapidly, and went to the back of the class. Shade...

I sat down. Why was she so kind? She didn't even know me. Her hair was silver, like mine, and her eyes were bright red. And that name... It was beautiful, and so mysterious.

She leaned against the wall and listened to the teacher as he continued his conversation.

After English was over I left, forgetting almost completely about the girl...
