Chapter 2: No Emotion

*Walking Home*

I walked slowly, not in any hurry to get home. "Dilandau!" shouted a voice from behind me.

I turned to see Shade running toward me. Slowly, I stopped. She caught up to me, and caught her breath. In an instant, an image of my mother flashed through my mind. They looked so alike... I jumped away from her.

"Dilandau, what's wrong?" she asked, puzzled. Shade reached out to touch my shoulder. When she did, we were enveloped in a light so thick and bright I couldn't see through it. We were lifted off the ground, and almost instantly set back down. The light disappeared, and Shade let go of my shoulder. It looked like we were in feudal Japan. Something snarled in the bushes.

"Calm down, Koga. It's me." Shade said. About twenty wolves emerged from the bushes.

"And who's he?!" asked a voice from the bush.

"A new friend, if you must know." She answered.

"I thought you couldn't get any friends because everyone knows you're a dirty-blooded demon?"

I turned and looked at her. She side-eyed me. "A demon?!" I shouted. "WHY DIDN'T YOU TELL ME?!?!"

"Oh, yeah, that would go over well; 'hey, Dilandau! I'm a half-blood mystical demon from feudal Japan!' Yeah, that would be a great conversation."

"Good point," I said to her. "But no one would think I had ever been the most feared general on Gaea. Trust me, I would have understood, Shade."

The leaves in the trees shook. Shade bent towards me and said, "We'd better get out of here before my brother shows; he can get pretty mad at times."

"You should listen to her," said the voice in the bushes. "She only says things when they're true. D'you know why?" I shook my head. "Because she's almost totally emotionless. Shade fears nothing, so she never lies."

Shade pulled me into the bushes toward the voice. "Koga, take care of him. I'll take care of Inu-Yasha. Take him back to the village, and make sure no one harms him."

"Okay, Shade... Are you sure he'll be safe? Miroku might have something against him."

"Yes, I'm sure."

Koga pulled me along. "Why is she emotionless?" I asked.

"She watched her parents die. After that, she lost all feeling besides anger. Quite sad, really."

It really was sad...
