Chapter 3: How it Was

Finally, we came to a cottage. Koga shoved me in the door, and I fell to the ground gasping for air. Now, in the light of the cottage, I could see him. Koga was a little taller than me, and he had short hair. In the flickering light of the fire, it was hard to tell whether it was brown or black. His eyes were shadowed...

"Don't touch him, Miroku," Koga said coldly.

"Who said I was going to?" said another man. I looked up, still gasping, and saw that he was sitting in a corner, shadowed by the dark night air.

"Where am I?" I gasped.

Both men laughed.

"What's so funny?"

"Look behind you!" the one in the corner said, and continued laughing.

I turned to see what was behind me, almost fearing it. The only good thing about the picture was Shade. Beside her was her older brother. He had short pointy ears on top of his head, yellow eyes, and long white hair.

I fainted (yes, I- Dilandau Albatou, once the most feared general in all of Gaea- fainted), and fell to the floor.

I found myself in a strange dark room. It was growing steadily brighter and brighter.

An entity appeared in front of me. She reached out to me, and said, "Dilandau Albatou, do you think you understand Shade?" I nodded. "You don't. I'm here to show you, but only if you are willing to see." I grabbed her hand, and the air rushed by. We were in a hallway, just outside an open door. The woman motioned for me to look. There was a man and a woman sitting on the bed in the room. They spoke rapidly to each other, and I soon saw a girl coming down the hall. She looked like Shade... she peeked in the door just in time to see two men slip in the window and slit their throats. The men then slipped out the window, and set the house on fire.

Shade escaped, but only narrowly.

The wind rushed by again, and I found myself looking at Shade (a little older), and the man who was sitting in the corner of the cottage. But... that tunnel of wind... What was it? Shade was holding to the dry ground, trying not to get pulled into the tunnel. All of the sudden, Shade lost conciseness and went hurtling toward the man. The tunnel of wind disappeared, and the man caught Shade. However, she was going so fast that it knocked the man off of his feet. The wind rushed again, and I saw Shade talking with the man. They were obviously arguing. "Shade, I know it's hard for a pyro-maniac, but you must control your powers! You could hurt yourself, or someone else! You're out of your mind! YOU NEED TO EITHER CONTROL YOURSELF, OR BIND YOUR POWERS!!"

"NO, MIROKU!" Shade shouted. "MY POWERS ARE A PART OF MY LIFE! IF YOU TAKE THEM AWAY, I'LL GO MAD!!!"

The wind rushed again, and I saw Shade and her older brother. They looked confused... It was as if they had never met before... "Have you seen enough, Dilandau?" whispered the entity. I just nodded. The wind rushed again, and I woke up. Shade sat in the middle of the cottage, poking the fire with a stick... It was kind of frightening, knowing that she was a pyro-maniac...
