Don't Cry Tonight

Summary: Poetry-The spirit of Pony's mother says "good night" as Pony sleeps, the night before the events of the Outsiders. Just a sweet, loving poem, but also, sad....

Don't Cry Tonight

A small wind blew through the Curtis house at eleven o'clock at night, as the brothers-one after the other-got into their beds. It blew, rustling through Pony's hair, pushing it back with a light touch. A soft voice came with it, soothing yet inaudible to Pony as he drifted into sleep....

Baby
sleep good tonight
pull those covers up to your chin
and hold on to your brother
hold on

dream something pretty
think of sunsets and rivers
and think of baked apple pies
like I made you
think of me
think of your daddy
but baby, don't cry
don't cry tonight

you got enough ahead of you
and you'll get through it
baby, as sure as I love you
you'll get through it

let me see
a smile 'cross your face
let me see it while you sleep
tonight
cause tomorrow
i'm gonna have to see you cry
