Every Time You Go Away

There she goes again. Doesn't she realize that I only pretend to hate her? Can't she see that I would drop the façade in a second if only my father were different? But it can never be a reality. Fact: she's Hermione Granger, a Mudblood. Granted, a smart, talented, Mudblood, but still, if she isn't a pureblood, then Father will neither approve of it nor allow it.

I'm ashamed to admit it, but the evening that I realized that we could never be together, I actually went back to my room and cried myself to sleep. I guess you're probably wondering what could make a pureblood, especially a Malfoy, fall in love with a common Mudblood. It's a long story, but it isn't like I have anything else to do.

In the beginning, I thought she was just another annoying Mudblood, with her irritating habit of knowing everything in every class. When Professor Snape scolded her for daring to raise her hand to answer a question in our first Potions class, I couldn't understand why. I know now that he didn't like the fact that a Mudblood had known the answer to what he considered a very difficult question. Even during the flying class after I had, um, borrowed Longbottom's Remembrall, she was telling Potter not to chase me. I would like to think that this was because she didn't want me in any danger, but honestly, I think that she didn't want Potter to get in trouble.

I thought I had gotten rid of Potter after I challenged him to a wizard's duel, but no luck. Somehow they managed to avoid being caught by Filch, and at Hogwarts they remained, despite my best efforts. I thought I still had a chance, until they managed to rescue her from a troll that got into the school. From that point, I considered both Potter and Weasley my enemies.

End Part One

Author Note: Like it? Hate it? Just let me know one way or the other. J
