Extreme courage
Part 2: a trial of minds
On a massive desert battlefield, two men stand facing each other. One man, Amuro Yuy, you already know. His opponent, Shingo Kaeda, is a world- renowned gundam pilot who is famous for his ghost dan technique. His technique increases the speed of his gundam to a point that it moves quicker than the human eye.
To beat his opponent Amuro is going to have to rely on all his skill and talent plus highly patented "perfect berserker" technique. For those of you that have just joined us lets recap on the situation that led to this battle. 3 weeks ago the two presidents of the gundam project: Wing Zero met to discuss whom their best candidate for the Zero was. In the meeting the battle between Amuro and several new-type gundams was mentioned and so he was selected to be one of the candidates for the Zero.
Now back to the battle, the two men squared off then in exact unison called for their gundams...
Amuro: "X5, lets roll."
Shingo: "BLADE ZERO, online."
The mobile trace system immediately responded and identified the opposing gundam...
MTS: "Gundam Blade Zero identified, standard model xxg-010 type. It has reduced weight and high-powered thrusters, no other weapons besides his beam saber. Why would he reduce his weight and weapons cache at the risk of losing a lot of his defensive and offensive ability?"
Amuro: "Sometimes it doesn't matter how much defense you have if you don't have the skill to back it up. You probably wouldn't understand so just watch what he's doing right now."
No sooner had Amuro said those words, that his opponent thrust himself forward and instantly disappeared. Although the mobile trace couldn't even detect the blade zero anymore, Amuro just sat there moving his eyes following his opponent, who was dancing around him like a grasshopper. One of the two men watching the fight couldn't understand what was going on. Whereas his partner could tell what he was doing, like a skilled chess player, Amuro was waiting for his opponent to make his first move to counter attack.
Sure enough Shingo made his first move in the form of a beam saber slash to X5's right arm. The X5 countered with a swift turn and made five blind shots in that direction. Moments after the attack the perplexed trace system inquired...
MTS: "Why did you fire like that when the best tactical solution would have been to turn and thrust in reverse to wait for his next move?"
Amuro: "That was the best tactical move, if I would've waited he would have had a chance initiate an immediate secondary move. But by me firing like I did I blew his chance to make his move."
Sure enough by Amuro firing his opponent had to retreat, but what Amuro hadn't expected the tactic to do was connect with his opponent. Sitting behind a small rock face, Shingo had realized that all five shots had put his right thruster out of commission. Seriously ticked Shingo called over the coms...
Shingo: "You little punk, if you've think you've won because of that shot' you've got another thing coming. I'm going to turn that outdated piece of shit into scrap metal."
Shingo burst out in a fit of rage; he attacked flying as fast as he could with one thruster. Amuro just extended his gundam's rifle to prepare to fire. Meanwhile, the two men watching the fight couldn't believe what they were seeing...
Mystery man 1: "What the hell is that pilot thinking? X5's pilot must've given up all hope because he's just standing there."
Mystery man 2: "No, he knows what's about to happen, Blade zero's pushing his one remaining thruster too hard. X5's waiting for the moment his thruster overloads to finish this."
Just as the 2nd man said this, Shingo's thruster exploded in a brilliant flash bright enough to blind the two mystery spectators. But Amuro had expected this and already planned where he was going to place the shots. He again fired five shots; by the time all the dust had cleared all that was left of the Blade Zero was just the torso.
Afterwards, in the hangar bay the two pilots meet. But it wasn't for friendly chat; Shingo ran forwards and threw a hard punch. Amuro dodged the punch causing Shingo to flip over the guardrail. Within seconds, the collar of his jacket was grabbed. He looked up to see Amuro was the one who had grabbed him. But the weird thing was Amuro had an evil smile on his face. You see Amuro was already stressed by the battle, when the reckless Shingo threw the punch at him it pushed him over the edge. Shingo was now staring at the coldhearted Neo Strider.
Neo strider: "Well, well, what do we have here, a dope on a rope. I wonder should I help you out and lift you up or should I just drop your sorry ass."
Luckily for Shingo was able to gain control over his alter ego. But what if he hadn't, if pushed to far will Amuro disappear all together and the maniacal Neo Strider be permanent. Well his training will make sure situation is deterred for a little while. But will something push Amuro to this level. Find in the next part of Extreme Courage.
