Disclaimer: These Characters are NOT mine. The Cast of Third Watch is owned by NBC, and the Character is owned by Fyre.
Thank You: To Fyre for letting me use her character and listening to my babbling!
Synopsis: This takes place at the end of September Tenth and before After Time. Bosco learns one of his relatives is in the WTC Collapse. Will she survive? Will he survive knowing she may not make it?
NOTE: This story is based on the events of September 11th and is NOT meant to insult or hurt anyone.. If you do not like hearing about 9/11 PLEASE DO NOT read. Thought I used to be a Paramedic, it was a long time ago, and NOT in NYC, so I do not know their schedules, I am going based on what I saw in the show September Tenth. Some of the chapters are very short. Simply because I didn't want to squish parts together.
September Tenth
It was 10:45 PM as I laid there, looking around, trying to go to sleep after that last fire. We have had 4 false alarms and it was starting to annoy me. Looking towards Jimmy and Alex, watching them sleep I sat up, looking around myself, stretching and going downstairs. Trailing me fingers across the front of the truck I wondered if an actual fire would ever happen sometime before my shift ended at 8 AM the next morning. I looked up at the night sky, not really thinking, just sitting on the engines bumper, when I heard a voice nearby.
"Hey Merc..."
I looked up and saw my older brother, Maurice, standing over me
"Hey yourself..." I trailed off, my eyelids half closed, I must have looked terrible because the way he was staring at me was freaking me out. "What?"
"Are you all right? Have anything on your mind?" He asked as he sat next to me.
"We have had 4 false alarms to the same block, and I haven't slept for 2 nights. We keep getting calls and every time I finally fall asleep.. The alarm goes off again." I looked down as I interlaced my fingers together resting my arms on my lap. My legs were spread like a boy, since you really have to be "one of the guys" to be a female firefighter.
"Try to get some sleep... Are you still eating well?" He stared at me warily as I looked up at him, my eyes still half closed as my right eyebrow went up inquisitively. Shaking my head I sigh.
"That was 5 years ago... Yes I am eating.." I stood up, stretching slightly, looking down at my body. For 5'6" I had gone from about 98 lbs of skin and bone, to 145 lbs of muscle. I realized why he asked that, because I hadn't eaten, there was no time with the calls we were getting, I hadn't had a full meal in close to 36 hours. I was curious how he could possibly know that without really knowing anything about my eating habits as of late.
"Look at me, Merc... I work across the street.. We work in the same precinct, I know when you go to calls and I know you haven't eaten much. Want to go get a burger down the street? My treat." He looked at me tilting his head, giving me that same look I gave him when I wanted something out of him. My blue eyes looked into his. It was scary how we had the same eyes, and expressions.
"I can't leave the building. If get another call, I have to be here." Looking back down I sighed. God a Burger sounds good right now. I thought to myself as I moved my foot nervously. My stomach growled, wincing, I was hoping Mo didn't hear it. After a moment my eyes looked up slowly, a slight pout on my lips. As my eyes moved up I could see a slight scowl and a look of disappointment in his eyes.
"Why did you lie to me, Merc? I have the same bizarre schedule as you, I know how it is, and you could have just told me. Even if I have to bring you back food, I will if you want me to." My eyes looked down, I knew he could see the sadness on my face. I didn't mean to lie. I almost never lied to Maurice. Maybe an exaggeration here and there, especially about the rape 6 years ago. Some things were better-left alone.
"I didn't lie, really.. You asked if I had eaten, you didn't say when." I looked up at him, my eyebrows perking up, the innocent expression of a joke crossing my lips as I looked into his eyes, hoping they softened from the stern, disappointed look he had across his face.
"Don't twist my words around." As I expected he softened, and gave me a slight smile. As his mouth opened to say something I didn't hear the alarm went off.
"Squad 55. Possible Fire at 2844 82nd Street."
"Damn it... I almost took you up on the burger offer too!" I looked up at him as I backed up and shrugged, smiling.
"Be Careful! I love you!" He called out walking towards his car, backward, watching me.
"As Always!" I yelled back as I spun around running for my gear.
I already had boots, coat, head protection and helmet on as the rest of the fire fighters stumbled down the stairs. I shook my head smiling as I climbed up into the truck, the address in my hand, ready to pass it off to the driver, smiling at Jimmy as he sat across from me as he yawned and rubbed his eyes, I turned around passing the address to Walsh. As we pulled out I glanced towards Maurice's car and saw him leaning on the hood, looking towards my seat. I waved as we took off, smiling as I finished clipping my coat to protect me.
