Maurice picked up the phone and heard heavy panting. He knew it was someone with labored breathing. Then he heard it.. the glorious rasps of Mercedes voice. Listening to her pleas for help he run towards the jumble of steel and rock trying to call to her. Jimmy and Alex saw him, running over as he started yelling her name like a mad man. Kim and Doc, Carlos came up behind him as all of 55 surrounded him, unsure of what was going on. "Mercedes! ANSWER ME! Come on Love! TALK! PLEASE!" He started screaming for her louder and louder. Lieu grabbed the phone and talked into it.
"I can hear Breathing! It low, and labored but its there!" All of 55 cheered, then went back to work, double time, trying to find her. Swertzky ran over and asked what happened. Looking down at the crumpled mess that was Bosco, he sighed.
"We can trace her line! The phone is still on. If we keep Bosco's phone on, we can try and get the phone company to trace what part of the rubble she is in. The signal was strong enough where she is either close to the surface or she has a strong signal." Lt. Christopher exclaimed, already sending someone to do it.
Bosco collapsed onto to the rubble. He was past crying. HE laid on the concrete saying his sister's name over and over. Faith reached down to help him up. As he slowly got up, he heard his mother calling his name. Looking up he saw her running towards him with Mikey. Bosco looked confused, and looked for the phone, not realizing Lt. Christopher took it to get a trace. "Ma..."
Rose pulled him into a hug as she cried on his chest, Mikey stood between them, his eyes blood shot and red rimmed. Faith hugged Rose and sighed, going back to work. Bosco looked down at his mother and sobbed. "She called me... She... She was in.. in.. pain.. " He bawled on his mother as he didn't know if she was dead now. Mikey went to ask something when Jimmy screamed for the 55 come over. He sounded slightly tired. Rose and Mikey ran over, expecting to hear something about Mercedes when Lieu stopped her.
"I can't let you over there.. I'm sorry.." Rose looked up, and started the hysterics. Jimmy looked at Alex as Walsh brought over a flag with a backboard. They moved the backboard over and quietly lifted the body they recognized only by the 55 pins and hair as the new guy from the morning shift. Mikey pushed past Doc and Carlos as he ran over. Bosco came up behind him.
"I want to see the body.." Mikey looked at Jimmy, who he didn't really know, only from talk from his sister. Jimmy looked at him, shaking his head.
"It's not her... It's Rick.. the man she was partnered up with.." Jimmy sighed, the search for survivors was turning into the search for remains. Taylor kept digging with a Carlos and Kim as Doc pulled Rose away towards the Bus. Mikey followed, escorted by Faith. Looking back at Bosco, who was just standing there, looking where the remains were, he shook his head, then saw something. Moving towards it, Alex grabbed it, looking it over to see who's it was. She yelled for the 55 to come over.
"I found her helmet! She can't be far!" Alex tossed the hat to Jimmy who started shoving stuff around, grabbing Walsh and others to help lift the heavy things. Bosco moved towards his mother. He felt defeated, weary and upset. Who was this Rick guy and why wasn't she paired with Jimmy. What was so important to Jimmy he couldn't pair up with my Love this time. If it wasn't for him she would never be in there and she would be here with us now, helping. The anger rose in his body as he turned from Mikey to Jimmy who was digging with a passion.
