"What do you want us to do, Sirius?"

It was nearing midnight on October 29. The autumn wind crackled against Godric's Hollow as Sirius stood facing Peter, James, Lily, and baby Harry. The Fidelius charm was about to be cast. All they needed was confirmation from the secret keeper.

"What do you want us to do, Sirius?"

Five minutes till midnight. Sirius knew he was most liable, that everyone would know he was Secret Keeper. He knew that information would be the death of him, of James, of his family –even the Wizarding World. Someone inconspicuous, someone like Peter may be a better choice for their safety.

"What do you want us to do, Sirius?"

Three minutes till midnight. But James trusted him, Sirius, with his life and the lives of those he loved. That wasn't an honor to throw away lightly, to give to someone lesser. Though they loved Peter dearly, if he was caught he wouldn't have the same strength Sirius had to hold out against the backlash. Sirius was nothing if not loyalty.

"What do you want us to do, Sirius?"

One minute till midnight. Sirius looked at James and nodded.

"I will be your Secret Keeper."
