A Single Red Rose
Lorelai sat in her dark room, studying her walls. Three hours earlier, she had trudged into Luke's, with Rory in tow, after the wonderful shopping adventure.
She absentmindedly stroked the shirt which now lay on her bed. Her hand found its way to a certain spot in which a certain rose was residing in earlier that day, the certain rose that was keeping her up tonight.
'There's no significance in that rose.' she told herself, but she knew she was wrong. Even if the giving of the rose hadn't meant anything to her, which it did, it probably meant something to Luke.
Luke. He was always there. 'He's my rock, but is he more than that?' she asked. Of course he is. Neither she nor Rory would have been able to make it day in and day out without him. More so herself than Rory.
Rory. Lorelai sighed. She had finally been able to see her busy Yale baby. And who had been her companion when she was gone? Who helped her get by when Rory was at school? Luke.
He was something special. She certainly could have used a Luke in Hartford. He probably would have been able to stop her from making those decisions. But since there was no Luke, she'd ended up pregnant.
'That wasn't so bad,' she thought. She was blessed with Rory, the best kid ever, and she met this Luke. Her Luke. 'But he's not mine,' she reminded herself sadly.
Luke was an important part of her life. He drover her to the hospital when her dad was sick. He waited with her, comforted her, and she repaid him with a hat. A blue baseball cap. 'Come to think of it, he barely takes it off,' she smiled to herself. Maybe she meant something more to him, too. Maybe she had a chance.
She closed her eyes and fell back on her bed, grinning from ear to ear. "Luke," she whispered. Now she knew why she gave him the rose. She knew that smile, that warmth that was Luke. He deserved more than that blue cap and that rose.
Bachelorette Lorelai Gilmore had given away her rose and her heart. Not to Chris, not to Max, not to Jason. She gave it to Luke.
