"Kagome, dear. Is that you?"

No awnser.

"Kagome?"

She walked silently into the shrine, trying to avoid everyone. Their questions. 'I can even hear them. I must be going crazy or something.' She thought miserably to herself, as she climbed up the steps to her room, dropping her bag and bike at the foot of the stairs.

The oak door creaked open, as she walked over to her bed. Her room, the same way she had left it. The one thing that wouldn't change in her life. She turned the knob on the radio, as an American song came on. Kagome hummed along with the words, trying to forget about him. She didn't notice the fact that tears were now falling beside her face.

'Why can't I just forget?'

"Lemme go, Miroku! I'm going to tell him! He probably doesn't even realize she's gone!" Sango kept struggling, but Miroku kept a firm grasp on her forearm.

"I can't let you go, Lady Sango." He replied sternly.

"Why, are you on her side now? Do you really want Kagome to be gone forever?" She snapped.

"I wish nothing more then for Lady Kagome to come back, but Inuyasha must realize on his own that she's gone. He must finally decide between the two, Kikyo or Kagome." He whispered.

"So, they've all broken up. The taijya is fighting with houshi, and the whelp has gone with the miko, the one there...Kikyo," His blue eyes gazed into the field ahead, where the silver haired hanyou lay beside the miko. "Fool,he is as much a fool as I thought for hurting Kagome."he whispered as he ran back off towards his cave.

"Inuyasha. You're troubled."

"No,Kikyo. It's nothing.It's just----"

"You're wondering if you made the right choice," She finished for him, barley above a whisper. Her brown eyes showed emotions, for possibly the first time ever. Inuyasha looked down to where Kikyo was sitting.

"Inuyasha. I cannot say that I didn't know you would think about her, and the fact about your choice. I did not know, however, that it would hurt this much to see you like this. To see you care for another so deeply. I can tell you that she is willing herself to forget this place. Forget that this ever happened and forget that she ever met you. This may be possible,"

Inuyasha looked worried for a moment as she continued, "provided it is only the hanyou you that she forgets. Not the real you. You have been trapped by the past for a long time, Inuyasha. Trapped by what happened those many years ago. That is history now, and Kagome is the present. Do you understand what I mean?"

"Hai, Kikyo."

"Then go to her, Inuyasha. Go and finally free yourself." He nodded and ran off before she could say another word. Kikyo closed her eyes, and titled her head towards the ground. She carefully whipped away the tears from her eyes, as she slowly stood.

'Someone must have seen her in the village. She couldn't have left to long ago. I can still smell her sent...lilacs and roses...' Inuyasha sped off towards the village, thinking about what Kikyo had said.

"She's willing herself to forget...Trapped by the past...Kagome is the present..."

He entered the village, looking around. The somber shadows of villagers looked empty, like they had just lost all the happiness in the lives. He walked towards Kaedae's hut, and slowly drew open the curtain. In the corner, her could see Sango, with her head on Miroku's shoulder as they looked into the fire. He sniffed the air. Something was different from the last time he had been here. The smell of dispair and misery, the smell of tears.

"She's gone, isn't she?" HE whispered. Miroku and Sango turned their heads towards the new voice.

Sango nodded sadly, and by the light of the fire Inuyasha could see her tear-streaked face.
