Okay, so this is my first songfic, but I really wanted to try some because
I love imagining my favorite characters singing my favorite songs!
PS. I don't own any of the songs, but I will say who does when the time is right.

Sano – If you leave me now, you'll take away the biggest part of me. Ooohh, no, baby please don't go!
[Megumi stands with Kenshin and a teary-eyed Kaoru, saying her goodbyes before going back to Aizu. Sano notices as he's walking up, and decides to simply watch from around the corner, facial expression growing dimmer and dimmer as the conversation progresses.]
Megumi – And if you leave me now, you'll take away the very heart of me. Ooohh, no, baby please don't go!
[Sano is sitting at a table in the Akabeko with his gambling buddies, telling them about his plans to travel the world. Megumi is at the next table with Dr. Gensai, Ayame, and Suzume. With her back to the men, though, she has no trouble overhearing their conversation. Her expression mirrors the one she didn't see on Sano's face earlier.]
Sano – Ooohh, girl, I just want you to stay!
[In her haste, Megumi gets up from the table, leaving a baffled doctor and his granddaughters. She walks right past Sano's table without looking, so that he might be able to put two and two together. He does, but realizes he's powerless at the moment because he can't abandon his friends.]
Megumi – A love like ours is love that's hard to find. How could we let it slip away?
Sano – We've come too far to leave it all behind. How could we end it all this way?
Both – When tomorrow comes, we'll both regret the things we said today...
(musical interlude)
[Sano and Megumi think back on all the times they shared (ie, flashback :P ). He fought for her against the Oniwaban at Kanryuu's mansion. She treated his wounds after every time he fought. They were always arguing and calling each other names, it didn't matter what it was about. (back to present) They each laughed inside at that, but neither was willing to admit that it really didn't matter that much.]
Sano – A love like ours is love that's hard to find. How could we let it slip away?
Megumi – We've come too far to leave it all behind. How could we end it all this way?
Both – When tomorrow comes, we'll both regret the things we said today...
[Sano leaves his buddies at the end of the meal and wanders around the city for a while. He's heading home when he spots Megumi standing on a bridge, gazing into the water. She jumps when he places an arm around her shoulders, so he turns her around to face him.
"If you leave me now, you'll take away the biggest part of me. Ooohh, no, baby please don't go!" She sings softly to him.
"Oh, girl, I just got to have you by my side..." he replies.
They look into each other's eyes in surprise, realizing finally that they feel the same way about each other.
"Ooohh, no, baby please don't go!"
"Oh, mama, I just got to have your lovin', yeah..."
They walk together the rest of the way home with identical smiles on their faces, her following the traditional couple steps behind him.

A/N: I hope I didn't give any of you cavities with that one... I originally thought I'd have this be a Kenshin/Kaoru, but I eventually decided this pairing fits better to the song. If you don't have to go see the dentist after reading this (or at least go brush your teeth), I invite you to come back for more as the mood swings me!
