Chapter 3: A New War
Trouble was brewing and another war was approaching. This time a man in Iraq named Saddam Hussien was the target. Christopher explained to the residents of the Wood that Saddam was a bad person and he had caused trouble in the past and hurt many people. Though everything was normal in the Hundred-Acre Wood, there was an air of fear. Whenever a plane flew over head they would run for cover. Gopher began digging bunkers and bomb shelters. Even Tigger wasn't as bouncy and jovial. Owl was the only one not worried. Being the worldly person he was he would often lecture his peers of the dangers of paranoia and remind them there is nothing to worry about. Owl also would fly out of the Wood and into town everyday with Kessie to find newspapers, magazines and listen to conversations on current events and relay the news to their friends. Still it did not decrease their anxiety. Another thing that made them crazy was the lack of news from Christopher Robin himself. They can't send him any letters because of the anthrax threat and they didn't have a computer to send e-mail. Christopher did send some letters, but they were few and far between and often they carry the threat of war.
Spring rolled around and there was much activity in the Hundred-Acre Wood. Rabbit was planting new crops, Piglet was doing spring-cleaning, and Pooh was looking for honey. All their worries were forgotten for a moment until Owl called them for a meeting for some important news. He just flew in from a night visit in town when he heard the president say he was going to send troops into Iraq in two days unless Saddam and hi sons leave. Everyone's fears came true. There was another war.
Sargent Christopher Robin was inspecting his rifle when he heard the news as well. Finally, we're moving, he thought. For the last three months he and his platoon waited in Kuwait for the orders to fight or leave. It was time to fight. Though excited that they were going to be some action, he couldn't help but be nervous. He was promoted to sergeant before his unit was shipped to Kuwait and to be promoted in less than three years was something, most are not promoted to sergeant until their fifth year of service. However the extra stripes brought extra responsibility. He was now in charge of an infantry squad of ten men, many of them older than he was. Never the less he was ready for battle and told his men to get their gear ready. The war went quickly. The American forces were met with little resistance, except for some minor firefights. In a month Christopher Robin was helping to topple statues of Saddam in Baghdad. Everyone in the Wood was celebrating they heard the news that the war was over. However the war was just starting.
