As I Die

Buffy turned and threw herself into the portal opening. Her mind was empty save for one thought, the world was safe. Slowly however memories of family, friends, past lovers glittered her thoughts.

Pain shot through her body as memories of Angel flittered to the surface. She may have dated other men and she may have fallen in love with Riley but the only man she truly ever loved she had never known alive. Angel.

Pain exploded in her chest as she thought of all the battles her, Xander, and Willow and fought together. She thought about her sister Dawn. Dawn may not really be her sister but all the same the fake memories offered more comfort and love than most of her real memories.

Her mind different farther back as to early Christmases with her parents, the ones without Dawn. Her friends from L.A. Her rivalry with Cordelia came to mind as well as her rivalry and oddly growing friendship with Spike.

Buffy felt her body tighten up and suddenly felt a sense of warmness. Warm. That was a feeling she had not felt in a very long time. Warm. She could hear and feel small breezes along the side of her. Where was she?

It didn't matter. She felt happy. For the first time in her life she felt truly happy. Nothing of the past mattered anymore. Not Xander, Willow, Spike, Giles, Angel, or even Dawn. None of them mattered anymore.

She was home.
