Allison Jerret was walking home from the movies with a group of friends. They stopped off at the stop'n'go for a soda, Christina lived a few buildings down so they dropped her off and continued walking. Hilary was the next to go up stairs to her home. This left Allison walking by herself, she lived several blocks away, but she wasn't worried, it wasn't even dark yet. She reached her house safely.

Allison saw a car she didn't recognize in the driveway. She went into the house to see what was going on. When she went into the kitchen she saw her mom and a man she didn't recognize he had short, sandy hair, and a yellow and black sweater on. She stood there for a moment before anyone realized she had come in. "Oh hello, dear" said Allison's mom with a cheerful smile "Do you remember your Uncle Rick?" Allison shook her head. "No, Probably not the last time you seen you were just a little girl, only about four or five." Her mother finished and returned to her conversation with Rick.

Time passed as Allison began to get to know her uncle. She found out he worked as a auto mechanic in Sydney, Nebraska, and that he would be moving to the city.

Allison had short, layered, auburn hair, she stood about 5'6, she wasn't thin but he wasn't big she was in the middle. She had a good sense of humor and a pretty smile.

The hours passed and about 10:00 Allison decided to head on up to bed; she had school in the morning. She slept soundly during the night, and woke well rested and ready to start the day. School went by rather fast. When she returned home she saw suitcases and a duffle bag by the front door. *Hmm..Maybe Uncle Rick was leaving already* Allison thought to herself. She continued into the house, threw her backpack on the couch, and headed for the kitchen.
"MOM!" Allison called as she grabbed an apple and a glass of orange juice from the fridge. Soon her mom came into the kitchen with a baseball hat, a navy t-shirt, shorts and flip-flops. She had a backpack slung over her shoulder. "Hey mom" Allison said boosting herself on the counter.
"Hey, darling" Said her mom going to hug her. "Allie, I have something to tell you," she continued sounding slightly nervous. "What is it mom?" Allison asked "Is someone hurt, is it daddy?" she asked her voice becoming anxious.

"No, no, no, nothing like that. I just wanted to tell you that I'm going to Texas for 3 weeks to see if I want to take a job there. You will stay here with Uncle Rick ok?" she said pulling herself onto the counter next to her daughter.

"I don't even know Uncle Rick, I know he's a mechanic and he's moving to the city that's all." said Allison turning to her mom. "It's ok, your safe with him, I have known him all my life." her mother replied taking one of her hands.

"No, mom that's not that. I just don't know him, I don't want to come home one day and have him give me a puppy." Said Allison with a smile. Allison was severely allergic to dogs. Her mom started to laugh "I'll make sure he doesn't get you a puppy." she said pulling Allison close and kissing the top of her head. "I love you Al."

"Love you, too Mom" Said Allison putting her arm around her mom for a hug. "So when are you leaving?" she asked as she hopped off the counter to put the core of her apple in the garbage and the cup in the sink. "My flight leaves at five o'clock. I'm on flight 186. Our lucky numbers 18 and 6" she said simply. Allison turned around and a tear rolled down her cheek. Her mom was the only thing Allison had. Her father had left her when she was 7, but she still loved him. He sent her a birthday card every year. And gave her a couple of Christmas presents once and awhile.

"MOM that in less than two hours!" she started to sob. Her mom opened her arms and Allison ran to them, as if for her life. Her mom closed her arms around her and started stroking her hair.

"Shhh…Shh..Shh..baby its ok I'll be back in a few weeks and you can call me anytime, day or night. I'll call you when I get there I'll call every morning before you go to school and every night." eventually the sobs began to subside and Allison helped her mom load the luggage into the car. She hugged and kissed her mom good-bye, and retired into the house.

THE NEXT MORNING

Allison got up and awaited her mothers call, but it never came. So she went to school, Rick, had already gone to his new job at a diner so she walked. She arrived home before Rick and she went to do her homework, she was at the bottom of the stairs when she heard the phone ring. She raced to the phone *MOM* she thought. She put the receiver to her ear and greeted the caller on the other end.

"HI MOM!" she said bursting with excitement. But it wasn't her mom on the other end. "Hello, Is this Allison Jerret?" said the lady on the other end "yes"

"My name is Alicia Kurtz and I am very sorry to tell you that flight 186 has crashed over Kansas."
