Chapter Three
As Jean ran a few tests on Logan, she had really weird feeling. She felt as though something about him was horribly different. After pondering for a bit, she decided that even though his skeleton was indestructible she'd take a few X-rays anyway. When the results came in, she was completely flabbergasted.
"Oh my God! B-but it's impossible... I thought." Jean said to herself as she walked backwards out of pure fear. She stared at Logan's motionless body; 'he looks so peaceful, so innocent.' She thought. Finally she ran into a shelf behind her and almost knocked everything to the ground. She leaped away from the shelf, like a cat at the sound of a vacuum cleaner. Instantly, she called in Scott and Storm saying it was an emergency.
"Scott, Storm I need you in the Med. Lab right away. It's an emergency." She yelled through the P.A. system. Not even thinking to telepathically tell them. All the students wonder what was wrong and so did the two teachers. "I hope she's okay." Scott said to Storm.
"Ya. Me too, Scott."
They ran through the halls and finally came to the Med. Lab. Scott burst through the doors with Storm right behind him. A horrified Jean stood in astonishment. Her two friends raced to her sides. She showed them the results to her tests.
"Holy shit!" the two said in unison.
.
"This is so good, it's like treasure but better." Rogue sat on the bike so amazed at what she had found. In the glove compartment there was who would have guessed a pair of gloves. Leave it to Scott to make the stupidest joke ever. There was some money too. 'That will come in handy.' She thought to herself. But best of all...A few letters with no name on it 'Probably Scott's old love letters he never sent.'
Rogue figured she'd stop for some breakfast, she was getting really hungry. She had gotten up so early in fear of the thunderstorm and hadn't eaten anything. Then she thought that she would read the letters. Before starting up the bike again she decided to switch gloves. The ones there didn't look as questionable as hers. She also took a piece of rope and tied her hair back.
As she went to the gloves on she felt something in the bottom. It was a box. A nice velvety box. She pulled it out and it looked just like the box Jean's engagement ring had come in. Rogue couldn't let curiosity get the best of her so she threw the ring back in the glove compartment and neatly set her gloves in there.
She pulled out a pair of sunglasses, then locked it up. She slipped on her well Scott's gloves. Then just as she was about to move a guy with his two friends drove along beside her in their silver Porsche that shined in the morning light.
"Need some help babe?" asked the guy in the passenger seat, his big blond hair flowing in the wind along with his big blond ego.
"No thank you." Rogue tried to be as polite as possible. Then swiftly putting in and turning the keys, she drove off leaving the three guys in the dust from the old gravel roads. Rogue had decided that since this was her first time on a motorcycle, that she would take the back roads. 'Better scenery anyway.' She thought.
The sun was beginning to rise in the distance. Rogue turned into the parking lot of a small franchise called Floyd's diner. The young girl, not sure of how to park, just copied the other bikers. While trying not to reveal her clueless instincts. A she walked to the diner, a young biker lady come to talk to Rogue.
"Whasa prette garl lak yall doin' ridin a baik lak thet?" The young biker asked.
"Well... uh... you see, I go to this school and well long story short, I'm runnin." Rogue replied.
"Ah see. Hey why don't chyall com in an all by yall a drank!" The lady smiled. Her teeth were a bit rugged but she was pretty just the same. Her auburn hair hung down half way between her waist and her shoulders. It seemed to have been bleached a bit by the sun. Her green eyes shone like dark emeralds. She was rather short a bit smaller than Rogue herself.
"Sa what da yall say?"
Rogue thought for a moment. The lady seemed so sincere but she had heard so many stories about stuff like this. But she decided to go against everything she had been taught and trusted the woman. The woman stuck out her hand.
"Ha! Am Jewel."
"I'm Rogue." She said and shook her hand. The two women entered the diner. As they went to sit down, they heard a voice from behind them at the other end of the place.
"Hey Jewel! Who's the little lady?" The voice came from an older man probably in his early 40's.
"Jus ignar im." Jewel said, Rogue just nodded and the look on her face made her new biker friend start laughing.
"The lok on yalls face_" she laughed some more before continuing. "It loked like yall swallowed a lime peel whol'" As Jewel went off to the bathroom to stop her little laughing fit the waitress came over. Rogue told her they weren't ready to order yet and just as Becky the waitress was walking away, the boys Rogue ran into earlier barged in. She tried to cover her face, but they spotted her too soon.
"Aha." Began the blond. "I thought we'd find you here."
Jewel was just coming out of the bathroom and only watched what was going on.
"Come on girl let's go for a 'ride.'" The boys laughed well a little oriental guy pulled her up by her left hand. Suddenly her glove slipped off and she fell back into the seat. Rogue feared for herself and what may happen to someone else.
"Give me back my glove!" She demanded as she stood up. Out of nowhere, the brunette who had been driving took her in his arms and gave her what was supposed to be an enchanting, wonderful kiss. But his idea turned on him. Rogue's powers activated and she struggled to get free. Finally she did and his limp body fell to the ground. Outside of the bathroom Jewel still stood. 'Wow and all I wanted was a bagel' she thought
Terrified Rogue wasn't sure what to do. When she suddenly felt cold metal against her throat. She looked down and saw a gun being pointed at her. 'I've seen this before.' She thought.
"Leave her alon, she didn do no_" Jewel was cut short by a bullet in her chest. Rogue felt horrible about it, but she took the chance and ran. Out of the diner and on to the bike. Then off she rode at full speed. "Woo! That was close." She began to say. "Note to self: never use your powers in a diner. You may not be so lucky. Oh that..." She trailed off eventually just mumbling to herself.
