-I don't own Inu Yasha or the characters (however much I hoped I did) and
all that good stuff. It's pretty funny, this whole thing was a dream, so
excuse the weirdness of it. Enjoy!
.:The Beginning of the End:.
Kagome walked numbly though the woods, with the dead kitsune in her arms. She wondered how things could have changed so quickly. It was a normal day, they were tracking Naraku, with no real hope of finding him. But that was exactly what happened.
Oceans apart day after day
And I slowly go insane
I hear your voice on the line
But it doesn't stop the pain
***
Naraku had gathered almost all of the jewel shards and had come for the last few pieces that Kagome and the others had managed to find. During the battle, Inu Yasha had done most of the fighting, but Shippou became caught in an attack that was meant for Kagome and was instantly killed. Naraku had cornered Kagome and managed to paralyze her. Inu Yasha and the other were too wounded to help, so they were forced to watch in horror as Naraku ripped the jewel shards from around Kagome's neck. He paused to stroke a finger across her jaw, before turning away.
He had gained incredible power even without the new shards, and many new abilities. He put a curse on Inu Yasha that would cause him to be killed the next time he became human, but if he was killed before that, he would roam the earth as a lost soul to watch the deaths of his loved ones, namely Kagome, for the rest of eternity. Naraku had left them as quickly has he had appeared, saying that he would much rather watch Inu Yasha die slowly than to end his misery now.
***
Kagome hadn't even noticed that the woods had become suddenly dark and eerie. Something wasn't right, she could feel it. Her eyes strayed to Inu Yasha, who had stopped moving and placed his hand on Tessaiga's hilt. They had walked into a small clearing lit only by the waning sun. There was a presence in the air that just wasn't right.
A shriek caught Kagome's attention, wrenching her from memories of the past, but before she could turn, Inu Yasha dove at her, dragging her to the ground. Seconds later Hiraikotsu, Sango's giant boomerang went sailing inches above Kagome and Inu Yasha's head. Kagome peeked over Inu Yasha's shoulder. Terror gripped her heart.
If I see you next to never
How can we say forever
"It's all your fault Shippou's dead!!" Miroku yelled, charging at Sango. His eyes were strangely blank and he wasn't moving as gracefully as normal.
"Please! Miroku, don't!" cried Sango, dodging Miroku. She used her sword to block Miroku's violent attacks, but made no effort to strike him. Inu Yasha left Kagome and rushed at Miroku, his claws ready to kill.
With strength that wasn't his, Miroku threw his staff at Inu Yasha; it pierced clean though his lower chest, splattering blood onto the field. Kagome screamed and rushed to his side.
Wherever you go
Whatever you do
I will be right here waiting for you
Miroku had wrestled Sango's sword from her grasp and Hiraikotsu lay forgotten in the brush. Sango backed away from Miroku, her eyes large with fear. "Miroku! Please! I'm sorry!" pleaded Sango, tears welling in her eyes. She couldn't force herself to harm him, even it if meant losing her life.
"It's all your fault!!!" Miroku screamed in Sango's face. The thrust the sword into her chest, it punctured her heart. Her eyes opened wide in shock at the impact, her hands slowly wrapped around the sword hilt in her chest. Dark, warm blood poured over her trembling hands. Her eyes found Kagome with a painful glance before she fell motionless to the ground.
Whatever it takes
Or how my heart breaks
I will be right here waiting for you
"SANGO!" screamed Kagome, emotions welling in her chest. The large tree nearby glowed a fiery orange as the sun began to set.
"Miroku--" whispered Inu Yasha, as he pulled the hoshi's staff from his stomach.
Kagome stood there, stock still, thinking. Something isn't right. Something is wrong here. What's going on?! She thought frantically, her eyes glued on Miroku. Maybe...maybe he's...possessed or something. She thought hard of why he would be possessed. He would be cursed because...INU YASHA! Inu Yasha's curse! That was it! Tonight is the one night a month that Inu Yasha turns human, and because of the curse when night fell, he would die. But he can't die fighting Miroku, he just can't. Her mind began to run in circles.
"Inu Yasha! Don't!" Kagome yelled.
Inu Yasha pulled himself off the ground with a groan, his bangs covering his golden eyes.
"He...killed...SANGO!" gasped Inu Yasha, leaning heavily on a Tessaiga.
I took for granted, all the times
That I thought would last somehow
I hear the laughter, I taste the tears
But I can't get near you now
"He's possessed, he doesn't know what he's doing!" Kagome moved toward Inu Yasha.
"Stay...away..." Inu Yasha grunted at Kagome.
"You can't die!" yelled Kagome, becoming angry and tears beginning to well in her eyes.
"I'm not going to die, stupid! So quit your crying and get out of here!" He glanced over his shoulder at her. "NOW!"
Inu Yasha lunged at Miroku, the two tumbled to the ground. Miroku had incredible strength and speed that Inu Yasha was no match for.
Kagome began to cry. She would have to kill him herself. It's the only way she moaned silently. She readied her bow and notched an arrow, her whole body trembling.
"Kagome!" I told you to leave!" Inu Yasha yelled angrily.
The stars were beginning to shine in the sky. Kagome willed her hand to stop shaking, for if she hit Inu Yasha, he would be worse off.
Inu Yasha was thrown to the side, giving Kagome the clear shot she needed.
"Miroku...forgive me." Whispered Kagome, choking back tears. She closed her eyes, tears streaming down her cheeks, opened them again in determination, and fired the arrow. It caught Miroku square in the heart, ripping the soul from his body. An agonizing scream echoed through the woods. Miroku's motionless body hung from the arrow which pinned him to a nearby tree. It soon faded and became nothing but mist. Kagome swore she saw a human figure stand between Miroku and the tree before the arrow hit, but her head was clouded and it hurt to think. Kagome dropped her bow, it made a hallow sound as it hit a rock. The wind began to pick up and a hum filled the air. Naraku's insects blotted out the sun.
Oh, can't you see it baby
You've got me goin' crazy
"Inu Yasha..." murmured Kagome. She dodged around a tree to find him prey to the poisonous insects. Inu Yasha weakly swatted at the bees that covered his body, tearing though his clothing. . Blood seeped all around him; his hair was now dyed red at the tips. He soon stopped fighting. Kagome ran to him, throwing herself over his crumpled body.
"Inu Yasha, hold on. Stay with me." whispered Kagome. The bees tore at Kagome's back, shredding her school uniform.
Wherever you go
Whatever you do
I will be right here waiting for you
I just have to last until nightfall thought Kagome, gritting her teeth against the pain. Blood began to drip down her back and puddle on the ground.
Inu Yasha looked up at her weakly. "..Ka-gome...don't...do this...I'd rather...live a thousand lives...alone than...have you...die like...this.."
Whatever it takes
Or how my heart breaks
I will be right here waiting for you
Kagome's voice caught in her throat as she looked into his golden eyes. A spasm of pain rippled though her body, causing her to clench her teeth, and stifle the scream that longed to escape. The poison began to pulse though her body, the insects still tearing at her skin. Warm blood seeped into Kagome's eyes as Inu Yasha's began to close.
I wonder how we can survive
This romance
But in the end if I'm with you
I'll take the chance
"NO! Inu Yasha! Stay with me...only a little while longer..." cried Kagome, brushing the hair from Inu Yasha's face. His eyes opened a crack, at the sound of her voice, they were now clouded with pain. With relief, Kagome saw Inu Yasha's hair darkening. Inu Yasha smiled a genuine smile at Kagome, his eyes a liquid brown now. Sorrow clenched her heart, as she thought that this would be her last memory, last time she could ever see him. His body faded from under her and she began to sob, clutching the bloody grass where Inu Yasha had lain only seconds before.
Kagome noticed a shimmer of light on the edge of the clearing. A shining figure, which resembled Sango, stood before her, smiling. Kagome could no longer feel the insects ripping at her, nor hear the triumphant laugh that echoed though the forest. Her face, almost black with blood and except for two trails of tears that wouldn't stop flowing, turned toward Sango.
Sango motioned to the bow and arrows lying near Kagome. Dimly, she understood. She tried to rise but the poison had started to paralyze her body so she was forced to crawl numbly towards the bow, using all her strength. When her fingers finally clasped around the handle, she fumbled for her last arrow. Finally, Kagome pointed the arrow at Sango, eager to be rid of the pain that was pulsing back through her body. She closed her eyes and relaxed.
Kagome released the arrow, which sailed though the vision of Sango, carrying the golden orb of her soul. The bow fell from her bloodied hands and her lifeless body crumpled to the ground where it was soon consumed by the poisonous insects. A triumphant laugh echoed though the forest as the moon winked from the horizon.
Oh, can't you see it baby
You've got me goin' crazy
*** Kagome awoke in a place that was so white she had to close her eyes again. When she opened them again, she realized there was nothing but white in every direction. There was no scenery, no landscape, nothing. Her feet began to move her through this land of nothing. She noticed that she was walking on a white floor in a white room with a white ceiling and white walls. She could think of nothing else, her feet carried her though this place. *** Inu Yasha grumbed to himself, looking for a bar. He wanted some brandy. Oh how he needed some right about now. He wandered through the white until he came to a sign that read plainly, "None Today"
He slouched down against a white wall grumbling to himself.
*** Kagome stopped, her heart caught in her throat. Before her, Shippou lay curled against his father. She saw that the kitsune's father was breathing softly. The expression on his face was pure ecstasy. Kagome didn't wonder at all where she was. Somehow she just couldn't. She could only keep walking.
She soon came across Miroku and Sango. Miroku sat cross-legged on the white floor, holding Sango in his arms. Sango nestled against his body with tears streaming down her face. Miroku stroked her hair, wrapped his arms around her, and rocked slowly.
"Oh, Sango" Miroku whispered, choking on the words. "I'm so sorry..." Tears were now beginning to creep down his cheeks.
Sango nodded silently, unable to speak.
"I'm so sorry." Miroku closed his eyes. "I love you, Sango"
Wherever you go
Whatever you do
I will be right here waiting for you
Tears crept into Kagome's eyes, grief clenching her chest. Her feet moved her onward.
She a sign in the middle of the white, and as she looked around, she could see nothing else. Sango, Miroku, Shippou, they'd all disappeared. The sign read "Over there"
Kagome obediently followed the sign, still unable to think properly. She could only feel emotion. All the emotions. When Kagome turned she saw Inu Yasha slouched against a white wall. Somehow it didn't seem strange that she hadn't seen him there before. She knelt in front of him, but he didn't even look up to acknowledge her.
"Inu Yasha?" Kagome said, trying to get his attention. He still looked blankly at the floor, muttering under his breath. Emotions began to swell way too fast and there were way to many of them inside of her. Anger over rode the others.
"Hey! I'm talking to you" She glared at him.
"You shouldn't be here. Why did you come?" She asked in the same tone as his mutterings, still staring at the white floor.
"It doesn't matter." Said Kagome. "It's over now...now...we're here...both of us..."
"It's my fault. All my fault." murmured Inu Yasha.
Kagome was flustered. "I told you, none of that matters now!"
"You should never have gone though the well. It's all my fault. All my fault." Inu Yasha rambled on "Where's the brandy? Why isn't there any brandy?"
Kagome grabbed the two lochs of hair that hung along side Inu Yasha's face and pulled him toward her. She closed her eyes, feeling his lips touch hers.
None of that matters now she said to him silently.
Whatever it takes
