It was well over a month since Marissa had slept with Luke as she stood
anxiously in the bathroom waiting for the little stick to turn blue or pink
or whatever colour that would not ruin her life. How could such a small
thing determine the rest of her life. These last few weeks had been like
hell, lying to Ryan, trying to avoid Luke and having to face the fact that
she could be pregnant. The worst thing was that even if she was pregnant
Ryan mightn't even be the father.
She snapped out of the daydream by the screaming of the alarm clock that
told her her time was up. All alone in her dad's she peered over the tub
where is had hidden the "stick of doom" as she had fondly nicknamed it.
"Shit" was all she could muster.
Marissa didn't know how long it had been from the moment she discovered
she was pregnant till she heard the knock at the door. She face was stained
with tears and she knew she wasn't fit to face anyone right now just after
her world had fallen apart.
The banging on the door became more violent. "Marissa I know your in there
open up" it was her mother.
"What do you want?" she called as she stumbled out of the bathroom. It took
her a moment to regain her balance and to try and clear the pain filled
tears for her eyes.
"I just wanted to know if you knew where my black satin dress is as I have
an important gala tonight?"
"No."
"This is ridicules, why won't you let me in?" Marissa new there was no use
in fight with her mother was she was too tired from crying and it would
just be easier to let her in. "Well it's about time." scoffed Julia as she
headed to the bathroom. Marissa was to out of it to realize what was about
to take place. She only came to her senses when she heard an almighty
scream from the bathroom.
"WHAT THE HELL! That bastered, that bastered! Wait till I get my hands on
him, I'm going to kill him." This was the maddest Marissa had ever seen her
mother. Her arms were flying up and down in the air her face had gone
completely red and she was heading for the door.
"Where are you going?" Marissa cried, trying hard to hold it all together.
"I'm going to make him pay for what he's done, for ruining my daughters
life. How could you and Ryan be so stupid? You have to get rid of it."
she spat out in disgust.
"It's not Ryan." Marissa blurted out. She didn't know where it had come
from or why it had come out but it had. "It's Luke's" she didn't even know
if this was true but she was desperate to try anything to save Ryan from the
wrath of her mother.
This last comment seemed to stop Julia in her tracks. "I'll ring DR Sellers
and see what the quickest appointment I can get is." at this Marissa broke
down. All she wanted now was for her mother to hold her and tell her
everything was going to be ok but instead she was standing over her in the
coldhearted way Marissa was now used to. At this moment Marissa had never
felt more alone in her life.
Not having the energy to fight with her mother, Marissa was now at her
mother's house. As Jimmy was out of town it seemed she had no choice in
the matter anyway plus Ryan had been leaving her messages all day telling
her how much he missed her and wanted to see her. She guessed he knew that
somthing was up. He must have seen her get out of the car because she was
not at her mother's five minuets when he was over. She overheard her mother
talking to him at the door and to Marissa's suprise she invited him in.
"The rains comin' down pretty hard out there now eh? Shes just through
here." Marissa was starting to get worried and the second she saw her face
she knew what her mother's plans were.
"I tried callin but I couldn't get an answer. What's up?" Ryan sat opposite
Marissa and was supprised to find Juila sitting down next to him.
"Marissa hasn't been feeling to well these part few days, have you
Marissa?" her mother turn from Ryan to her daughter.
Marissa could do nothing but sit there in horror as she watched her mother
distroy her happyness.
Juila looked back to Ryan. "She's been sick for the past few week actualy,
I'm suprised you haven't noticed?" Ryan's eyes stared deeply into Marissa's
as he began to grasp what Juila was getting at. "She'll be sick for a few
months yet. I'd say about 9."
Ryan froze. What worried him most wasn't the fact that he had just gotten
Marissa pregnant but why was Juila being so cool about this. He knew he
should have brought flowers.
"I had no idea I..." but Ryan was cut off by the smug voice of Juila.
"Oh don't worry about it Ryan it not like the baby's yours. You Know
Luke right?"
In one single moment Ryan's whole world had fallen apart. How could Marissa
do this to him? How could she lie to him? How did this happen?
"Is it ture?" he spat, tears filling up in his eyes.
Marissa could only nod now as the pain got to much.
"Everthing?" again a single nod to drive the dagger even further into
Ryan's back. With this he stormed out of the room.
"Wait" was all Marissa could muster as she leaped up off the chair to
follow him.
Juila grabed her arm."Don't waste you time sweetie."
"Get the hell away from me. What kind of mother are you?" and with this
Marissa took off after Ryan into the wet night.
