Author's Note: This is a short chapter, I know. But its 1 AM and that's all
I felt like writing for now. It's an update at least. I'm telling you guys!
I'm on a SERIOUS writer's block in this story. It's slowly coming to me but
just barely. I finished reading the book today for the first time to have a
better understanding of the story. Look forward to more updates, okay? Now.
on with the new chapter!

"How'd you get in here without Mr. Sir finding out?!" Caveman demanded.
Logan smiled nervously. "Long story."
Zigzag looked from her over to Bailey, and looked him up and down. "Are you a girl too, Bailey?"
Offended, Bailey glared at him. "No, I'm not!"
Caveman rolled his eyes. "Zigzag, be serious..."
Shrugging and smiling to himself Zigzag turned his attention back to Logan. The girl put her hat back on and climbed out of the hole, brushing the dirt off her jumpsuit. All the other boys backed up from her, looking either puzzled or betrayed. Logan looked sheepishly at the ground, unable to say anything for once. It was already sunrise and on her first day, the D Tent boys knew she was a girl.
The silence was suddenly broken when the sound of a truck driving towards them was heard. It was the water truck. Everyone, even Logan, grabbed their shovels and went back to digging their holes. Hopefully their slacking off was not noticed.
When the truck came to a stop, a trail of dust went drifting past them. The tires had kicked it up when the truck was driving towards their digging site. Instead of Mr. Sir, whom Logan had feared had come, it was a different man. He was considerably younger than Mr. Sir and looked half as scary. The top of his head was shaved so close that he was nearly bald, but his face was covered in a curly, black beard. To Logan, he reminded her of Long John Silver.
Logan watched as the boys climbed out of their holes and went over to the truck with their plastic jugs. She wondered if she should do the same. Well, she'd rather not go thirsty. Pulling herself out of her hole, Logan walked over to where the other boys stood. She gripped her water jug, as it was her turn to get her refill of water. The man who had been driving the truck stopped and tilted his head. "I don't believe I've seen you around."
"Just came in yesterday. Who're you?"
The man began to fill up her jug. "I'm your counselor, Mr. Pendanski."
Logan looked skeptical that this man could actually be a counselor. "So, where've you been since I came in?"
"Taking care of another kid." He replied, handing her the jug. "Rattlesnake bite. The Warden wanted him back on his feet to dig right away."
"Great." Logan replied and started to walk back to her hole. To her surprise, none of the boys said a word about her secret.
She picked up her shovel and began to dig again, finding that once you got past the surface, it was a bit easier. These were the times she wished she was wearing those gardening gloves her mom had lying around the backyard all the time. Her hands had begun to blister slightly but not much. This was because her palms had been burned and beat up before by working on cars. It wasn't too much of a big deal. However, digging was a bigger deal than she had expected.
The worst thing was that she was the last one out on the lake. All the other boys had left her and never even gave her a second glance. Her hole was nearly finished but all she could think about was what was going to happen when she returned to the camp. What if they told Mr. Sir? Or even worse. the Warden? Well, she didn't know what the Warden was like here. Logan hadn't heard much about him much less seen him. She kept imagining all sorts of torture that she'd have to endure for lying to everyone. Then it suddenly occurred to her. What COULD they do to her? It was their mistake for thinking she was a boy. Mr. Sir should have gone over her records a bit more closely. Logan started to laugh to herself and noticed that her hole was now five feet wide and five feet deep. It looked just like every other hole, considering the size.
Logan wasn't proud that she had dug a hole. She was proud that she endured the heat, even if she was getting sick from it.
