Scroll 3: Prophecy

A pair of crimson eyes reached out from the depths of the opposing forest where Sesshomaru had derived from. Kagura had sent in such a wind beforehand to cloak her scent from the ignorant hanyou, but the old acquaintance of her master beat her to the chase. Deciding she could use the entertainment, she relaxed, analyzing the situation with a queer eye. Why did the demon lord not attack his enemies? The wind then carried the words of Sesshomaru to Kagura's ears, and suddenly she grew hungry for more speech from the attractive youkai. ____________________________________________________________________________ _________________________________

Inu Yasha noticed the surprise in Kagome's expression. Either the news had been a shock or...was that FEAR he smelled? Yes, it was...stress was radiating from his half-brother. Taking a bold step forward, the canine lad found his curious appetite betraying him. "What do you mean, Sesshomaru? What's this all about, eh? Is this some sort of trap...?" Inu Yasha was marveled when he watched his brother disagree to the inquiration. "No, this is quite real," he replied, voice so damn calm and betraying his inner emotions. Now Kagome had gathered enough courage to question their intruding enemy further. "Why...did you come here?"

Sesshomaru looked at the couple a bit vaguely, as if searching distant memories that had surpassed him at the moment. "I came...to warn you. And to ask you for your help..." As those words smoothly rolled off his tongue, every word...no, every LETTER seemed to drive a coldness within him. How he wished there was some other way to go about this mission, but as he had concluded, there was no other solution then to shorten his pride and ask for assistance in his hunt. Kagome and Inu Yasha exchanged glances, mentally asking each other if Sesshomaru was flat-out lying to their faces or being sincere and telling the truth. Inu Yasha was still unconvinced, deciding to probe further into the matter. The pair broke their hold on each other's gaze and glared right back at the enemy who was claiming peace. "Oh yeah? What for? What is it that you can't handle, Sesshomaru?"

The youkai lord sighed, and closed his eyes as if it were to help him remember something from long ago. "Due to your release of the slumber which was to last you an eternity and more, Inu Yasha, a new demon is to awaken and gain the power of the Shikon no Tama. A demon...said to be more powerful than any other in existence. What's more, the demon does not even know of their own power. It could very well be any one of full youkai blood. My apologies that filthy half-breeds are not permitted to have such magnificent power...."

The hanyou snarled viciously, ready to tear out his youkai kin's throat. "Insulting me is no way to ask for help! What do you need us to do in the first place?!"

Sesshomaru continued after the outburst from the mangy mutt before him. "As I have said, the demon has not been fully awakened and has not received such power. And it could be any one, even myself. Though, of course, there is a way to tell...which is why I will need your assistance. You and your whore..."

Inu Yasha once more tightened his grip on Tetsusaiga, wanting nothing more than to pummel the damn calm devil before him. How dare he insult Kagome?! "WHAT DID I SAY ABOUT...?!" Kagome had interrupted her canine companion. "Continue..." "WHAT?!"

"Very well, then. Now where was I before such a rude interruption...? Ah...yes. Carrying on, there is a scroll that tells of who the magnificent demon is. The trouble that is most annoying, however, is the fact it is written in a spiritual text. Only a miko can read it..."

Kagome blinked, quite surprised. Now she knew why Sesshomaru needed their help...well, actually, hers. Still, why this approach? Why the fear? Then she realized the reason...ANY demon could awaken with new powers. That included Naraku. No wonder he was stricken with fear! Naraku was formidable enough, but if he gained even more power...Kagome shuddered, just imagining a super-powered fiend like him gaining such gifts. Then a thought struck her. "Wait! If mikos can only read it, how come you know about what it says?"

"I was told by the witch I killed who had it among her possessions. I was told of a prophecy there that could have been mine, but it seems it could very well be any ones...Will you help me decipher it?" Kagome nodded, and was offered a scroll by the youkai that was very old and musty. She was very reluctant to take it. After all, Sesshomaru always pulled such dirty tricks. But this...somehow it all seemed real. Taking the scroll from Sesshomaru and unrolling it, she noticed something very peculiar: the scroll was blank...

Suddenly, as Kagome puzzled over the emptiness before her, something happened. Her mind had been dragged in to what seemed to be a perpetual brightness which overtook her surroundings. Everything was empty now...except for the eternal white which enveloped her. Kagome was in trauma as she seemed to drift in the alabaster void, winds from long ago whispering to her.

And the winds whispered in her ear a single name: wind chaser... ____________________________________________________________________________ ________________________________

Kagome awoke in the softness of someone's arms. Strong, gentle arms, cradling her it seemed. What heaven it was to be held in such a caring way. Again, she heard the wind whisper softly to her. "Kagome...!" Such an odd, sweet...demanding voice? "Kagome, wake up!" Fluttering her eyes open, she looked into the beautiful dark amber of Inu Yasha's eyes. She awoke in his grasp, confusion enveloping her tighter than his hold on her. "Wh..what happened?"

Inu Yasha looked somewhat relieved to see her all right. Wait...relieved?! Had he truly been worried for her? "You...you fainted and then started to mumble about someone called 'wind chaser'. Sesshomaru took off after you stopped talking like a fool...what happened to you?" Kagome, for some reason, felt like crying. Everything hurt, for some reason..."I...don't know..." Shippo had hopped in on them while they were in that more than comfortable position.

"Geesh! If you wanted to be alone with her, all you had to do was say so!" "SHIPPO!!!!!!!!!!"

Scroll 4: Alliance
Sesshomaru halted in his tracks, the scent of Naraku intoxicating him. Turning around, he glared into the forest he had all ready left behind, narrowing his eyes upon the depths of the shadows within. "Show yourself!" Brow raised somewhat delicately as the familiar she-devil revealed herself. Kagura held her gaze tauntingly on the youkai lord's features, smirking. "I'm surprised you did not kill the two when the minx became weak and your brother vulnerable for her. Have something planned, do you?"

"That really is none of your concern...now, I suppose you know of the prophecy?" Kagura nodded. "I may heard a mention of it...the wind tells me so many secrets..." Sesshomaru stepped closer to the implanted demoness, until he was fully in front of her. "Then I have no choice, but to destroy you..." The youkai sheathed his talons...

"But I can help you..."

...only to return them once more. Curiously, he created a link between them through their gaze. Hers was the delicious color of blood, he noticed. "How can you help me, wench?" Kagura gave him a damned smiled that would make any male want to eat her alive. Though this one seemed reluctant to do so. "I know Naraku could be the one the prophecy foretells...and I want him dead before the power will ever awaken within him. So I have a pact to make with you...ah...Sesshomaru, was it not?"

The lord nodded to the witch, answering her question silently. This was beginning to get interesting. "Well then, Sesshomaru, the terms of our alliance are simple enough: I secretly pledge my services to you, while you discard my master Naraku. I can easily get rid of Inu Yasha and his pet humans. If you say you want their heads on a silver platter, consider it done...So, what do you say?"

Sesshomaru dipped his head slightly, in accord with Kagura.

"I say...you have yourself an alliance, my dear..."

OOC: Whee!!! Guess we can all see where those two are heading!! Well, 'four', actually, since just about everyone pairs up in here. I'm also doing one unexpected pairing that I KNOW many dare not put the test! BUT I AM! No, not a Shippo/Kaede crap thingy I once read...damn, that was scary! 0.0; Ohh, the story wasn't on FF.net, so if you DID write a story like that, it's not yours! This one was in particular very...odd...no lime though! *snaps fingers disappointedly* Heheh, I'm such a freak ^^;

Well, you guys know the drill! You review, and I write! *sigh* Such a demanding job, ain't it? 'Til my next work of art, TTFN, don't drive drunk, and say no to sweet and low! ('less you wanna turn out like me...)
