Scroll 10: Scars Never Heal

It has been a few days since the departure from Kouga. When the companions stopped to set up camp for the night, Kagome and Sango went to bathe (and this time Shippo was told NOT to join) in a spring. The miko had noted the demon huntress was not at her best attitude, a sad look haunting her usually deep and determined gaze. She hated to see her friend in such a mood, so she decided to figure out just what was bothering her.

"Um...Sango?" "Yes?" Kagome looked into the crystal void of the water, somewhat thoughtful of how to tell her companion she looked absolutely miserable. "Is something...troubling you? You don't seem to be yourself today..." A silence loomed over them before Sango answered the question. "It's nothing. It's just that...today is...Kohaku's birthday..."

Kagome looked at Sango, surprised. She shouldn't have asked...Sango was very fond of her sibling who Naraku now orders to hunt them. He should be dead, but a shard of the Shikon jewel has sustained his life. Unfortunately, Naraku had made him into his little puppet to manipulate as he wished. "I'm sorry..."

Sango gave a false smile, shaking her head slightly. "Don't be. I appreciate the concern, though." After cleansed of unwanted particles lingering on their skin for the past couple of days, the ladies returned to camp and rested by the fire. Kilala seemed to recognize her partner's distress, because she was even more affectionate then usual. Sango cuddled the one demon out of two she would never hurt (Shippo is the other. Inu Yasha doesn't count, since he was but a hanyou). Miroku perched himself next to Kagome, and the miko was impressed he did not try to move his hands to places where they weren't wanted. "Is she all right?" Kagome nodded, whispering. "It's Kohaku's birthday, she just misses him so much..."

Miroku nodded, watching as Shippo performed magic tricks while Inu Yasha commented how none of the stunts would be good use in a battle. To prove the older male wrong, the young kitsune produce a spark of light in front of his eyes. "DAMN, SHIPPO, ARE YOU TRYING TO BLIND ME?!" Sango giggled slightly and Shippo decided best to apologize, though it was in a I- told-you-so manner. "Sorry, Inu Yasha, I was only trying to make a point..." "OF WHAT?! THE BEST WAY TO BLIND SOMEONE?!"

Kagome sighed and suddenly perked up. She was suddenly wary of a hand massaging her rump...

Kagura was awaiting recognition from her master, though it was not like he often gave her anyway. Naraku stepped in to her quarters, which was nothing but a barren room with a matt to sleep on. The palace life wasn't glamorous for her. A single candle flickered in the darkness, casting a design of shadows throughout the room. "Yes?"

Naraku spoke while observing the miniature dancing flame, as if hypnotized. "For now, I have someone else handling them. Oh, and Kagura?" The witch held her breath before responding. "...yes?"

A cold stare set on the demoness, malice intent in his glare and facial structure. "The next time you come to my domain with the stench of Sesshomaru around you, I will kill you..." The youkai lord left without saying a word, abandoning his servant with her thoughts.

Scroll 11: Cherry Blossom Romance

How beautiful, Sango thought, cupping a cherry blossom in her hands. It was the middle of the night, yet she couldn't sleep. She couldn't stop thinking about her brother, and what became of him...and how she failed to stop it from happening...A crystal tear gently caressed the delicate petals, a tender wind whistling through and sending a shower of petals on to the earth. The demon huntress was so lost in thought she did not realize company had come to comfort her.

Miroku sat next to Sango, observing her beautiful face in such a state of misery. It made him miserable as well...At this point, he would give anything to see her truly smile. "Sango? Are you all right?" The girl just shook her head, more tears flowing from her eyes. "I...can't stop...thinking...about him. Houshi-sama..." She sobbed, a sound the monk did not want to hear. He hated to see females cry. It was disturbing...

Laying his staff on the emerald blades carpeting the territory, his arms were free to wrap around her. Miroku held Sango tight, a platonic and comforting gesture. Her head rested on his chest while his nose was dipped into her luscious ebony hair. It smelled so good to him, so soft...Taking in a deep breath to savor the scent, he softly whispered to her. "It will be all right..."

Sango pulled away, face streaked with salty liquid. Absently the monk began to brush away her tears. After a few strokes against her soft skin, her hand grasped his and tenderly she rested his hand on her cheek. For a while they just looked at each other, into the voids of the other's gaze. Miroku lowered his head a bit, Sango dipping her own back slightly. At the moment their noses touched, both closed their eyes and allowed their lips to meet.

Miroku's mouth was the one which captured her own, but she responded just as equally, the two engulfing each other in a sweet passion. The monk found his hands entwined in his companions hair, pulling her in deeper to the kiss, and Sango had wrapped her arms around his neck and was pulling him closer. It seemed they had melded together and formed a heaven all their own, their tongues dancing with each other. One of Miroku's hands had sneaked into her skirt and then...

A scream was heard from their original camp site. The spell was broken and the two released from each other, though still somewhat entangled in each other's arms. The pair quickly got to their feet and headed for their other companions to see what the trouble was. But once they got their, Sango recognized right away what had caused her companions to fret.

"KOHAKU?!"

Scroll 12: Family Feud

Kohaku held Shippo in his grasp, a kunai to the young kitsune's throat. Kilala was mewing uncertainly, not sure what to do. After all, she liked both boys, but now one was not in his right mind and would kill the other. Kagome had an arror ready, though her bow was lowered. Inu Yasha growled, not liking the situation. Upon the pair's arrival, he snarled furiously at the two. "Look who finally showed up!"

Kagome glanced at her friends, noticing Miroku and Sango were slightly disheveled. Looks like Miroku went to comfort her..., she thought. Males...Focusing on the situation at hand, she glanced at Sango and nodded to her.

The demon hunter stepped closer to her kin, reaching out to him and speaking softly. "Kohaku, it's me. Why are you doing this?" There was no response, just a glare from cold and dead eyes that were once confident and full of life. "Please, Kohaku, put him down..."

Suddenly Kohaku tossed Shippo to Inu Yasha, then headed at top speed for Kagome, kunai bared. Kilala caught Shippo in mid-air and the hanyou withdrew Tetsusaiga in haste. "OH NO YOU DON'T!" Slicing through the earth, he created a rift between the miko and former demon hunter. "If you think you're going to succeed that easy..." A chain snaked out at top speed for the mighty fang, yet when Inu Yasha went to strike it, it wrapped around the sword and pulled it from his hands... ____________________________________________________________________________ _________________________________

Sesshomaru watched from a distance, noticing the last tactic of the lad under Naraku's spell.

"This is going to be interesting..." ____________________________________________________________________________ _________________________________

OOC: Miroku and Sango were NOT the secret pairing. C'mon, besides Inu Yasha and Kagome, they're the most used pairing in all of fanficdom! I know for someone who did spot it, you're probally like 'how the hell is that going to work?!' Well, there is a way! It's just that it won't come up for a while. Also, if you did guess, DON'T SPILL THE SECRET!

Also, someone asked me if Kagura is the Wind Chaser. NO, SHE'S NOT! This is why I tell you guys not to guess, because more than likely you'll never get it ^^; She plays a VERY important part though, as does everyone in the story. EVERYONE I PUT IN A CHAPTER WILL HAVE A PURPOSE IN THE FUTURE! Okies, response to my loyal reviews, I love you guys so much! ^__^

Ashely: Well, kinda was, LOL. About half an hour apart ^^; I know I said 'updated every week', but I'm on a role! LOL.*gobbles up muffin* My mummy made me an omelette, so I got plenty of brain food. And yay, so glad you like! Ohh, and he didn't die, just badly hurt.

Amaemille: Ok, time to clear this up for you, sweetie: Kouga has met Naraku before, but indirectly knows Kagura. I have good memmory, so I kept those episodes in mind when I wrote this.

Note to All: THIS IS BASED ON THE ANIME AND NOT THE MANGA! Meaning characters will relate to the show more than the manga. And yes, the manga series characters and anime characters act different. Sesshomaru particuliarly.
