The sun beat down on us unmercifully as we ran through the fields. As the lake drew closer I sped up. I could hear Pippin's footsteps resounding behind me as I dived headfirst into the lake.
The cool water rose up around me as I sunk to the bottom. Then there was an arm around my waist and Pippin was pulling me to the top. MY head broke he surface and I sputtered and coughed up water.
Pippin pulled me to the shore, his arm still around me. When I felt the dry land we both collapsed onto it. I didn't want to move. His arm just felt so warm and protective around me. His finger traced my cheek as he turned my face to look at him. MY skin tingled as his finger touched it.
I looked into his eyes and for the first time appreciated the beautiful shine that emitted from them. I glanced upward when his gaze became to powerful for me. The sky was tinted with pinks and golds, the could fading into the distance. IT was the most beautiful sunset I had ever seen.
I turned my eyes back to Pippin to see him gazing at me almost hungrily. Then without thinking Pippin's other arm was around me and we were moving steadily closer. When They finally touched in a passionate kiss I knew that was a moment that I would never forget.
It seemed only an instant when we broke apart but looking around, there was only darkness and I knew we had been there for at least an hour. I got lost gazing into the dark waters, thinking about how wonderful Pippin felt. "Merry, was that wrong?"
His question brought me back to him. We were still lying on the shore of the lake in each other's arms. "No, Pippin. How could something that felt so good be wrong?" The corners of his mouth lifted in the most beautiful smile. "Besides, you tasted like apples and I haven't had one of them all day." I added as an afterthought.
Pippin started giggling and soon I joined in. "Thanks Merry, that makes me feel better about it. But I still don't think we should tell anyone about it."
I thought about it for a minute. "Agreed." I jumped up and extended my hand to him. "Now we better get you home. You're such a young hobbit your mother will be worrying." Laughing, he grabbed my hand and got to his feet. We walked back up the road to his house, hand in hand.
When we reached the door, I leaned in for another kiss when his mother came out. She wasn't very happy. I left feeling just a little lonely in the dark.
