Lizzie McGuire is 27 and living in Canada. At the age of 17 she never thought she'd end up North living in a different country but things happen in life that aren't always expected. 10 years ago Lizzie picked up her life, stuffed it in a small satin purse and left without a word. She didn't know exactly where she was going or what she was doing all she knew was that she needed to leave. She needed to leave everything in her life that became all too familiar. She still remembered the day she left like was yesterday.

Lizzie stood in front of her mirror studying herself in her bright pink prom dress. Her hair was swept up in loose curls and her nails were done with a matching pink colour. She could still remember her middle school graduation and how simple that was. Now she was leaving high school without a goal or direction in mind.

Her senior wasn't the year she wanted it to be. She thought she was going to have the greatest time with her two best friends, Miranda and Gordo. But that didn't happen either because suddenly they were involved in relationships while Lizzie was left out in the rain without an umbrella. She went on a few dates but she couldn't connect with anyone the way she connected with Gordo. She wanted to tell Gordo how much she cared about him but she couldn't ruin the relationship he was already in. He obviously got over her a long time ago so she didn't want to bring back something that would cause pain in his life.

Lizzie heard the doorbell ring and she quickly ran down the stairs. Her parents had let Ethan into the house and they immediately started taking pictures as Lizzie came down the stairs.

"Mom," Lizzie whined, "do you want me to go blind? Stop taking pictures until I get down the stairs!"

"Sorry honey," her mother said. "You look so beautiful and I want you to be able to remember this night for the rest of your life." It was defiantly a night to remember.

"You look amazing Lizzie," Ethan said handing her a white rose corsage.

Lizzie smiled. "Thanks," she said. "You don't look that bad yourself. The white tuxedo is very classic."

Ethan drove his dad's convertible red corvette to the prom. Lizzie placed her pink shall over her head to prevent her hair from flying away. She and Ethan weren't going out and she didn't expect Ethan to ask her to the prom but she was glad he did. She was afraid she'd be going stag. Lizzie had gotten over her crush last year. They were just friends and she was happy she had someone who she could still talk to. They spent most of the prom sipping punch and reminiscing over good times. But most of high school she was with Gordo and Miranda. She looked onto the dance floor and saw Miranda wrap her arms around Danny's neck. They've been going out since Homecoming and they were perfect for each other. She was happy for them but somewhere along the way Miranda forgot that she had a best friend. Danny had replaced Lizzie.

Lizzie noticed Gordo walk into ballroom with Kate hanging on is arm. It was the most unlikely match of the year. It was a complete scandal when Kate dumped Ethan for Gordo. Lizzie couldn't believe it she tried to find out what kind of cruel joke Kate was playing but it turned out that she was really into Gordo.

Lizzie smiled noticing Gordo's blue tux. Typical Gordo to come to prom looking completely different than the rest of the class. She really wanted to talk to him so when she noticed Kate slip away Lizzie walked over to him.

"Hey Gordo," Lizzie said. "I love the blue tux."

"Oh hey Lizzie thanks. It was Kate's idea. You look really nice tonight too. So how's it going?"

"Good. I'm having a great time with Ethan," Lizzie answered. This situation was so awkward. It was casual conversation but she felt as if there was line that separated them and she couldn't cross it.

"That's good. Kate just went to fix her make-up. That girl is so conscious about her appearance it kills me. She doesn't believe me when I say she has a natural beauty."

Lizzie smiled as Gordo rambled on about Kate. Was he really in love? Or had Kate just put some kind of spell on him? "That sounds like Kate. She has been like that ever since she was able to brush her own hair," Lizzie said remembering when she and Kate were best friends.

Silence fell over the two teenagers and Lizzie felt like she could cry. When did things between them become so alien? Gordo rocked back and forward on his heel and Lizzie could tell he was uncomfortable.

"Well.... I uh should get back to Ethan," Lizzie said. "He's probably wondering where I went. Have a goodnight Gordo."

"You too Lizzie. I'll uh...talk to you later?"

Lizzie nodded and turned. She feared that she would never talk to Gordo again. She fought her way through the dance floor when she felt a hand on her shoulder. She turned around and was surprised to see Gordo standing there.

"I'm sorry Lizzie," he said honestly.

Lizzie smiled and leaned forward to hug him. "Dance with me?" Gordo didn't answer he just put his arms around her waist and held her tightly. Lizzie rested her head on his shoulder and for 3 minutes she was in heaven. She was right where she wanted to be. "Gordo...,"she whispered into his ear.

"Yeah?"

"Um...I need to tell you something," she said holding back the tears in her eyes.

"What is it?" he asked pulling back to look into her eyes.

"You've.... you've always been the one who I could run to and you're all..." Lizzie stopped talking when Gordo stopped dancing. Kate was staring at him and she looked really hurt. "She looks mad. Maybe you should go..."

"I'm sorry Lizzie," he gave her a quick squeeze and walked away. That was the last time she talked to Gordo. She hated hearing ' I'm sorry' all the time. Everyone is sorry but are they going to do anything about it. No! Gordo is going to dance with Kate and they will live happily ever after while Lizzie is once again left outside.

Lizzie slipped out of the ballroom and out into the lobby and sat down on a large pillow couch. This was suppose to be the best night of her life but she can't seem to put a smile on.

Ethan had seen her leave the party and followed her outside. Lizzie had become one Ethan's best friend and the only one she talked to who went to her middle school.

"Hey there," he said sitting next to her. "What's up?"

Lizzie put on a fake smile. "Oh noting. I am great. I'm having the time of my life. I just needed to get out for a second because the music is so loud. I am getting a head ache from it."

"Really? I saw you dancing with Gordo...."

"Yeah I was dancing with Gordo," she said sadly, "until Kate walked in."

Lizzie fought to keep the tears back. "She better treat him right or I swear to god she will wish she never knew me," she mumbled angrily.

"Don't worry about Gordo. He knows how to take care of himself. And in all honesty Kate is harmless. She has grown in the last year and Gordo seems like the perfect match for her."

"How can you say that?" Lizzie spat out. "They have absolutely nothing in common! She was a complete bitch to Gordo and me all through middle school and high school. And for 3 god damn years Gordo was head over heels for me!!"

"Oh I see what this is about. Kate stole your best friend and now you're jealous right?" Ethan said nudging her with his elbow.

"I'm not just jealous Ethan. I'm.... in love," she whispered.

Ethan just looked at Lizzie for a second. She looked disheveled and tired. She had bags under her eyes despite the make-up that tried to cover it. She looked pale and far too skinny. Senior year was her downfall and she was slowly fading away into the dark.

"Did you tell him? You've got to tell him Lizzie. It's Prom night, the night where you can do whatever you want," Ethan said encouragingly. "Tell him because you've got nothing to lose and for all you know you may never see him again."

Lizzie shook her head with defeat. "I already tried but Kate showed up. Don't you see? He is with Kate and he is happy with her. I can't ruin that. I have no right to come in between them. I'm happy that Gordo finally found someone he can connect with. It's too late for me," Lizzie said.

"Hey Craft! There's a party going on upstairs in room 2502! Come on up! It's kicking!" a football player yelled as he and his drunk date walked to the elevator.

"I can't man! I'll talk to you later," Ethan said looking down at Lizzie who was sulking.

"Don't not go because of me Ethan. It's graduation you should be having fun. I'm ruining your night. Go! Have fun! Don't worry about me."

"But that's just it Lizzie I am worried about you. I am not just going to leave you in this condition. What can I do to cheer you up?"

Lizzie sighed, "I don't know.... Let's go up to that party. It will help me get my mind off things."

"Are you sure?"

"Of course I am sure. Let's go Craft. You still owe me a slow dance!"

As Ethan and Lizzie waited for the elevator Lizzie saw Gordo and Kate exit the ballroom. They were laughing over something. She was jealous over their happens and her body stiffened under Ethan's arm. The elevator doors opened and Ethan walked in.

"Lizzie go talk to him," Ethan said leaning on the door. "You know you want to."

Lizzie looked back at them smiling at each other. Then turned to Ethan and walked into the elevator. "Going up?" The doors slowly slide shut and Gordo was never to be seen again.

Lizzie sat in the hotel room on a couch in-between four other guys. They were all drunk and acting stupid. The moment Ethan stepped into the room she lost him. She later on saw Miranda walk in with Danny wrapped around her waist. She was jealous of their happiness as well. She couldn't just be happy for them because she wasn't happy.

"Hey Lizzie," on of the guys said, "you wanna see something funny?"

"No not really," she said flatly. "I think I'm going to get a drink."

"No, no wait this is really funny. Come on wait please!!! You're going to break my heart," he whined.

"Good," Lizzie said getting up. She pushed her way threw the mound of people that had accumulated throughout the night into one other bathrooms. The bathtub was filled with ice and alcohol. She dipped her hand in a pulled out a Smirnoff Ice. Lizzie had never been drunk before, she hadn't even had a whole beer. Within 10 minutes the vodka was gone and she felt on top of the world.

She twirled around the room dancing, singing, and knocking into people. She could care less though because no one would remember this the next morning let alone herself.

The next morning Lizzie woke up in a larger king size bed next to Ethan. She looked under the sheets and to her horror she was in fact naked. She was relieved that it was Ethan and not some other loser she didn't but she was disappointed in herself because she can't even remember her first time.

She quickly pulled her dress back on and climbed over the sleeping bodies on the hotel room floor. She walked into the washroom and looked at her reflection in the mirror. Her hair was a tangled mess and her make-up was smeared across her face. She looked like she had been through a tornado. As she was turning around she saw Miranda leaning against the toilet bowl.

"Hey Lizzie," she mumbled sitting up. "Looking good!"

"Yeah you too. Have a good time last night?"

"Oh yeah, a night to remember. You looked like you were having a great time with Ethan. All your dreams finally came true huh? You went to prom with Ethan Craft. Was it everything you hoped for?"

Lizzie stood thinking for a moment. What were her dreams? It wasn't Ethan that was certain. What Lizzie really wanted was to get away from everyone and everything she knew. She had to leave so she quickly turned around.

"Hey where are you going?," Miranda asked wiping the drool from her mouth.

"I'm leaving. Goodbye Miranda," Lizzie said leaving the bathroom. But Miranda didn't know what that meant. She didn't realize that that was the last conversation she would be having with Lizzie.

Lizzie went back to the bedroom to get her satin purse and stiletto shoes. She leaned down and kissed Ethan on the cheek then left the hotel room. It was 6:00am on a Saturday morning. No one was up yet. Lizzie walked out of the hotel and walked to the highway where she waited for an hour for someone to pick her up.

"Where are you headed?" the man in the trunk asked.

"Anywhere but here," Lizzie answered. And so her adventure started with a trunk driver.
