Chapter 3 -
It's been five months since Clark and Chloe left Smallville. Lana has been keeping in touch with both of them and things are starting to look brighter for her. Nell is responding well with her chemotherapy and Lana finally submitted her college application again. She is planning to start school the upcoming year. Although she'll be late, she feels that it is better than not going all together. Much to Lionel's displeasure, Lex has decided to stay in Smallville a little longer to help Lana manage the Talon.
Disclaimer: Again, I do not own any of these characters....but can I just own Michael Rosenbaum instead? =)
Scene starts at the Talon where Lana and crew are decorating for Pete's going away party. He is leaving tonight for Boston where he is to attend a college there. It is to be a surprise party for him.

Lana while sitting with her head down is writing something onto a notebook. Three of her staff is in the kitchen preparing. The bell from the front door rings and without looking up Lana talks to the patron.
Lana: I'm sorry but we're closed this evening.
Lex: I own the place, so I think I'm an exception.
Lana's cheeks suddenly flushes with embarrassment as she smiles back at Lex. The two of them have been spending more time together these past months and that's why it's no wonder why their friendship became even stronger. Lex sits next to Lana.
Lana: I don't know how we're gonna get this place ready in time for Pete's party tonight?
Lex: It's a party, how hard can all of it be?
Lana: Obviously you haven't thrown one these before.
Lex: Well, as I recalled I did once, on your birthday.
Lana: Yeah, but Lex you had your staff do all the work for you. That is totally different.
Lex smiles at Lana as she smiles and shakes her head at him. He takes one of the blown up balloons and grabs it with his hands. He suddenly decides to pop it. Lana reaches over to him and playfully pinches his arm.
Lex: Ouch! Lana if you wanted to touch me you could've just asked.
Lana: Yeah, you wish!
They both laugh and suddenly their eyes meet. Lana never noticed how lovely Lex's eyes were. No matter how much she tells herself to look away, she just can't. Besides, he's not exactly looking away either. Lex takes his hand and slowly reaches out for Lana's face. He is so afraid that she might look away, but he just wants so badly to feel exactly how soft her skin is.
Lana: Lex I don't think.....
Lex: I don't think so either.
Suddenly they begin to kiss. The kiss only lasted a few seconds and Lana finds herself wanting more. She begins to reach over to him for another kiss, but the front door suddenly opens. It's Jonathan carrying a big box. Lana quickly stands up leaving Lex sitting on the chair.
Jonathan: Hey Lex, I didn't know that you were here.
Lex: Good afternoon Mr. Kent!
Jonathan: Well Lana, here are the sodas and chips Martha wanted me to give you for tonight.
Lana just looks at Jonathan frozen from where she is standing. All she is doing is smiling back at him and Lex. Lex gets up and takes the box from Jonathan and carries it in the kitchen. Jonathan then walks over to Lana.
Jonathan: How are you doing Lana? How's Nell?
Lana: Um, I'm good Mr. Kent. Nell is doing fine. Thank you for asking!
Jonathan: Clark called this morning and mentioned that he'll be here tonight in time for Pete's party. I'm sure you two have a lot of catching up to do.
Lana: Yes, that sounds great. I can't wait to see him.
Jonathan: (after a few seconds of silence) Okay I better get home. I'll see you tonight.
Lana smiles at Jonathan as he walks out the door. Just then, Lex walks out of the kitchen. As soon as he notices that the two of them are alone in the room once again, his legs suddenly feels stiff. The two of them find themselves just staring at each other.
Lana: (decides to brake the silence) I should really finish here.
Lex: Lana....
Lana: No Lex, it's okay. I'm okay. Please don't take this the wrong way, but I think I need you to leave. Please
Lex stares at her for a moment and walks out. Lana watches him as he gets in his car and drives away. She sits and while she closes her eyes, she softly touches her lips.

Back at the mansion Lionel is sitting on the couch reading what appears to be a journal. When he hears someone walking in the room, he quickly hides it behind him.
Lex: Hello dad, what do I owe this ill-fated visit?
Lionel: Lex, why start off so hostile?
Lex: (goes to get a drink) I'm sorry if I sound bitter, but my father placed me in an asylum this past year. Did some damage and it still upsets me a bit.
Lionel: I'm not going to even start that again with you. I feel that we've already passed beyond that.
Lex: What is it that you want? I thought that you were leaving for Australia? I was already starting to celebrate.
Lionel: Well I was, until I found out that the Director I left in charge of Luthorcorp is out playing make believe here in Smallville.
Lex: What the hell are you talking about?
Lionel gets up and hands Lex the journal he was reading. Lex realizes that it's his journal. Lionel broke into Lex's safe and took it.
Lex: What do you want?
Lionel: I am just looking out for my son, the future of Luthorcorp.
Lex: Look, I already accepted to run your corporation....
Lionel: Oh come on Lex, as if you had a choice. You came after me and I completely shattered you. I think you should be thankful that I took you back in.
Lex looks at Lionel with anger and begins to walk away, but Lionel grabs his arm. Lionel leans close to Lex's face and whispers.
Lionel: Do you really think that orphan girl is going to love you back? Come on Lex, you should know better than that! We all know where her heart is and it's certainly not with you.
Lex looks at Lionel grinning and Lex forcefully pulls his arm away from his dad. Lionel is smirking while watching Lex leave the room.

At the Talon everyone is already there. Lana is in the kitchen making sure that everything is set. Chloe walks in and Lana sees her right away.
Lana: Hey!
They both happily embrace one another.
Lana: So, how's life in Metropolis?
Chloe: Ugh, rough. Everything and everyone moves so fast. Sometimes you really have no time to think. Everything is so big and bright.....
Lana: And I sense that you love it.
Chloe: Absolutely! It's a perfect fit!
Lana: How does it feel being a big time reporter?
Chloe: Okay, you should know better than call me that. Especially when I'm still considered the little meddling schoolgirl around the office.
They both smile at each other. Chloe walks away from Lana to sit on a stool across from her. Lana continues to pour potato chips into a bowl.
Lana: How's school? And um....how's Clark?
Chloe: Huh, I was wondering how long it would take until you asked about him. Lana: I know. I'm sorry for brining up his name.
Chloe: I thought you two keep in touch?
Lana: We do...we did. (looks down looking sad) I haven't heard from him in a month. I just thought the two of you spend a lot of time together.
Chloe: Well that's a world of no. After his internship ended, we pretty much saw less of each other. Clark really doesn't have that much time for anything else these days.
Lana: I thought you two are in the same university?
Chloe: Yeah but, he's been weird lately. I don't know. (takes a chip and bites on it) Maybe I've just been busy myself.
Nell sticks her head in the kitchen and tells Lana that Clark is already outside with Pete. Chloe happily claps her hands and quickly leaves the room. As soon as Clark and Pete walks in, everyone in the room yells out a great big surprise. Pete looks so flattered and playfully punches Clark for tricking him. Chloe rushes towards Pete as he begins to thank everyone in the room. Clark looks around the room and finally finds who he is looking for. He smiles and walks towards Lana. Clark quickly hugs her tight. He unlocks himself and looks at her for a moment.
Clark: It's so nice to see you!
Lana: It's nice to see you too Clark!
Outside the Talon, Lex parks his car across the street from the Talon. Although he is not invited, he wants to go in to talk to Lana. Lex is about to open the glass door, when he suddenly sees Clark and Lana talking to each other. He notices her smile and how delighted she looks. Lex takes his hand off the knob and turns to walk away. The door suddenly opens and he quickly looks behind.
Lex: Hello Chloe!
Chloe: Lex, what are you doing out here?
Lex: Um, I was just looking for Clark.
Chloe: Oh, he's inside. Come, I'll take you to him.
Lex: Well, I wasn't really invited.
Chloe: (smiles and takes Lex's hand) Don't be silly. I'm sure Clark will be happy to see you!
Lex: (pulling his hand away gently from Chloe) No, no, that's okay. I should go. It's good to see you Chloe. Take care.
Lex walks away from Chloe and towards his car. He hears Chloe walk inside the Talon and so Lex turns around. He stands for a moment looking back before getting inside his car and driving away.

Jonathan: Hey Lex, I didn't know that you were here.
