A/N: Well one night when I was watching the InuYasha reruns, they played
the episode that explained how Kikyo and InuYasha met and I came up with a
theory about why Kikyo acts they way she does. Please keep in mind that
this is a THEORY!!!!!!!
Why I can't stand Kikyo from InuYasha
Alright let's start at the basics. Kikyo was a priestess and a very good one at that. Her main objective was to make sure that no demon got a hold of the jewel. Now as you can imagine she was tired after warding off demons day after day after day and longed for the life of an ordinary women. Hey who wouldn't?
That's when InuYasha came into the picture; Kikyo realized that InuYasha could help make her dream come true. If he became full human instead of a full demon, that would purify the jewel and therefore she could be an ordinary women. So of course she couldn't kill him. Now Kikyo is not one to give up easily and she was willing to do anything to reach her dream of having an ordinary life, even if it meant playing with someone's emotions. So she put on an act for InuYasha.
At first she put out the bait to lure him in, the Shikon Jewel. She knew he couldn't resist his dream of becoming a full demon either; so he would keep coming back to get it. At first she acted like he wasn't worth her time killing him, but that was just so she could enter his mind. Then as soon as he started following her to try and get a chance to steal the jewel; she knew he had fallen for the bait and was ready to make her next move.
Now as we all know InuYasha is half demon and half human. His mother was the only one to give him love, kindness, and acceptance. After his mom died he built up a wall of defense; so that he couldn't be hurt again. Now he never would admit it, but deep inside he probably longed for that kind of love again. This is why he took Kikyo's bait so easily.
Now the next step in Kikyo's plan was to put her fish on the hook. I am now referring to the famous hill talk scene, where InuYasha felt guilty for the first time. Kikyo then revealed a semi true reason why she wouldn't kill him. It was after InuYasha got up and was about to leave when Kikyo panicked and had to think of something fast. So, she put on the best sad eyed puppy dog face she could muster. When InuYasha stayed and gazed upon her face she knew her fish had been caught, but she knew at this point her prey could easily slip away from her grasp. So she stayed by his side and spent time more and more time with him, until she knew he wouldn't leave her side. It was then time to reel in her catch.
She then reviled her true desire with InuYasha to become ordinary. Now InuYasha really wasn't sure what to do when she told him this; so she had to make yet another yank to reel him in. When they were going on a boat ride later that day, she purposely tripped so InuYasha would catch her. When InuYasha embraced her, she knew that she had her prize and there was no way he could make it back into the water.
Then came that fateful day when Naraku a.k.a. Onigumo was jealous of Kikyo and InuYasha and set them both up so that they would think they betrayed each other. Knowing that she was going to die soon, Kikyo got the last of her strength and pinned InuYasha to a tree because she didn't get what she wanted so there was nothing to hold her back from killing InuYasha. Her last request was to burn the Jewel with her remains; this was so InuYasha along with anyone else in the future wouldn't ever achieve their dream with the Shikon Jewel because she didn't achieve hers.
In short, it was all a lie! She didn't love him.
