I wrote this after hearing Thief by Third Day. I'm not a Christian, but
when my friend was listening to it, it made me cry. So, here is a song
fiction. I don't own anything.
He was dragged out of his cell; he knew it was time to go. He had robbed a family that had been traveling into town and killed them all. He smelled of sweat and of his own waste. They had tracked him down and brought him to
justice.
~ I am a thief, I am a murderer walking up this lonely hill~
The guards dragged him through the streets screaming "Here's a man who is to die!" He was tired and now saw it plain that he wasn't getting out of
this one. He had sinned, he would die a slow, painful death.
~ What have I done? I don't remember. No one knows just how I feel, and I
know that my time is coming soon~
He looked at the hill where he would spend the last of his life. He would be looked on with shame; no one could feel sorry for him. He could hear the
whispers of people who wanted to see blood for blood.
~ It's been so long. Oh, such a long time since I've lived with peace and rest. Now I am here, my destination, guess things work for the best. And I
know that my time is coming soon~
They nailed him down to a wooden cross and raised it high. The weight of his body was pulling on his hands. He had to pull his weight up so he could
breathe. He hadn't known how long before he heard angry shouts. After
listening to them, he knew that they weren't about him.
~ Who is this man? This man beside me They call the King of the Jews They don't believe that He's the Messiah But, somehow I know it's true And they laugh at Him in mockery, and beat Him till he bleeds They nail Him to the
rugged cross, and raise Him, they raise Him up next to me~
He watched as the new comer was yelled at by the other man who was hung beside him. Faith seemed to fill him. If he had to die now, he wanted to
die with hope.
~ My time has come, I'm slowly fading I deserve what I receive Jesus when
You are in Your kingdom Could You please remember me and He looks at me
still holding on the tears fall from His eyes He says I tell the truth
Today, you will live with Me in paradise~
He hung there with his last breath, watching the other man, the Messiah, die. He did not hear anything else after Jesus had spoken to him. All he
heard was his promise in to heaven.
~ and I know that my time is coming soon~
Soon, he was at peace.
~ And know paradise is coming soon.~
Sorry this was so short, I was crying while writing this. This was in
memory of an angel who had danced to the song Thief on Good Friday four
years ago.
