Running Away
Chapter 3: My New Life
*~*~*~*~*
*********Yuffie's POV************
When I first entered this planet, I thought it was strange because I had landed in the woods and all I could see was trees. But once I entered the city, I learned many things. I had gotten friends, and I was living in an apartment close to my new friends.
As soon as I had entered the city, I bumped into a man. I asked him what planet this was, and he said 'Earth'. He looked at me strangely, and I only kept walking.
Ahead of me, I could see the city end, and saw a large green hill. On the hill were large letters forming the word 'Hollywood'. I figured that was the name of the city, and just walked on.
It was three years ago that I first walked on this planet. Before, I didn't know anything, and felt weirdly dressed around all of these people. They were all wearing simple things, unlike me who had a variety of colors in my clothing. Some people looked at me strangely, and I just ignored their looks.
Now I knew the correct way to dress on this planet. All thanks to me best friend, Lauren. She was a tall girl with blonde hair that went just below her shoulders. She did have curves, and she was one of the most popular people in her school.
When I had met her, she questioned the way I dressed. I said this is how I always dress, and she insisted on going shopping with me. I agreed, since I did want to blend in. Then at the so-called 'mall', she took me out, and we bought many clothes for me. She soon became my best friend on this planet, in fact, my only one.
From her, I learned all the things about Earth. She said they never knew about the other galaxies out there, and that they only knew about their own solar system. I was confused, aren't they able to travel to space from planet to planet? When I asked her, she said 'of course not'. She then asked me of how come I didn't know of these things, and I thought up of a lie quickly. Since they didn't travel through space, I shouldn't tell her that I'm from somewhere in space. Instead, it old her that I wasn't taught well.
Hearing this, Lauren taught me everything there is to now about Earth. While she helped me, we became more and more bonded.
Now I attended school in Hollywood. I have become one of the most popular people in school now, though, I only stick to Lauren. Boys have asked me out of course, but I just turn them down.
This planet is far different from Traverse Town or Hollow Bastion. Here, I also got my driver's license and I drove a white Pacifica. During my first year here, I worked at a grocery store. I had gotten lots f money for working for 14 hours. I was desperate to get money that I needed, since I knew I'd stay on this planet for quite a while, or for the rest of my life.
I now was on my apartment bed. My apartment was little; it had only two rooms. The living room and kitchen were connected together, and my bedroom was the other room. And I of course had a bathroom.
I lay on my bed, looking at my ceiling. I was having a wonderful time here. I even met stars and got their autographs.
Now I was wearing really short shorts, and a green tang top. I still kept my yellow band in my hair, and I still kept my boots. My other clothes that I wore in Traverse Town, were in my drawer.
I sighed as I sat up on my bed. There was nothing to do. Maybe Lauren and I could go see a movie? Or we can go shopping again.
I think I spoke too soon because somebody knocked on my door. I went over and opened it to reveal Lauren smiling.
"Hey," I said, stepping aside so Lauren can come in. She stepped in and sat down on the couch. I sat down along with her.
"I was thinking that we could go see a movie today," she said, still having that smile on her face.
I smiled. "I'd love that. I was getting bored here anyway."
She laughed, "Yeah, me too."
"So, what movie are we going to see?" I asked.
"I don't know. I thought that we'd maybe go see Pirates of the Caribbean. It's a new movie and it had Orlando Bloom in it!"
I laughed. Lauren was always the one who got crazy over Orlando Bloom. I remember when we were walking through the streets, near the filming buildings, and she bumped into Orlando Bloom himself. She squeaked and started acting like those obsessed fan girls. She had gotten a hug from him, and was all day telling me of how she was never going to wash herself again. Then in the end, I got her to take her shower, rinsing off where Orlando had touched her.
"Yeah, sure, lets go." I said, "What time does it start?"
"In a half hour."
"All right, we better leave now. Let me go get my purse." I said as I jumped off the couch, and into the bathroom where my purse was. It was on a shelf, and I picked it up. When I turned around, I was facing the mirror. I stared at myself, non-blinkingly. Then out of nowhere, Squall's face appeared next to mine. I made a little squeak, shut my eyes, and shook my head. When I looked back up, Squall was gone.
That was freaky.
While watching the movie, I enjoyed the fighting parts. Especially when Will Turner and Jack Sparrow were having a sword fight. It kind of reminded me of Squall. How he used to fight with his gunblade. I shook my head again. What was wrong with me? Why do I keep thinking of Squall? I've never done that on Earth before. Why am I doing it now?
Tears came to my eyes, but they didn't come down. I quickly shook them away, and watched the rest of the movie.
At the end, Lauren and I walked out of the movie theater, and looked at each other as soon as we were outside.
"So...what now?" I asked.
"I don't know, want to go shopping? The mall closes at 7, and right now its 5. Want to go?"
"Sure." I simply replied.
Lauren and I of course bought as much things as our hands could carry. Though, something weird happened. As we walked by a men's store, a leather jacket was up in the display case. My eyes went blank, and I saw Squall there, wearing that jacket in that display case. I quickly looked away, and continued walking, feeling a lump in my throat.
At around 6:30, we ate dinner there, and then went to a jewelry store. As soon as we stepped out of that store, the mall was about to close.
So we headed to our apartments that were across from each other, and dropped off our stuff. Then Lauren came over to my apartment again and asked if I wanted to go to a club with some of Laurens friends.
"Is it like a bar type thing?" I asked, not sure if I then wanted to go.
"Oh no, it's just a regular dance club. Tonight, is karaoke night, and I know you have a great voice, so I wanted us to try it out. So, how about it?" She asked with pleading eyes.
I smiled, "All right, as long as there's no bar."
So I stepped out, and Lauren and I walked to the club, without driving our cars. It was a one-story building and as soon as we walked in, music boomed in our ears.
"Over here guys!" someone called for us. We looked to the side, and saw Laurens friends at a table. So we walked over and sat down. We started talking for a while.
The dance floor was sin the middle of the room, while tables were spreaded around the outside. In the front was a stage with a microphone on it.
"Hey, hey, hey ladies and gentlemen!" said guy on the stage who was speaking into the microphone. Everyone quieted down, and I looked over. "Tonight is the night for the karaoke contest! Anyone who wants to do it, stand over to the right of the stage in a line, and then tell us what song you want us to play. We'll then pick a winner, and you shall win a club trophy! All right, everyone line up!"
He said, and his arm points to the right. People started getting up and making a line. While others stood in front of the stage, eager to hear the people sing.
"Come on Yuffie!" Lauren said pulling my arm. "You're good at singing! You should try it!" I let her drag me to the line, and I waited patiently.
The people who had sang were pretty bad, but people cheered anyway. Only one or two people were really good. Then soon enough, I was next in line. A person with a clipboard stood beside me and asked what song I was going to sing. I told him my favorite song, Everywhere by Michelle Branch. He nodded, and another person came around and looked at the piece of paper. He quickly walked off, and soon I walked onto the stage.
Everyone looked at me, smiling. I took a deep breath, and I waited for the music. As soon as it came on, I started to sing.
Turn it inside out so I can see
The part of you that is drifting over me
And when I wake you're never there
But when I sleep you're everywhere
You're everywhere
I looked into the audience, and they were all cheering for me. They had their arms in the air and waving it. But sadness hit me. This song was explaining me, about me thinking of Squall and how his face is tormenting me everywhere I go.
Just tell me how I got this far
Just tell why you're here and who you are
Cause every time I look
You're never there
And every time I sleep
Always there
Cause you're everywhere to me
And when I close my eyes it's you I see
You're everything I know
That makes me believe
I'm not alone
I'm not alone
I recognize the way you make me feel
It's hard to think that
You might not be real
I sense it now, the waters getting deep
I try to wash the pain away from me
Away from me
Cause you're everywhere to me
And when I close my eyes it's you I see
You're everything I know
That makes me believe
I'm not alone
I'm not alone
I'm not alone, whoa oohh, oh, oh
And when I touch your hand
It's then I understand
The beauty that's within
It's now that we begin
You always light my way
I hope there never comes a day
No matter where I go
I always feel you so
Cause you're everywhere to me
And when I close my eyes it's you I see
You're everything I know
That makes me believe
That I'm not alone
Cause you're everywhere to me
And when I catch my breath
It's you I breathe
You're everything I know
That makes me believe
I'm not alone
You're everything I see
So tell me
Do you see me?
I ended, and the whole crowd burst into ear breaking applause. Lauren and her friends were screaming for me and were jumping up and down in the crowd. I smiled as I walked off of the stage.
Tears welled up into my eyes. That song was true to me. I guess that's why I like it so much.
Lauren came up to me first and congratulated me. "You were awesome!" she exclaimed.
I smiled and said, "I'm not feeling well. I'm going to go home." And with that I walked out the door towards my house.
As soon as I walked into my apartment, I ran and jumped onto my bed. I cried into my pillow. After three long years, I've really missed them. All of them. Squall, Aerith, and Cloud. The pillow soon became wet, and I continued crying.
My tears finally ended, and I just lay in bed, looking sideways at the wall. My cheeks were puffy, and my eyes were red.
I was nineteen now, and after all of these years, I finally felt sorry for my leaving. Maybe I could pretend going to Earth was a vacation. I just needed a break and time to myself. And like every vacation, you have to go back home. I smiled as I got up and headed to my drawer. I put on my old clothes, and got a suitcase out.
I was going to go home.
