Running Away

Chapter 6: Girl Talk

*~*~*~*~*~*

**********Yuffie's POV************

I woke up in the Red room, feeling very comfortable. Man did I miss waking up into the redness of this room. It felt much better than my apartment on Earth.

As for Lauren, I hardly miss her. Sure she taught me everything on Earth, but she could never replace my true friends here.

I got up, took a shower, got dressed into my usual clothes (khaki shorts, green tank top, stockings...) and headed out the door. It was nine o'clock now, and I know that everyone else was already up and about.

Not feeling hungry, I decided to walk around all the districts, just to see how they changed or didn't. When I finished walking around the second district, I headed to the first. People were talking, and I saw the restaurant by the Item Shop, practically full.

After I had walked around a few minutes, I then went into the third district. There were only a few people here, and the people that were here were heading towards the fourth district. I sighed. I liked the fourth district and all, but all these people kind of messed up the peace and quiet that was once here in Traverse Town.

After taking in all of the scenery, I went into the Secret Waterway. There, surprisingly, was Aerith. She was sitting down, and he back leaned against the wall.

"What are you doing here?" I asked, walking towards her and sat down.

"Oh, just thinking." She said, looking at the water. I did too, and after an awkward silence, Aerith looked at me. "Why did you leave?" she asked me.

I knew this was going to happen! But if I lie, then she would surely notice. I sighed, thinking of what to say. I was about to say something when Aerith said, I want the truth."

I looked at her. "Why do you want to know?"

"Well, I thought that you left because of the talk we had that night. About you and Leon."

She thought it was her fault! Oh shoot, I better tell her the truth. I looked at her, and saw her eyes full of worry.

"It wasn't your fault Aerith." I said. "I just needed some time to think by myself, get my mind off of things." I wasn't looking at her anymore. I seemed particularly interested in my hands that were in my lap.

"But there must have been some reason why you left." She said to me.

Aerith sure was curious. Maybe Aerith should know, about me, about why I left. I didn't say anything for a few seconds. Aerith waited patiently like she always does.

Then I said, "Well...I overheard Squall and cloud talking."

Aerith raised her eyebrows. "Was this on the night that you and I talked?"

"Yeah."

"Oh, I think I know, but can you please tell me anyway?"

"Uh, sure, I guess." I was still looking at my hands. "Well, I heard Squall saying that I'm so annoying."

Aerith looked puzzled. "And that's it?" she asked.

I shook my head. "I know that I can be annoying to him, so it wasn't a surprise to me. But he said-he said he hated me." I felt tears coming into my eyes. They were about to fall, but I pushed them back. "That's not even the worst part for me. He said that he didn't love me-"I stopped. I didn't want to go to far.

Aerith smiled slightly. "You love him, don't you?" she whispered to me. I shot my head up to her eyes. I smiled, and looked away again, "I think I do." I whispered back, feeling the tears coming. One came down, but I held the rest back.

Aerith looked at me carefully, but I avoided eye contact. "Is that why you left? Because he said he hated you and he said that he didn't love you?"

I nodded. Yeah, that pretty much was it.

"But I guess I already knew that already," I said. "I mean, he could probably never love a girl like me. I'm always annoying and-"

"But what if he did?"

I snorted. "Yeah right, all I am to him is a little girl who always gets in the way. Nothing more."

"Do you really think that?"

"Well, yeah."

Aerith looked away, and then said, "Well, Cloud and I planned on talking to both of you. Both of us thought that you and Leon had feelings for each other, and we wanted you two to be together. So I talked to you that one night, and cloud talked to Leon. I didn't realize that you'd leave because of that."

I didn't say anything. What were you supposed to say? "Did you think I left because of our talk?" I asked her.

"Yes, I did. I felt miserable-"

"Sorry," I quickly said. "I didn't want you to think that."

Aerith nodded, "It's all right," she said.

We sat there for a few moments, just thinking. "Did you meet another guy at that place called Earth?" Aerith finally asked. "You know, to get Leon off of your mind?"

I shook my head. "No, I just left just to get time by myself. I didn't really meet a guy. Sure guys came up to me, but I never talked to any of them."

Aerith didn't say anything. "Leon was pretty worried about you," she said.

I looked up, my eyebrows raised. "Really?" I asked.

"Yes, I remember that one night. I was walking around, when Leon ran up to me and had shown me the note. You should've saw his face. He kept asking questions that I couldn't answer. I told him to go to bed, and the next day, he was gone. He had said that he went everywhere in Traverse Town, and asked lots of people where you were. He even traveled to other planets, and looked everywhere for you. Cloud and I were worried about him."

"Wow," I said. "I never knew that he'd do that."

"He did. It took some time before Cloud and I got his mind off of you. Sure he still missed you, a lot, but Cloud and I tried out best to get his mind on other things. Sometimes I even thought that it worked."

I took that all in. Was Squall really THAT worried for me? I thought that he'd just read my note, then throw it away and not care anything about it. I even thought that he'd be happy. But I was wrong, he had spent most of his time looking for me. I was still shocked.

Aerith looked at me and smiled at the look on my face.

My stomach soon made grumbling noises. Aerith heard that and stood up. "Come on, let's get something to eat." She said, and she held her hand out. I took it and she helped me up.

We went to he little restaurant by the Item Shop in the first district. Cloud and Squall were already there, eating. Aerith and I sat down by them, and I couldn't help but smile at Squall when we sat down. As soon as I had gotten my food, I ate it, and didn't look at Squall. But in my mind, I was smiling at him.

What I didn't know was that Squall was looking at me the whole time while I ate.
