Chapter 2: Sephiroth returns
I leaped forward at him, thrusting the sword at him as hard as I could.
"Come on Cloud your faster than that. Your moving way too slow and sloppy," he explained to me. I tried to swing the sword downward, but as the sword hit the ground he had already moved.
"The hell? Where did you go?" I questioned. Suddenly he appeared behind me. With a quick thrust he jammed the hilt of his long sword into my back.
"This isn't like you Cloud, what happened to you? Get slow in your old age?" he taunted. Why did he keep calling me Cloud? I had no idea who this Cloud person was, yet he seemed to think I was the very same guy.
"What the hell are you talking about? I'm not Cloud," I coughed out of sheer pain.
"You are Cloud, the very same person that tried to destroy me when I attempted to suck the planet of all its spiritual energy and fuse with it to be an ultimate being. It is I Cloud, your enemy Sephiroth," he said as he snickered. At first I was confused. I had no idea what he was talking about. I looked at the huge sword in my hand. Then I realized that this sword was the same used to stop The guy named Sephiroth from ending the world. This sword was the very same that killed him 70 years ago.
"You, your Sephiroth?" I asked, but before he answered my question he hit the hilt of the sword against my neck, knocking me out instantly. As I feel to the ground the only thing I could think of was that I had been wrong all these years, the stories that Dad told to the town had all been true. And now it was up to me to put a stop to him again.
I Awoke later. I had no idea what time it was. I figured I had been out for hours, maybe even a day. I stood up and looked around. All I could see where burnt down buildings and dead bodies. It looked as though I was the only one left alive after sephiroth came and destroyed the town. Did he take a liking to me? Maybe it was cause he thought I was this cloud person he spoke of.
I tried to decided what I would do next. Dad had said that the rest of the people had escaped to the town of Vandal. I assumed that they all got away safely so it would be a good idea to go check out Vandal and see if everyone was ok. I went back home and got a couple of things. I picked up the Bunny that I forgot to give Mai, hoping to give it to her when I found her, If she was alive that is. I also decided to pack up some cloths and other such things. Food was going to be needed as well, since I knew it would take about a day to get to Vandal if I made my time right.
I walked out of town after burring all the bodies I could find that where somewhat whole or able to be carried. Sephiroth had cut most of them up into unrecognizable pieces and it was impossible to match any of them up. I found my bearings and started to walk. I was going to have to walk through the forest to get there, and it would save me some time if I didn't run into any monsters. The past before the forest was mostly just plains so it would be easy for me to travel from there. The walk would be a long one.
After about a couple hours I decided to take a little break, I had been walking all day. I sat in an empty area near a rock that was in the ground. It was the perfect shape for someone to just sit down and rest. I set up some wood and started a fire. As I gazed into the flame I thought about all that was happening. Nothing was going right at all. I was supposed to be getting married to Mai right now, and here I am trying to find her if she's alive. And Dad is now dead. If only I hadn't taken that nap, maybe I could have been there to save him. How could my life have changed so fast. I could help but hate myself for not being there to help them fight Sephiroth.
"Why am I such a moron?!' I bellowed from deep within me. I looked up and wondered if maybe something bad was going to happen now that Sephiroth was now back. And if he did try to bring evil again, would we be able to stop him? The thought that maybe the world was resting on my shoulders was a scary one. But right now all I wanted to focus one was getting to Vandal and finding Mai.
I stood and put out the fire. I picked up my stuff and started walking. I was carrying the sword by some straps I wrapped around it. It wasn't too heavy so the straps could hold the tension that gravity was causing. My feet where feeling a lot better and I had almost reached the forest. I seemed to be making good time, it was only what seemed to be a little after noon and I was almost at the forest, I figured I would be out of the forest by sundown.
As I reached the edge of the forest, I looked in to see if I could see anything. It was dark inside and I could feel the presence of monsters stirring about. I hoped that I would have to use this big sword one more time, even though I was almost certain I was going to have to sooner or later.
I stepped into the forest and all seemed ok. I walked for about 2 hours with no conflict. I spent most of the time thinking about what I was going to do. If Sephiroth did indeed return, how did it happen? I thought he was destroyed long ago. And what about the old mansion? Dad said he came from the old mansion. What was the story behind the old mansion as well? I wish I had paid a lot more attention to what dad had to say about this.
Consumed in thought, I proceeded through the forest and eventually came to the end. Right as I was to step out, a monster appeared out of the trees and charged at me. I paniced and got my sword ready. He swung at me with his mighty first and almost hit me. I moved at the last second and dodged the punch. He came at me again with his other fist. I held my sword up in an attempt to block it. His fist connected with the sword and knocked me back onto the ground at least 20 feet. This monster was huge, as tall as a house and just as wide. It had huge horns coming out of the sides of its head and mouth. Its teeth where as big as I was and its tung hung from its mouth. It had a long Lizard like tail that swung fast across the ground. Slimy drool dripped from its mouth as it hovered over me. It had three eyes, all where now focused on me as it pulled back, prepared to consume me in its mouth. I had to think quick I would be food for the giant beast. I looked over to my right. The hilt of the sword was laying right next to me and it was right in reach. I extended my arm and grabbed the hilt, pulling it up toward the monster. I thrust it into its face, jamming it in his mouth. It let out a loud wail. It wrapped its arm around its neck and gasped for air. He struggled a bit to the ground. I went closer to the beast, when it swung its arm at me one more time. I nearly dodged it and stepped back. I could see it get weaker as it finally gave one last swing, then went limp with no movement.
I went up to it slowly again to make sure it was dead. It twitched once more and then died. I reached into its mouth to recover the sword, which at this point was covered in drool and blood. I tried to whip it up before I set out again. I looked for my stuff and packed it all together again. I looked for the exit again and was quickly back on my way. Once I stepped out of the forest I could see the Vandal just beyond the horizon. The rest of the distance was not much to handle. I decided to run the rest of the way to get there and see if Mai was there.
As I approached the town, I could her people talking. Many of them stared at me as I walked in through the entrance.
"Another one from Bakinel, was he the only male to survive?" I could hear the people say.
"Someone help this one too, he seems to have a couple of injuries," one of them shouted. People came out and tried to tend to my wounds.
"No its ok, I don't need any help thanks. These are just some scratches, I'll be fine," I explained to them. They looked at me like I was crazy. But never the less they respected my wishes and backed away. "Has anyone else come from Bakinel seeking refuge?," I asked, many of them pointed to the town bar, "Eight heaven". I calmly walked to the bar as many of the people followed me in. I opened the door and looked around. There was a guy at the counter. I walked up to him and asked,
"hello, is there any refugee here that is under the name Mai?".
"Oh way yes there is, if your looking for her she is right over there in that corner sleeping I think," he said, "Oh and by the way, can I get your name son?"
"Yeah, Kanetoshi yagura," I told him. I walked over to the corner where he said that Mai was at. Sure enough there she was, laying there in the corner asleep. She looked so cute there in her blanket asleep. I moved over and sat down by her. I looked at her face and how she was sleeping. Its funny to see how much you love someone even if you are just watching them sleep. I scooted up next to her and put her head on my shoulder. I put my arm around her and leaned against her. I tried not to wake her up so I figured I would just sleep next to her for now. I can't wait to see her face when she knows I'm alive still. I wondered, though, what we where going to do tomorrow. If maybe we where still going to get married or not. And if maybe she knew anything about the old stories that dad told. "Oh well, I can ask her tomorrow. She is probably really tired like I am. Poor girl, I hope she didn't worry about me too much," I thought to myself. A tear came down my check and I fell asleep.
I leaped forward at him, thrusting the sword at him as hard as I could.
"Come on Cloud your faster than that. Your moving way too slow and sloppy," he explained to me. I tried to swing the sword downward, but as the sword hit the ground he had already moved.
