Tap, a squirellbabe , hopped down from the windowsill , after having stolen travel supplies of course. He rushed to greet Flipwing, a young sparrow. After silently handing Tap the rope and flint, the sparrow fluttered out to do her business. She hastily slit the rope holding a table ,on the wall ,back. It teetered for a second before diving into the Abbey Pond.
A tremendous splash alerted Doddle. Hurriedly he tolled a warning to Redwall. Instantly the Abbey
was flooded with alarmed creatures. Among them were Tap and Flipwing. No one noticed them exit by the south wall gate in the hustle and bustle. Tap and Flipwing cringed close to the shadows of the wall until they were safe in Mossflower.
A vermin band lounged in their hut. The leader, a fox, was enjoying tormenting his slave, an orphan pygmy shrew, with a willow cane whip. Lashing out with the whip he ordered him about.
"Fetch some grog, you half-wit, or I'll tan your hide." Slowly Zeghi dragged the cauldron towards Scet. Upon arrival he received a flogging and was tied a stake. This was just part of an average day for the shrew.
"Flip, what's that," Tap remarked, pointing at a log cabin by a river. "not know, wormbeasts might give wormfood to passby." "Lets check." Tap vanished in the trees, and Flipwing flew off in surveillance.
They returned breathless. "Vermin." "With a slave." Tap pulled out his leveret dagger. He quickly explained his plan to Flipwing.
