Infestation of the Dead

Match two of round one, Bonz against Weevil.  My thanks to Shinigami410 for being Bonz while I myself played as Weevil.  See the past chapters for the whole disclaimer telling about how I own nothing here and I'm not making any more money off this, just killing time.

Bakura entered the cafeteria, looking for Yugi and his other friends.  Even though he wasn't very hungry after his defeat by Kaiba, he still felt like being around friends.  Oddly enough, his dark side hadn't said a word since his loss.  This was worse in a way, because he knew the dark side was now just gathering energy.  "Hey Bakura, over here!" shouted Yugi from a far off table, waving him over to sit with him and Joey.  "Hey Yugi… I suppose you saw me get trounced by Kaiba.  I guess I'm not as good as I thought I was," mumbled Bakura, taking a seat.  "What?  Hey don't talk like that man, be proud.  You just had a bad draw.  You'll do beat in the next round.  You're still in it," Joey replied, trying to be morally supportive even though his mouth was stuffed with a combination of spaghetti on top of a slice of pizza.  Yugi nodded at this.  "Yeah, I mean when we played in the Battle City finals, I had to resort to using Slipher the Sky Dragon to win.  Had I not resorted to a God card, you'd have won.  You're a great duelist, just don't give up."  Bakura smiled, looking at his two friends.  Even though time and time again his evil spirit of the ring had done horrible things to them, they still stuck by him.  Maybe he wasn't out of the finals.

Weevil sat alone in his room, nearly tearing at his own hair.  He was going to have to play this game fair and square, or at least tournament rules wise he was.  As much as he loved insect cards, he recognized that after losing his Insect Queen to the Joey Wheeler, his deck had no power behind it.  That's when he took of his right shoe and pulled out a pocketknife, and cut open the heel of his shoe, pulling out a handful of hidden cards.  Duelists were only allowed to duel with what cards were in their deck when they entered.  But the didn't check the decks after they checked them on entry, so slipping the counterfeit copies of some of the strongest monster cards in creation into his deck would go unnoticed.  He had done the same for Espa Roba and Rex Raptor, almost insuring their spots in the finals.  Weevil grinned, slipping the cards into his deck.  "That zombie freak won't know what hit him."  With that he put on a pair of new shoes and got up, exiting his room, going up to the roof where he had been told to be.

After lunch, once again everyone entered the Video Screen room.  "Man, wonder where they're dueling.  That last spot was cool, but the bus thing held almost no change in the battle," mumbled Joey, as he and Yugi took their front row seats.  Tea and Mai came in together, sitting behind the two boys.  "I really don't know who to go for in this one.  Weevil is a total slime ball and Bonz isn't much better.  Both were rotten cheaters," muttered Mai.  It was then that Bakura joined them.  "Well, Bonz owes Yugi.  Had Yugi not defeated my dark side in the finals, Bonz and his gang would have been trapped in the Shadow Realm forever."  Yugi nodded.  He had quickly found out how much had really been riding on his match with Bakura.  By beating Bakura, not only had he gotten one step closer to saving the world, he had also freed his Grandpa and Bonz from the Shadow Realm.  To all their surprise, Mako Tsunami took a seat next to Joey, looking a bit unpleased.  "Yo Mako, what's up?  We haven't talked since our battle In Battle City.  Not sore are ya?"  Asked Joey, looking the strange teen up and down.  Mako shook his head.  "No, it's not that.  I'm not pleased with Underwood being here.  I've heard Bonz himself is no saint, but I have reason to believe Weevil is going to cheat.  Knowing him, it'll be something completely legal too," explained Mako, staring right at the screen.  "That's no surprise.  He cheated against Yugi and me both when we dueled him.  Heck, the little twerp actually took the Exodia cards from Yugi and tossed them overboard on our boat ride to Duelist Kingdom.   Jokes on him, because thanks to that, the former Japanese Champion became the first duelist eliminated from Duelist Kingdom," growled Joey, becoming angry just remembering all the stunts Weevil had pulled in the past.  "Hey guys, quiet!  The duels starting!"  The rest of the duelists had just entered,  Rex taking a seat next to Espa while Marik once again took a seat next to Yugi.  Rex whispered over to Espa, trying to stay out of earshot from the Judge and the others.  "Think he added those cards?"  Espa glanced around before whispering back.  "It was his idea, of course he did.  Let's see if they even help."

Weevil gritted his teeth, not believing his horrible luck.  He stood on his mark, staring into the total darkness of the dueling area.  The dueling spot that had been picked for them had been a burnt out warehouse, the place was bathed completely in shadows even in the middle of the day.  Of course Bonz had been happy as calm, walking to his mark, soon disappearing into the darkness.  The duel was supposed test their ability to deal with the unknown.  "The second match of the first round will be Weevil Underwood against Mr. Bonz.  Shuffle your decks and duel!" announced Zachary the judge, wearing a pair of night vision goggles.  Both duelists shuffled, drawing their first five cards.  "I won the coin toss, so I go first.  My zombies will crush you!" declared Bonz from the darkness of the field.  Weevil growled, clenching a fist, before pointing a finger towards where he thought Bonz was "Your zombies will be worm food!"

Bonz drew his sixth card. " My first move, I'll play Call of the Mummy!  Then, I'll play the monster card, Dragon Zombie in attack mode.  Then, to power him up, I play the field spell card, Wasteland, giving my zombie a two hundred-point attack boost.  Then I'll play a card face down then put this card face down in and end my turn.  Can you hear the grave calling for you already?"  Taunted Bonz, grinning.  Weevil growled, drawing his sixth card, hating Bonz's confidence. Weevil grinned and got ready to make his play.  "Here's a card you can appreciate, the spell card Gravekeeper's Servant.  Now every time you attack, you'll lose a card.  And now I'll play Change of Heart, and take control of your face down card!"  Bonz took a step back, as his card was transferred over to Weevil.  "But I have no use for you worthless zombie cards, so I'll send it to your graveyard to bring out my great insect, the Empress Mantis!"  With this, Bonz face down card's image disappeared, only to reveal the giant form of Weevil's Empress Mantis.  "Now my Empress Mantis, feed upon his Dragon Zombie!"  The large insect charged forward, slicing the Dragon Zombie in two with its scythe hands, destroying it.  Bonz's Life Point counter went down by four hundred, leaving him at 7600 and Weevil still at 8000.  Bonz grinned and laughed.  "I activate Michizure, using it to pull your bug to the grave also!"  After saying that, a pair of hands appeared under the Empress Mantis, dragging it out of sight.  Weevil gasped, not prepared for this, taking a step back.  "Th-that ends my turn."

Bonz grinned, drawing a card, able to see Weevil clearly.  Dueling in the darkness for as long as he had gave him the ability to see in the dark.  "Seems you left yourself wide open, and for that I play yet another Dragon Zombie in attack mode, and I'll have him attack your life points directly!"  The Dragon Zombie opened its jaws, and spit out a thick yellow cloud towards Weevil, causing him to choke and gasp at the awful smell, his life points decreasing by 1800, leaving him at 6200.  Weevil stood up and laughed, "I may have lost life points, but you lose a card!"  Bonz gritted his teeth, drawing a card and discarding it straight to the graveyard.  "That ends my turn."  Weevil drew a card and grinned.  He had drawn one of the powerful cards he had slipped into the deck.  "Now, cower before the might of the Gemini Elf!  Attack his zombie my elf!"  The Gemini Elf fired a beam of great energy, striking the zombie, turning it to ashes, costing Bonz 100 life points, leaving the score at 7500 to 6200.  Bonz gulped, drawing a card, knowing he didn't have a card that could over power the Gemini Elf yet.  His fear was confirmed at his card.  "I place this card face down in defense and end my turn."  Weevil laughed, knowing he had taken control of this duel.  He drew his card and grinned into the shadows.  "I play the mighty Neobug!  Now, Neobug attack his face down card!"  Bonz's card flipped over, revealing it to be another Spirit Reaper card.  The Neobug attacked… but the card wasn't destroyed.  "What is this?  You must be cheating!" exclaimed Weevil, shocked.  Bonz laughed from the darkness.  "Hardly.  That is my undying Spirit Reaper.  It cannot be destroyed by any monster!"  Weevil growled, feeling himself losing the upper hand.  "Then I end my turn."  Bonz drew another card, grinning.  This card couldn't win it for him, but it'd help.  "I play Exiled Force and I'll activate its after.  By sacrificing him, I can send a card of yours to the graveyard, and I chose your Gemini Elf!"  Weevil looked on with horror as both Exiled Force and Gemini Elf were pulled down out of sight.  "Once again the grave claims a monster of yours.  I end my turn," laughed Bonz.  Weevil glared into the darkness, wanting wipe off that smug little grin he knew Bonz had.  Weevil drew his next card.  "I play Mystical Space Typhoon and destroy your face down card!"  A swirling cloud appeared over Bonz, sucking his face down Call of the Haunted up and into the graveyard.  "Now I play the deadly Girochin Kuwagata in attack, and end my turn."  Bonz hissed, not happy with losing his greatest trap card.  "You'll pay for that.  I play the spell card Book of Life, bringing back my Dragon Zombie.  But it also has a nice effect of letting me remove a monster from your graveyard from the game, and that card is, Gemini Elf!  Now my zombie, attack his Girochin!"  Once again the Dragon Zombie spit out a cloud of yellow gas, the gas melting the bug into a pile of mush.  Bonz once again drew and put the card straight into the graveyard.  The score still standing was now 7500 to 6100.  Weevil growled loudly, losing his temper fast.  "I'll make you pay you rotten jerk!"  He yelled and drew.  Weevil grinned, looking at the card he had drawn.  "I play this card face down, and end my turn."  Bonz drew a card, and couldn't believe his luck.  "I sacrifice my Dragon Zombie, to summon the almighty king of ghosts, Pumpking The King of Ghosts!  Now Pumpking, attack his Neobug!"  Weevil laughed loudly, putting a hand up.  "Not so fast, reveal face down trap card, Gravity Bind!  Now all monsters level five and higher cannot attack."  Bonz watched in horror as suddenly all his monsters were pulled to the ground, pinned down by an unseen force of gravity, along with Weevil's.   Weevil grinned, drawing a card and once again feeling his power in the duel returning.  "I play Monster Reborn, to bring back your Exiled Force card, only to use its affect to send your Spirit Reaper to the grave with him!"  Suddenly, Exiled Force broke up from under the ground, grabbing onto the Spirit Reaper, and pulling it under the ground with it.  Bonz jumped back, losing his cool, suddenly fearing his chance in this duel.  "Now I play a card face down in defense and end my turn."  Weevil grinned, knowing he had shaken up Bonz.  Bonz drew, and placed a card face down in defense.  "That ends my turn."  Weevil still grinned, drawing, and doing the same thing then ending his turn.

Back at the Video Screen room, the others were rather upset.  "Man, what was Weevil thinking?  Now neither of them has any monsters that can attack.  How are they gonna win now?" yelled Joey.  Yugi thought for a second, before catching on.  "Weevil doesn't intend to wipe out Bonz's life points, he's planning on destroying his deck!  He's going to force Bonz to draw his entire deck before him and win that way."  Mai shook her head, sitting back.  "Talk about a loser way to win.  Not to mention a boring way."

Back in the darkness, Bonz was feeling less sure of himself.  With Gravity Bind down, he was completely pinned in place.  Even if he drew a card with a low enough level, it didn't have the attack strength to defeat his Neobug.  He was out of options.  Bonz drew once more, placing yet another monster in defense and ending his turn.  Weevil chuckled, watching his plan work.  "My my, we sure are drawing a lot of cards and getting nowhere.  Better hope you don't run out of cards.  Weevil drew another card.  "But, looks like things are going to get worse, for I reveal my monster, Needle Worm.  By turning him face up, you must get rid of five cards from your deck to the graveyard."  Bonz gasped in horror, as five cards were automatically drawn from his deck, which he discarded, seeing that the two cards he needed had just been lost, Heavy Storm and Harpies Feather Duster.  "Now I'll put yet another monster down in defense and end my turn."  Bonz drew and felt hope.  "I tribute my face down card and bring to the field my Shadow Ghoul, who gains a power boost for every monster in my graveyard.  He may not be able to attack, but he makes a nice wall.  I also reveal my Castle of Dark Illusion, powering up my Pumpking and Shadow Ghoul.  With that I end my turn."  Weevil chuckled, not even caring about the beefed up monsters facing him.  Weevil drew and shrugged.  "Nothing to do, so I end my turn."  Bonz drew a card, and did the same.  Weevil, sighing, almost becoming bored with his own plan.  "I place a monster face down, and end my turn."  Meanwhile, back at the Video Scree room, Marik had left.  Rex and Espa watched with little enthusiasm.  Joey had actually fallen asleep.  "This is the longest and most boring duel I have ever seen," muttered Mai.  Tea leaned forward closer to Yugi.  "Isn't there something Bonz can do to speed this up?"  Yugi shook his head.  "It doesn't seem like it.  Seems like we're going to be forced to sit back and watch Bonz draw until he's out of cards."

Bonz sighed, his spirits falling as he drew another card, and ended his turn.  This was going nowhere and if this is all they kept doing, he as going to lose.  Weevil grinned, drawing a card.  "Now, I place this card face down, but now I also flip another card face up.  Behold, yet another Needle Worm! I end my turn. Say goodbye to five more cards!"  Bonz sighed, taking his five cards and putting them in the graveyard.  Bonz drew another card, and got a faint glimmer of hope.  "I play, Swords of Revealing Light!  All cards will be revealed!"  With that, several bright shining swords landed on Weevil's side of the field, bathing the building with light.   Weevil's face down cards were revealed to be a Skilled Dark Magician, a Flying Kamakiri #2, and Swarm of Locusts.  Weevil chuckled at this.  "Why thank you.  Now your Wasteland card is gone thanks to my locusts!"  With that, the Swarm of Locusts jumped over, and devoured the image of Bonz's card.  They returned to their side of the field.  Weevil drew his next card.  "Due to my cards effect, I flip Swarm of Locusts back down and end my turn."   Bonz drew another card, sighing as he ended his turn again, starting to sweat badly.  Weevil kept laughing, drawing another card.  "Now, I flip over my Locusts and destroy your Swords.  I'll end my turn then."  Bonz drew again.  "I sacrifice my Castle of Dark Illusions and summon another Pumpking and end my turn."  Weevil drew once more, smirking.  "My Locusts will once again turn over and I'll end my turn."  Bonz drew once more and looked at the field, then at his deck, noticing it getting very thin.  "I play Pyramid Turtle in Attack and end my turn."  Weevil laughed loudly as he drew. "Give It up Bonz.   You have no chance of defeating a genius such as me!  To prove it, I'll end my turn right now!"  Bonz sighed, losing his faith, as he drew.  His eyes widened as he looked at his card, his spirit once again rising.  "YES!  Finally, this duel is mine.  I play Change of Heart, and take control of your Swarm of Locusts!"  Weevil cried out in shock, knowing full well what this meant.  "Noooo!  You can't!"  Bonz grinned, and nodded.  "Oh yes I can, and I will.  Reveal Swarm of Locusts.  Now, destroy his Gravity Bind!"  The insects swarmed on top of the image of Weevil's card, destroying it.  Once again, Bonz's monsters stood tall and powerful, no longer pinned down.  "Now, Locusts attack his Flying Kamakiri # 2!  Pyramid Turtle destroy his Needle Worm!  Pumpking attack and destroy his Magician and Shadow Ghoul munch his Neobug!"  With that the four monsters sprung from Bonz's side of the field, and crushed Weevil's monsters.  Weevil stepped back in horror, his life points falling to 4700.  "Now my final Pumpking, attack him directly!"  The large pumpkin of a monster whipped out its long tendril, slapping Weevil right in the chest, bringing him to his knees, his life points falling to 1400.  Bonz laughed, seeing Weevil fall to his knees.  "You've got one foot in the grave.  Now I play this face down card and end my turn."  The Swarm of Locusts returned to Weevil's side of field as he weakly got back to his feet, knowing all was lost.  He breathed heavily, drawing a card.  "I play this card face down, and turn my Locusts face down and end my turn."  Bonz laughed, drawing once more.  "Face it, you're the living dead now.  Pumpking, attack his face down Locusts, even if I must destroy my trap card."  Weevil grimaced as his card was destroyed, Bonz not even caring that his Trap was their final meal.  "Next my Shadow Ghoul will destroy your face down card!"  As the Shadow Ghoul struck the card, it was seen to be a Skull Mark Ladybug.  "Thanks to that card, I gain 1000 point of life," muttered Weevil as his Life Points jumped to 2400.  Bonz laughed at this.  "Not that it matter, go Pyramid Turtle and Pumpking, attack together and wipe out his life points!"  With that, Pumpking picked up Pyramid Turtle and flings it at Weevil.  The monster strikes into Weevil, sending him flying, as his life points plummet to zero.

Back at Kabia Corp.  The duelists stood up and left the room.  "Well, glad Bonz won, but I hope the rest of the duels won't be that boring," yawned Joey, rubbing his eyes.  "Tomorrow should be better.  It's Marik and against Rex Raptor.  We both know neither of them would take a laid back approach like Weevil," commented Yugi, the others nodding.  That evening's match would be interesting.
