Extinction of the Dinosaurs
Time for match three, Rex Raptor against Marik Ishtar. Once again I thank Shinigami who took on Marik's role too, myself also once again taking on the role of Rex. Once again I'll point out I own nothing here, I make no money off this, so DON'T SUE ME.
Rex gritted his teeth, not believing how rotten his luck could have been. Not only was he dueling a former psychopath, but also the duel site was just insane. Standing on a narrow platform around the spire of a skyscraper was the last place he wanted to be. The harness and straps holding him to the platform didn't much assure him either. The wind gusts were insane to the point it was a miracle that not a single card had been blown away. "The third match of the Championship First Round will be Rex Raptor against Marik Ishtar. Due to wind gusts, your decks have been already shuffled. Marik, having one the coin toss; your move will be first. Now, prepare to duel, may the best duelist emerge victorious." Exclaimed the current judge.
Marik grinned, still fully confident of his dueling abilities. His defeated evil personality had only dueled a fraction of the time he had. "For my first move, I place one card face down, then summon a bit of a reoccurring star in these duels, Gemini Elf in attack mode. I end my turn."
Rex cursed his horrible luck. First draw and Marik had all his legal monsters beaten. He was going to have to forget his usual rush forward and crush strategy and try something new. He drew his next card, and nearly jumped for joy, but was glad he didn't, it was a long fall. "Say goodbye to your Elf. I play the powerful Spell card, Dark Hole!" Marik's face showed no sign of distress of panic as a black hole appeared over the dueling area, sucking his Gemini Elf right up, taking it straight to the graveyard. Rex continued to sweat, still nervous. It seemed to him that Marik expected his Gemini Elf to be destroyed. Time to go defensive. "I play this monster face down in defense and one card face down and end my turn." Marik nodded, and drew a card. "Now, I'll clear your traps along with mine with Heavy Storm!" With that, a great gust of wind blow over both duelists, the holograms of their face down cards flipping up to reveal themselves to be Dust Tornado and Magic Jammer before blowing up, removed from the field and put in the graveyard. "Now I place a card face down, then play the mighty Spear Dragon in attack mode. Now my dragon, attack!" With that, a large holographic dragon with a sharp beak rushed forward, stabbing into the face down monster card. Rex grinned and started to laugh at Marik. "Ha! True I may lose life points, but now I can hurt you worse, for I reveal my Dice Jar! We each roll a dice and the highest roll inflicts five hundred times the roll damage to the person who rolled the lower numbers life points!" Marik's face still hid any form of emotion as the holographic image of a large dice appeared from him, then rolled forward, stopping on one. "Ha! This is going to be two easy. Go my dice!" yelled Rex, as his own holographic dice rolled forward, landing on five. "Ha! I may lose 1600 life points by your dragon, but I get to inflict 2500 damage directly to your life points!" Both duelists looked at their duel disks, watching the life points leave Marik with 5500 and Rex at 6400.
Rex was relieved to see his luck finally turning good. Not only was Marik now losing, his only monster was in defense, with a defense of zero. Rex drew and grinned. "Now I play one of the mightiest dinosaurs to walk the earth, I play my mighty Kabazauls! Now my dino, demolish his Spear Dragon!" Marik laughed as he watched the dinosaur rush forward. "Reveal trap card, Mirror Force!" Just as the dinosaur struck the Spear Dragon, it exploded. Rex's eyes widened, realizing he was wide open now. "I-I'm done with my turn." Marik drew his card and looked at Rex, the wind blowing over both duelists stronger now as evening began to approach. "That's not the only thing done for. I put my dragon back in attack, and play fearsome Exiled Force, and I'll equip it with the Axe of Despair, giving it an extra 1000 attack points. Now my monsters attack him directly!" Rex let out a choked gasp of pain as both monsters struck him hard, plummeting his life points to 2500. "With that, I end my turn." Rex sighed, drawing another card. "I play the spell card, Mystical Space Typhoon to destroy your axe!" A white hole opened above the Axe of Despair, pulling it off the field. "I now play yet another Kabazauls, and attack your dragon!" This time to Rex's relief, as his dinosaur struck Spear Dragon, it shattered into a million pixels, destroyed finally. "I end my turn."
Marik drew and couldn't help but chuckle. "This game is all but over, as I now play Raigeki!" Suddenly the clouds darkened as a giant bolt of thunder struck Kabazauls, reducing him to ashes. "To back up my Exiled Force, I play Sangan in attack, and have both monsters attack your life points directly yet again!" This attack nearly brought Rex to his knees, the only thing keeping him from falling were the harnesses around him. "Face it Raptor, with only 500 life points left, you're soon to be extinct." Rex growled, standing up. He'd been dueling for a long time now, and he was no stranger to defeat. He knew this match was lost, but if he was going down, he was going down fighting. He drew a card, and grinned at his luck. "I play Beta the Magnet warrior! Beta, smash his Exiled Force!" The tiny magnetic creature launched forward, crashing through the members of the Exiled Force, destroying them. Marik's life points dropped to 4800. "I end my turn." Marik drew his next card and almost growled in frustration. "I play one monster face down and end my turn." Rex grinned and drew his next card. He had Marik on the defense for now, but it wouldn't last long, so he needed to get defensive now. "I sacrifice my Beta to play a monster face down and end my turn." Marik raised a brow, slightly interested. Rex had the upper hand, yet didn't attack. He must have a powerful monster face down, but what? Marik drew his card, and could tell it wouldn't help him yet. "I end my turn."
Rex was hoping Marik would attack, but doing nothing was just as good. Rex drew and ended his own turn. Marik drew once more, and grinned. This card could help. "I play Graceful Charity, drawing three cards, but discarding two. Now I play another Spear Dragon in attack, then have it attack your face down card!" The spear-tipped dragon rushed forward at a high speed. Rex laughed, flipping the card over, a large wall of stone suddenly appearing. Marik eyes widen in horror as his Spear Dragon crashed into the wall of stone, simply bouncing back. "I take it your dragon didn't much like running into my Labyrinth Wall. Nor did your life points." Marik just stared into Rex's eyes, as his own life points dropped to 3700. "Then I end my turn." Rex drew his next card, knowing he needed to get an attacker on the field. "I play my Mammoth Graveyard, attacking your Spear Dragon." The giant animated pile of mammoth bones lunged forward, destroying the Spear Dragon. "I end my turn."
Marik cursed himself inwardly. He was losing control of this duel. He drew his next card and grinned, knowing full well this was what it was going to take to win this duel. "I play one monster face down, and end my turn." Rex started laughing loudly. "You'll regret that. For not that I've drawn, I sacrifice my Labyrinth Wall and Mammoth Graveyard to bring out my ultimate terror of the stone age, Black Tyranno!" With that, a both monsters were destroyed, in their place appearing a giant black dinosaur. "And due to his special effect, since all you have on the field are defense monsters, it can attack your life points directly and then I'll end my turn!" Marik growled as the large dinosaur spit out a ball of flames, getting struck in the chest, his life points falling to 1100. Marik stood his ground, grinning. "You had a good match Rex, but now its over, for I flip up my face down monster, Fiber Jar! It effect has us puts all our cards back in our deck, shuffle, and draw a new hand." Both did so, Rex sweating greatly, with only 500 life points left, he was done for. Marik laughed and played his final card, Witch of the Black Forest. The last thing Rex remembered was seeing the monster card rush towards him. Then, it all went black. Marik had won the duel.
