Chapter 10: Not Again

Sally lay on the couch, groaning. "We got our butts kicked." She said with a sigh.

Betsy walked into the room and handed her two pain killers and a glass of water. "Here. Take these." She herself sat down on the couch, looking at the others slouching around. "Come on, guys. We did alright. We took down five out of eight. That's not too bad."

"Yeah right." Ali said. She looked away and sighed. "It's not like I can do much. Sarah's right. Light powers suck."

"Hey, I was only trying to get on your nerves. Their alright. It's my power that isn't that great. I might as well just hit people with sticks."

"Well my power sucks even more then both of yours put together. Mines completely defensive. I wish I could throw something like... balls of fire!" All three girls sighed again and continued slouching around, depressed.

"Stop being silly, Everyones power is great. You just need to use it right." Betsy tried to lighten their spirits.

"Easy for you to say." Sarah complained. "You have a cool power."

"Yeah, that purple blade thingy. You can totally knock people out with it." Ali added.

Betsy rolled her eyes and shook her head. "Okay well if you want to be pathetic losers, just sit here and have a cry about what you don't have. When I could be helping you develop your powers." She turnt to leave.

"Wait." Sally said, sitting up. "You mean there's more to our powers?"

"Sure." Betsy said with a shrug.

"Like...?"

Betsy pushed Sally's legs off the chair and sat down next to her. "Like... yours. Did you know your psionic too?"

"Psionic?" Sally said, screwing up her nose. "I don't even know what that is."

Betsy sighed and tried to figure out how to explain it to her. "You can make walls, right?" She watched her nod to confirm this and continued. "Well you can do that with your mind too. You can make telepathic walls."

"Meaning?"

"Meaning you can block out telepathy."

"Really? Sally asked, wide eyed. She slowly smiled and looked at Betsy. "So you can't read my mind."

"Nope. Only if you let me. Oh. I could always get past with this." She allowed her psy-blade to appear and showed it to her. "But think of it this way, you'll be able to block yourself from Phoenix. Even Professor Xavier, if you really try although I doubt you'll be able to last for long."

"And you Sarah, you can plate yourself with bone." She continued.

"Duh." Sarah said rolling her eyes.

"But bet you didn't know it's strong enough to make sure Cyclops lasers won't hurt you, or thick enough so Wolverine's claws can't slice through.

"Uh... that sounds handy." She said, looking slightly taken aback.

"And Ali." She said, looking at the young blonde. "Lights can be hypnotic. I want you to work on that."

"Hypnotic?" Ali repeated but shrugged. "Yeah, sure sounds fun." She jumped up with a jolt when the door knocked. "Um. I'll get it."

Lance stood outside on the patio with the five members of the Brotherhood standing on the lawn, looking bored. They had been told by Peitro that Magneto had picked up something about new mutants in town. He had given strict orders they were to recruit them, or else.

After they had been given the address, they decided they'd just walk up and ask them to join. They didn't really think past there and Lance felt kind of awkward right now just standing outside the door, hands in his pockets.

The door swung open and a familiar blonde poked her head out. "Hi. Um. Do you want Sarah or Sally?" She asked, eyeing the Brotherhood standing on the lawn.

Lance was a little taken aback by her and frowned. This was Sarah's friend, he remembered. "Uh, actually.." He looked down at the piece of paper in his hand to check if had been given the right address. There was no way either Sarah or Sally were mutants. Was there?

"We were sent here to recruit mutants." He said, shifting his weight nervously. He cleared his throat. "Is there... any mutants here?"

Ali looked just as shocked and opened her mouth, closed it then opened it again. "Just a sec." Closing the door he heard muffled voices sounding as if they were arguing. The door opened again and Ali smiled nervously out at him. "Nope. No mutants here." She said in a strained voice and moved to close the door.

Lance narrowed his eyes and quickly shoved his foot in the door to stop it from closing all the way and pushed his way in, shoving Ali to the side.

"Hey!" She said, crossing her arms and running in front of him to block his way. "What do you think your doing."

He opened his mouth to reply but stopped when he noticed her hands glowing. His brows rising, he stepped back slightly. Following his gaze, Ali noticed her hands and shoved them behind her back, smiling nervously. "Oh. Skin condition."

"Yeah, sure." Lance snorted, smirking at her. "You're a mutant aren't you?"

She frowned and shook her head but it slowly turnt into a nod as she bit her lip. What was the point of hiding it. Maybe she could make him go away by admitting.

"Hey, it's alright." He said with a smile. "I'm a mutant too."

She opened her mouth to say I know but quickly closed it deciding it wouldn't be too smart to admit that part. Grabbing his wrist, she walked out of the house pulling him with her. Closing the door, she leant against and sighed. "Okay. I'm a mutant. What do you want?"

"Wow." Lance said, rubbing the back of his neck. "Who would have guessed Sarah's housemate would be one." Shrugging, he indicated to the rest of the Brotherhood who waved back slightly. "We're meant to recruit you."

"Recruit me?" Ali repeated and struggled not to laugh but failed. "Why would you want to recruit me?"

"Excuse me?" Lance said, frowning. "Well excuse me, Miss I'm too good for the Brotherhood."

"No! That's not what I meant." Ali quickly said, not failing to notice his annoyance. "I mean, I'm just not that powerful. You know?"

"Well Mags said that he sensed a lot of mutant activity here. Said it seemed strong." Eyeing the door, Lance continued, scratching his head. "So unless there are any other mutants here..."

"Nope, no other mutants here. Only me." Ali said nervously.

"Ali, is everything alright?" Betsy asked, stepping out and frowning when she noticed the Brotherhood. "What do they want." She blinked as she realised Pietro was standing in front of her.

"Hi Bets." He said with a smile.

"Um. Hi." She replied, swallowing. They were revealing their powers. That wasn't a good thing.

"Did you know Ali was a mutant?" Pietro asked, indicating to her with his thumb. "We're recruiting her. You don't mind do you?"

"Hey wait!" Ali said firmly. "No ones recruiting anybody."

"Yeah, she's already on a team." Betsy said with a snort.

"Who's team?" Lance asked, frowning. Probably Xmen. Great.

"Mine." Betsy said simply, folding her arms in front of her chest. The Xmen already knew about them being mutants, what was the point of hiding it?

"You're a mutant too?" Pietro asked, looking a little shocked.

"We all are." Sarah said, walking out of the house with Sally.

"Sarah?" Wanda asked, blinking. "Why didn't you tell me you were a mutant?"

"Why didn't you tell me you were?" Sarah pointed out."

Tabby and Sally were already standing together, chattering away. "So, you're a mutant." Tabby said, grinning. What can you do?"

"Make shields." Sally said, shrugging. "It doesn't sound much, but it's okay."

"Yeah?" Tabby said. "I make bombs."

"I know." Sally said, nodding.

"You do?" Tabby asked slowly. "How do you know that?"

"I-" Sally was cut off by Betsy

"She knows because that's what we've been doing. Gathering information on both the Brotherhood and the Xmen."

Wanda frowned at Sarah who backed away a little. "So you were only pretending to hang out with us?" She flushed a red, obviously angry and threw a hex bolt at Sarah. "Faker!"

"Yikes!" Sarah yelped being thrown up against the wall of the house and crumpling to the ground.

"Yeah, they've been using us. We're through being used!" Todd shouted, spitting a glob of slime at Betsy who ducked and watched as it hit the side of the house with a splat.

"Wait!" She said, holding her hands up. "We don't want to fight!" She didn't want them to trash the house.

"Well too bad." Freddy said, swinging at her. She dodged again and did a few backwards handsprings, emitting her psi-blade and flipped forward easily slamming into Freddy's mind. He slumped to the ground, and she stepped away from him, psi-blade still burning bright purple. "I don't want to do this but I can't have you invading our home."

Ali formed a ball of light and lunged it at Wanda. "Yeah! What she said!" Wanda simply flicked her hand and it faded before it even got near her.

"Whoops." Was all Ali could get out before she found herself hitting the side of the house as well. "Oh gross." She growled as she realised she had hit Todd's slime.

Sarah got to her feet and frowned. "Why are you doing this?" She asked, remembering what Betsy said and plating herself in hard armour.

Lance narrowed his eyes and shook his head. "Come on guys, lets just leave them." He began to walk away then paused looking at Freddy then at Betsy. "Uh... could you?"

Betsy nodded and concentrated allowing Freddy to regain consciousness. She sighed as she watched the Brotherhood walk away.

"Is it just me, or does everyone feel a little guilty?"
