Chapter 12: More To It
********
Betsy hovered outside the speaker com nervously, her hands tightly wrapped around the cold metal of the iron gates and peering through the gaps up at the Xmansion. Licking her lips, she looked at the system and then quickly pushed her finger onto the button. She leant in and cleared her throat professionally.
"Hello? Is there anyone here? Please, I need help."
She stood for a short while before she sighed in defeat and turnt to walk away. A small buzzing noise stopped her in her tracks. A hesitant voice spoke back.
"Betsy? What are you doing here? You have some nerve-"
"Scott! Just listen-" She pounced back beside it, clinging to the small box as if it were her life-support.
"No, you listen. You used us, Betsy. You used me. Don't you feel anything at all? Haven't you hurt everyone enough?"
She bit her lip, her eyes watering. "This isn't about that. It's about... my friends. They were taken."
There was a pause and then, "Taken?"
"By a... thing." Her voice rose into a slight panic. "Sarah and I are the only ones left. You have to help us."
"Fine. You'd better come in."
There was another buzzing noise and a click as the gate began to automatically open.
"Thanks Scott." Betsy murmured then walked back to her car, ducking into it and began to drive up the long driveway.

"Oh, come on guys." Sarah argued, thumping on the front door of the Brotherhood. "I need you!"
"Go away!" A mumbled voice yelled back.
Sarah sighed. "Pietro, this isn't still about Betsy, is it?"
"No!" He snapped back.
She rolled her eyes and then pursed her lips together. "I'm coming in whether you like it or not. I'm going to knock this door down! I mean it!" She drew a breath and then began counting out loud as she backed away slightly. "Three... Two... ONE!" She ran at the door, plating herself in bone armour as she did so.
Just as she was about to contact it, it opened and she flew inside and tripped over landing face down on the floor. "Ouch. Carpet burn." She groaned, standing up slowly and rubbing her exposed legs.
"Serves ya right." Tabitha quipped, closing the door and then folding her arms and scowling at her. "What do you want?"
"Yeah!" Pietro added, speeding up next to her and striking a similar pose. Tabitha gave Pietro a funny look but without saying anything quickly returned to her stony posture.
"We'd all like to know that, traitor." Todd added, hopping into the hall and glaring at her.
"Come on guys." Sarah coaxed, forcing a smile. "It's me. I'm just the same as I am before."
"Sure you are." Pietro remarked sarcastically.
Sighing, she rolled her eyes and then shook her head. "Okay. I'm not going to beat around the bush." She continued a little reluctantly. "I need your... help."
Tabitha raised a brow but said nothing. "Go on." Todd said, standing next to Pietro and Tabitha.
"Well... it was a sentinel. It burst in and KABOOM took down the house. Next thing you know Sally and Ali are gone." Sarah burst out, failing her arms around, eyes wide.
"Gone?" Tabitha repeated. A little shocked at the news.
"Well.. Why should we help you?" Todd asked sceptically after a moment of silence.
"Because-"
"Because Wanda and Lance have gone too." Fred said, bursting in at the last minute, doubling over and panting.
"My God. Fred. Are you Okay?" Pietro asked, next to him in a flash. Everyone took a minute to translate what he said but Tabitha reacted first with a sigh. "With our fearless leader gone, I guess that makes me second in command."
"What?" The three boys snapped simultaneously.
"Says who?" Fred asked, crossing his arms.
"Because I'm smarter then all you three thickheads put together." Tabitha explained casually, walking out the door. "Hurry up Sarah, before I change my mind."
Sarah looked at the others and shrugged, following her out. The three boys swapped looks then meekly trailed behind.

"Ali's what?!?" Kitty exclaimed, phasing out from under the table she was hiding beneath.
Betsy and Scott jumped, swinging around to glare at her but Xavier looked less surprised. Or at least he wasn't surprised that at least one of the students were eavesdropping.
"Gone." Betsy remarked dryly, folding her arms. "What was that thing you described it as, Professor?" She added.
"A sentinel." Scott interrupted impatiently. "And why should we care if a couple of your team-mates disappeared? Your the enemy as far as I'm concerned."
Betsy looked hurt but quickly recovered and opened her mouth to respond to him, cheeks flaming with fury. But luckily before she could get any words out, Kurt teleported into the room in a puff of brimstone. Everyone in the room coughed but Kurt quickly began talking, not waiting for them to recover or even apologising.
"Professor, it's Jean and Rogue."
"Vhat about them?" Xavier asked, concerned.
"Ve vere valking back from school... it vas a sentinel. Bobby's in the infirmary."
"Is he alright?" Kitty asked, surprised.
"He'll survive, but Professor, Jean and-"
"Yes." Xavier said, snapping into action. "Scott, get Logan and Storm. Take Betsy and find out where they've taken them. I have a feeling there might be more to this than random kidnappings."
