When she came back from her one night of freedom, he was waiting for her
and he hadn't moved from the position she left him the day before.
She was afraid he would notice something different, that he could smell the
scent of another man.
"Hi honey, you're finally back. I thought you would never come back"
And she wished so bad she could be as happy to see him as he was to see her
but instead the only thing she could mumble was a simple hello.
He asked her how her friend was but she didn't know what to say.
He kissed her and she let him, they made love to 'celebrate'her return and
she agreed, calling on another man, still thinking about the night before.
When everything was so amazing and it seemed like nothing in the world
could hurt her, there was only the mystery man and her.
But waking up the next morning she knew she had to leave and so she did,
she brought herself back into her old life, the one where she lived like a
prisenor and the one where she somehow felt alone time and time again. She
was surrounded by so many people and still she was always alone. Not having
the one thing that she needed. And it wasn't like the mystery was what she
needed, it was what he gave to her.
When a year passed by a lot of things had changed, they broke up a couple
of times and she felt liberated. But he came crawling back and she felt
sorry for him so she took him back, over and over again.
The mystery man had almost faded but the feeling she once felt always
stayed with her, it reminded her of what she was missing in her life.
Everytime she made love to her man she thought of what she once had felt
and how much she longed to feel his touch one more time.
She did sneak out every once in a while hoping she would see him again,
hoping that she would relive that night.
But that night never came and after a while she lost hope and faced the
fact that their meeting was only once and it would never ever return.
The mystery man lived his life just like he used to, he kept hoping to meet
the beautiful stranger again, to see her standing beside the road and to
taste her lips one more time. But she was never there.
He passed the place where he met her almost everytime when he had the
opportunity and when his girlfriend was with him she always asked him why
he took the long road but he always made up an excuse.
She never bothered to ask further and she let it rest. The fights they had
became worse everytime they had one, this time it was mostly his fault. He
just couldn't forget about the beautiful stranger.
But like he said before, his girlfriend is an addiction and he came
crawling back over and over again, not just because she is an addiction but
mostly because this way his mind wouldn't wonder back to the stranger he
met a long time ago.
A year passed and her touch and image started to fade, he and his
girlfriend were living together now and he couldn't believe he actually
moved to the big city once again.
Maybe he wasn't such a small town person after all.
When the stranger started to fade, the fights became less and at one point
he just asked her to live together and she started planning right away.
She called her family to tell everybody she finally found the man of her
life and that they were living together, she practically forced him to call
his own family and tell them the same.
So just to please her he did what she asked him, he called his family and
told them he was living together.
He started with his mother who he hadn't talked to in several years and
then he called his uncle.
On the other side of the country the woman was living her life just like
everybody expected and she got used to it. It was just one big routine, she
got up, made breakfast, got to work, ate her lunch at the diner, got back
to work, made dinner when she got home and then she and her man would watch
a football game or some other sport game that was on.
Everybody told her where to go, who she needs to be, what she needs to need
and when she needs to leave, but everything inside of her knew there's so
much more than empty conversations filled with empty words.
It was this one afternoon that changed her life in an instant, she was
going to eat her lunch in the diner of her mother's fiancee.
He got some strange kind of smile on his face and her mother asked what was
going on.
He told us his nephew was arriving today so he could attend the wedding, he
hadn't talked to him in a couple of years but he called him last night to
tell him was living together with his girlfriend.
She could see her 'stepfather'was happy with the fact he talked to him.
"When are you picking him up from the airport?"
"I don't know, I don't have exactly much time"
And then like some kind of strange force made her too she told him she
would pick him up and he agreed, being grateful his nephew wouldn't stand
on the airport waiting for a cab to arrive.
The minute she offered she started to regret, she would have to drive all
day to pick up a person she didn't know, then she would have to drive all
the way back.
But then she looked on the bright side and realized she didn't have to
spend another night watching a basketball game.
When she arrived at the airport later that night she was practically too
tired to actually drive the whole way back but it wasn't like she had a
choice.
When the plane landed she stood there waiting for a stranger, but when she
saw him a wave of emotions washed over her and she stood there facing the
mystery man she let go, he felt exactly the same and they stood there
facing each other only speaking the words:
"It's You"
