Oliver's Revenge
By: Nakeru
Seeing Him
Everyone could see Ryan through the window. They could barely recognize him from the beating from Oliver. The Nurse pushed the door open and began to walk in. Only Marissa could walk in right away do to the shock of the condition Ryan was in.
"Oh, Ryan…" said Marissa quietly kneeling down by his side.
"You must understand that he is not suspected to survive the night," the nurse said.
Marissa didn't respond to the nurse's statement. She just ran her hand through Ryan's hair and kissed his bruised cheek softly. "I'm so sorry, Ryan."
After the shock wore off everyone else joined Marissa. Sandy was holding Kirsten, trying to prevent her from crying. Luke was standing behind Marissa, his hand on her shoulder. Summer and Seth just stood there… confused and lost in the whole matter.
"How long till we can take him home?" asked Sandy quietly.
"If he survives the night," the nurse replied. "A few days. We've done all we can here… there isn't much else we can do. The rest is on him."
Marissa grabbed Ryan's hand and rested her cheek on it. A tear ran down her face to his palm. He shifted in his medical induced sleep.
"He is also on medication to help him sleep," the nursed announced.
"What for?" asked Kirsten.
"During the operation and in the emergency room," the nurse started, "he kept having a nightmare… he kept apologizing to Marissa. He continuously called out for her."
Everyone looked at Marissa. By this time she was sobbing into the bed Ryan was laying on. She couldn't believe that the whole time he was here he had been apologizing to her! It made her feel so responsible.
"I'll leave you alone now," said the nurse. She walked off silently.
"He'll be alright, Marissa," Sandy said. "He lived in Chino, he's lived through worse. I'm sure of it."
Marissa didn't move, she just kept crying into the bed.
All of the sudden Ryan began to talk in his sleep again.
"… the hell…Oliver… you're… hospital…"
"Seth, get the police officer!" Sandy ordered sternly.
"…you're only… hurt Marissa…you know that…"
Seth returned with the officer. He pulled out a tape recorder and hit record.
"you won't stab me… not with a police officer near the car… you wouldn't…."
At that point Marissa lifted her head and ran her hand through Ryan's hair again. She rested her cheek right above his ear and whispered, "It's alright, Ryan. I'm here now, you're going to be alright."
At the sound of her voice, Ryan began to relax. He started breathing easier, and his heart began to beat normally. Everyone sighed in relief that all his vitals were slowing down to "normal".
"I'm going to stay," Marissa announced.
"Hunny," Kirsten started. "You need so sleep. You should go home, or at least stay with us for the night."
"Everyone, call your parents so that they know you're staying at our house," Sandy told them. "If Oliver is lose, then he may come after all of you."
Seth handed his cell to Luke, and Summer pulled out hers. The only one that didn't was Marissa.
"Kirsten knelt down beside her, "You need to come with us, Hunny."
"I stay with Ryan," said Marissa sternly. "I can't leave him."
"Why?" Kirsten asked.
"He was on his way to see me," said Marissa. "The only way Oliver met anyone was me. Ryan was trying to see me, that's what caused him to get into the car. I'm the reason that caused Ryan to get stabbed and beaten. I won't leave him."
"Coop," Summer said as she closed her phone.
"I'm serious," said Marissa. "There is a cop outside. I'll be fine. I need to be here if something happens to him."
Kirsten and Sandy looked at each other for a moment. They understood why Marissa wanted to stay, but if Oliver could sneak into the car and hurt Ryan, they were sure he could sneak into the ICU.
Sandy finally spoke up, "Alright. Marissa, you can stay. If anything happens, call. Call when you get up in the morning. We need to know if you're alright."
"I will Sandy," Marissa said quietly.
Kirsten got up and gave Marissa a big hug. Summer and Seth followed with one too. Luke gave her a small one. Everyone said their goodbyes to Ryan and gave Marissa one last lecture before they left. Then they were gone.
"Marissa…" Ryan said in his sleep once again. "I…love…you."
Marissa just leaned over and kissed his forehead. "I love you too, Ryan." A tear strolled down her cheek.
The night went by slowly. When Marissa woke up in the morning… Ryan wasn't to be found in the room. She ran down to the nurse's station and franticly asked. "Where is Ryan!?!"
