"Looks like he'll make it." Someone said. "Dim the light, I think he's trying to wake up." "Trying is the right word. I put enough anesthetic in him to knock out Rod Stewart." Female voices; nothing but women! If he were Wufei, this would be a bad thing. But he wasn't Wufei, so this was a very good thing. "Don't make fun of him! I like him!" "Did I make fun of him? No, I made fun of his habits. There is a slight difference, believe it or not." "Technicalities... my kind of girl." He said weakly. "He has an awful sense of humor." "Only if you're stuffy and boring and in love with Rod Stewart." "I AM NOT!" someone yelled back. Duo couldn't hang on any longer; he would let the girls argue in private...

Footsteps and voices flowed through the room like specters for what seemed like eternity. Sometimes they were arguing, sometimes singing, sometimes just talking. It wasn't too bad, considering he had no idea what any of them looked like; just their voices. Kali had a soft voice, and like Rod Stewart's music. Reggie laughed a lot, and teased everyone about everything. Ronnie sang beautifully, and was usually butting heads with Reggie. And Ami seemed shy, or nervous from the tone of her voice. That was all he knew. Now if Reggie would take of the bandages, he could at least see whom to thank. Someone walked in. Duo had also learned what kind of tread each girl had. "Hey Reggie." "Wuzzup? Ready to see light for the first time in a month?" "Yes! Why'd you tape me up better than King Tut?" "The flying shrapnel from your cockpit damaged some of the tissue around your eyes, so we did a little surgery and corrected most of it. Your laugh lines will be deeper, but that's about it for scarring" Gentle hands grasped the bandage and began slowly unwinding it. "And may I say you have hair to die for." She stroked it here and there. "Who's we? Kali and Ronnie can't stand the sight of blood anymore than they have to, and I didn't hear Ami." "It was Ami, but I had to put you under. It's very painful to do surgery on sensitive flesh or where it isn't thick." She said, handing him a mirror. "If you don't like what we did, we can always go back in and work more." He looked in, fingering the thin, white scars that branched from his eyes. "Not bad." He frowned. Oh well; it's not like anyone cared to look at his eyes long enough to notice something like this... or anything else. "What? Too scared?" he could finally put a face to the name! Reggie had snow-white hair down to her waist, silver eyes, pale skin, and pink lips that didn't seem all that out of place and all the more kissable. "Whoa." "Sensory overload." She laughed. He had forgotten to mention how nice it was to hear. "If you think this is bad," she picked up a curl, "you should see the others. Ami has blue hair, Kali has so- black- it- looks- kind of- purple, and Ronnie's is whatever color the week determines. When you came it was orange, but I think its fuchsia now. I'm not sure." She laughed, and wrapped an arm around his waist. "We helped you with some Jane Fonda exercises," Duo made a face. She ignored him. "to warm up your legs, but you haven't stood or walked on them for nearly three months. You'll need some help getting around." She hefted him up. Reggie wasn't too much shorter than him, perhaps an inch and a half or so. He leaned heavily to the left, on her. Not intentionally believe it or not. Duo frowned again. "Stop frowning, you're much cuter when you smile." Reggie nudged him. " Your right leg was shattered pretty badly. There's a metal pin in your knee, which we'll have to remove later, and the rest of the leg had to be slowly put together, resetting and re-breaking everything that knitted oddly. Not too bad if I do say so myself." She gestured with her free hand before grabbing the one Duo had draped over her shoulder. He looked. No unsightly lumps, no bulges. She and Ami knew what they were doing. "So when do I get to see the others? I wanna' thank Ami, and I gotta see Ronnie's hair." He grinned, the suave and debonair guy he was. Reggie rolled her eyes. "Whatever. Stop trying to flirt and limp onward." He raised an eyebrow. "What's your full name? Don't tell me your dad wanted a son so bad he named you Reginald?" "Yes, but he opted for the female version, which is Regina. But I was raised almost like the son he never had. Why do you think I wander around in the pouring rain looking for guys who can't crash properly?" He groaned. "That was not my fault!" "Right, you took a wrong turn at that last air pocket." She said sarcastically. "No, she-devil with the acid tongue, I was shot down by a cheap blast from a Mercurius." He retorted. "Hey, no slinging insults unless you can take the retaliation." She warned him, leading him to the living room. "Guess who decided to get off his lazy ass?" she announced. "Hey Duo! You're up!" Ronnie cried. Duo did a double take, and eased onto the couch next to her. Ronnie's hair was short and choppy, and bright pink. Now why was he thinking of Pink's There You Go, I wonder, I wonder? Kali narrowed her eyes. She was a slight, Oriental girl, obviously full of attitude and itching to inflict it on someone. "You know you'd be perfect for Wufei?" he asked her. Her almond eyes widened, then narrowed again. "Isn't he married to Sally Po?" "Not anymore. She divorced him for-" Ami spoke up. "If you say younger man, I'll scream." She promised. He bowed his head, grinning. "No, actually she dumped him for a guy older than her." He laughed. Regina- Reggie groaned. "What some women throw away." She sighed. "What is one woman's ex is another woman's love slave!" Pink –I mean- Ronnie declared. Ami groaned. "I don't think you have that quite right." "So? It still works!" Duo laughed. It wouldn't be so bad, staying here until he and DeathScythe were repaired. This wouldn't be bad at all...

He lounged on the sofa, playing chess with Ami. She and Regina- Reggie (he kept doing that... honestly her feminine name fit her better than the tomboy name, despite the fact that she refused to wear make up and her daily ensemble was jeans, t-shirt, sneakers) had removed the pin, and he was under strict orders not to move on his own. Duo wasn't sure if Reggie's fussing was good or bad. On one hand, her worrying over him meant she liked him at least enough to care; on the other hand it was a pain in the ass because he wasn't to fond of asking for- "Checkmate." Ami said quietly. Help. Duo scowled. "I'm beginning to see a pattern here." Ronnie peeked over his shoulder. "What, that you don't know when to give up?" she asked. He smacked the back of her still pink head. "Very funny." Ami giggled, Ronnie pouted. "You're violent." "No, he's lousy at forced landings, but he's not violent." Kali joked. Duo groaned. "Are any of you who tease me going to let me forget the fact that I crashed my friggin' suit?" "No." Kali said. "Nope." Ronnie added. "Not unless you do something better to be teased about." Reggie had appeared from the garage, wiping grease of her hands and grinning. "And may I say, DeathScythe is looking remarkably excellent." "You look like the cat that got laid all night long." Duo smiled at her. "That's not right!" Ami said, taking a rook. "It still works." He took a pawn. "That's my line!" Ronnie moved a piece, and captured a knight. "You need all the help you can get." She said. He bowed his head. "I haven't been beaten this badly since I played Trowa." He groaned. "Then you shouldn't play with Trowa or Ami." Ronnie said, watching and subtly pointing. "Trying to help him cheat is not going to work." Ami said. "Check." He frantically moved his king. She followed. "Check mate." Reggie laughed, and kneeled down next to him. "Please tell me you play strip poker this badly too!" she laughed. "You wish." "No, Ronnie does." "I wish any hottie with a nice bod did." She pointed out. The phone rang, and Kali jumped up to get it. Reggie nudged Ami. "Let me teach him how to play." She laughed. Duo winced. "Is she as good as her?" he asked Ronnie. She made a face. "They take turns winning games; that's how good they both are." Duo gulped. "Here, just take my king now." Reggie pouted; man was she cute when she pouted. Her silver eyes got all big and her mouth just turned all sorts of cute directions. It got to him every time. "That wouldn't be fair, now would it?" "No, just beat me already, would you?" he asked. "Fine, be a spoil sport. Can't play chess, can't crash a suit properly..." she grinned. "Hey!" Kali interrupted the fight before it could get good. "That was Hiiro. He says we've stalled long enough and that he and the others are coming down here to take him with or without our cooperation." Reggie frowned. She was also cute when she was pissed. "Let them come. I'll talk to Quatre; he's the sensible one." Duo raised a hand, interrupting. "Would you guys chill? It's not that big a deal." he said. Reggie smirked. "You had that pin taken out two days ago; but before that you had fractures, broken leg, broken arm, broken fingers, broken rib, bruised ribs, damage to the eyes, and some head wounds. Now to any normal person it would seem that you aren't in the best condition to travel." "And?" he asked. "Oh right, I forgot I was talking to the guy who can't crash a suit right." She teased. Ami blocked him before he could dive across the board to 'choke' her out. "Okay you two, save it for when he can fight back." "No way. Ronnie'll tell my weakness and then it's all over." "Really? And what would that be?" he asked, raising an eyebrow. "She's ticklish!" Ronnie yelled. "Oh thanks Ronnie! You do realize I have to kill you now?" Reggie said sorely. "Oh come on, what's a little tickle between friends?" he asked evilly. "Nothing, but what about between us?" she demanded. Someone banged on the door before he could ponder that mysterious answer. Reggie stood up. "I've got it. Maybe I can stop them before they do something stupid." She sighed, and went to the door...

Hiiro pushed past her. "We're taking him, and we're taking him now." He growled. Reggie stepped in front of him. "If you would listen for three friggin' seconds instead of barging in like you own the damn place!" she said insistently. "Calm down. I know you've been worried about him, and I know that you think we've been horribly cruel and all that-" "You know nothing." Hiiro glared. She really didn't. Duo was his friend, and a damn good pilot. What could she know of that? "Don't assume." She scolded. "When Duo crashed his suit, he was thrown from the cockpit, sustaining massive head and body trauma. If you'll look closely at his face, you'll see the slight scarring around the eyes, and the faint scar on the jaw line where we had to reassemble his jaw bone," she stood and trailed it lightly with her fingertips. The feeling was exquisite, but the presence of another scar was not so great. "We had to reassemble his right leg from scratch, and have just removed the Mender's pin Tuesday. He's still limping, and his ribs are still tender. Now do you see why we're more than reluctant to send him packing?" she asked calmly, hand still on his face. Hiiro frowned. ' Uh oh, I know that look. It's his Time-To-Punch-Someone- In-The-Gut-And-Run look' Duo thought. He spoke up. "Would you all just chill out for a sec? You're right to want to drag me back from Heaven, and she's right for wanting to keep me here. How about, instead of fighting, or in your case Hiiro, punching everyone in the gut and dragging us off, and come up with a reasonable solution?" Reggie put a hand to his forehead. "Either you have a fever and are delirious, or I'm trippin' again." She said. Ronnie laughed. "What, he's not allowed to make sense every now and again?" "He's right up there with you making sense." She retorted. Quatre cleared his throat. "Um... ladies, I understand your reasoning for this, but we need him back. Even with his injuries, he's still useful as an electronic operative." "An EO?!" Reggie yelped. "Come on, he's not that worthless!" "And you would know woman?" Wufei demanded, before he clamped his jaw shut. Kali had moved into eyesight, and he was under a spell. "Yes I would. I got paid to do that, except it was way too boring for my taste." She said haughtily, suppressing a giggle at Wufei's sudden shift into human mode. Trowa pursed his lips. "Again, we understand," Reggie cut him off. "But you need him back. Time for negotiations." She said. "What if we take them back with us?" Duo suggested to the guys. "What?!" they yelped. "What?!" the girls yelled. "Look, you aren't reaching an agreement anytime soon, so just drag them back." Duo said. "Plain and simple." "What skills do they have that could prove useful?" Wufei demanded. Reggie began ticking them off on her fingers. "Well, aside from mundane housewife stuff like cooking, cleaning, OR and ER skills, and bomb making, we can do mobile suit repair, hacking is a cinch, and so is basic all- around wholesome destruction." She paused, and took a breath. "Happy?" Quatre nodded. "If you don't mind." He said politely. Reggie pretended to consider this. Pretended mind you, because when five hotties ask you to come, you usually don't say no unless 1) they want to kill you, 2) you have a boyfriend, or 3) you're an idiot. "What do you guys think?" Kali tilted her head, eyes on Wufei. "Why not?" "Sure!" Ronnie smiled at Trowa. "What the heck?" Ami shrugged, also looking at Trowa. Reggie was slightly shocked by Ami's response, but she shrugged it off. " Like a less gentler Ami would say, what the hell. Let's do it." She said breezily...

"Heaven huh?" Hiiro asked him. Duo looked up. "Huh? Oh... come on, you're telling me that if there were four gorgeous babes catering to your every whim and babying you, you wouldn't consider that Heaven?" Hiiro glared at him. "Hn. I take it you've become attached to Regina." "Attached ain't the word." Duo corrected him. "Oh." Hiiro smirked; the closest he ever got to a smile out in the open. "What can I say? There's just something about her..." "That gentle touch combined with a 'screw with me and I yank it off' attitude?" he asked, raising an eyebrow. "Maybe... either that or it's because she's hot." He lied. No, he wasn't that shallow... exactly. "Well Zechs and Relena should have fun breaking them in." Hiiro coughed to cover up a small laugh. "Don't you have that backwards?" This time Hiiro laughed. "Probably. Let's head back. If Regina doesn't have them scrambling for the exit by now, then she's probably still working on it." Duo wheeled after him. "You got that right." He grinned...
