A Letter From Alexis
Dear Kristina,
It has been 22 years now since you left us and I miss you just as much now as I did then. The years have been full and at times quite hectic. I have made it a practice to write to you over the years and I keep the letters in my hope chest for the right time to come to give them to Lexie. You would be so proud of your daughter. She is so much like you it sometimes takes my breath away.
As I sit here in bed writing to you Sonny lies next to me shaking his head in disbelief. He has never understood this need I have to write to you on a regular basis. I often wonder if he will ever completely understand the heart of his wife. But, as long as he keeps loving me and supporting me what does it really matter that there are parts of my heart that he will never be able to fully understand.
Yes, we married and it was the most wonderful day. The service was held right here in the cottage with just our closest friends. Ned gave me away with Jade and Lexie as flower girls. Bobbie stood as my bridesmaid and we placed an easel with your picture on it where the Maid of Honor would have stood. It was such a beautiful service.
Tomorrow our daughters will be married in what will be, I'm sure, the event of the year if Sonny and Ned have anything to say about it. The girls have grown up together and are closer than you and I were when we were together. It has been the joy of my heart to watch them and has made the pain of losing you a little more bearable. I will find time alone with Lexie before the wedding tomorrow. I will give her all of the letters I have written to you and your half of our mother's necklace. I have told her often the story of us over the years and she is now as much a daughter to me as my own.
She loves you so much. Ned and I have made sure that she knows you as well as we do and she keeps a picture of you on the nightstand beside her bed.
The wedding of our daughters is taking place here at the cottage. Well, not exactly here, but just down the path next to where you were laid to rest. It was Jade's idea and Lexie couldn't have been happier about it. Of course, when they told me I dissolved into tears. And you know how young girls can be, they rolled their eyes a couple of times, shook their head and went on about their business.
It has been a full time job trying to keep Sonny and Ned from overprotecting them to the point of stifling their creativity. I remember Jade's first date. I felt so sorry for the boy. Sonny went into full 'mobster mode' and scared the life out of him. We never saw him again and Jade read her daddy the riot act like you wouldn't believe. I actually thought Sonny had forgotten how to act like a mobster. I won't make that mistake again. And he never made the mistake again of scaring off one of Jade's dates.
Ned has become a regular fixture at the cottage. He never remarried, doesn't even date. His whole life has been wrapped up in Lexie. Brook Lynn married and moved back to Port Charles to be closer to her father, which made Ned the happiest I have seen him in a long time. He is a grandfather now and he is just amazing. You would be so proud of him, Kristina. He left L&B shortly after you left us. It was just too painful for him to return there without you. Sonny decided to retire early and offered Ned the CEO position of the coffee business which kept him busy enough to get through the devastation of losing you.
Opera has become a major part of our lives since Lexie chose to follow in the footsteps of our mother. When she was a little girl I played her the tape of mother's last performance from that moment on she has never wavered in her choice of a career. She has such a beautiful voice. She is now the premier act at the New York Metropolitan Opera House.
Jade decided to follow me into law. She is better at 25 than I was at 35. I guess learning street smarts from her father and principles from me made for a better combination than I would have ever thought possible. Taggert called a few months ago. Seems he needed a lawyer to bail him out of a pretty intense situation. He called to see if I would represent him and I suggested to him that he should call Jade. You would have thought I slapped the man by the way he reacted. "If I wanted an amateur I would have called legal services. I need the best for this one." Boy, did I let him have it. He called again a few days ago to apologize for his 'less than professional behavior' and to let me know that Jade not only made the problem disappear, but made him look like a boy scout in the process. It does my heart good to know that there will be another Davis keeping the Port Charles police in line. Jade has decided to have a professional name and has chosen to practice under the name of JC Davis.
Jax finally married and settled down. He married Brenda and now has two boys. He's just as handsome and devilish as ever. And those boys of his are proving to be just as adventurous and daring as their dad. He often comes by for advice on how to deal with them. I get such a kick out of telling those boys about the exploits of their father and he threatens to sue me on a regular basis for defamation of character. He and I had a few tense moments after I returned, but we settled everything like we always have. He was very upset with me for leaving without telling him and staying gone so long.
Jason returned a few years ago with a wife and 3 children. Would you believe he is a doctor now? Not just any doctor but a Neurosurgeon. People call from all over the world requesting his expertise. He and Sonny don't have much to do with each other anymore. Sonny doesn't like to be reminded of the past and what it cost him, and neither does Jason. Jason never got over Elizabeth choosing Zander over him.
Now there is a story. Zander and Elizabeth. Several years ago, Zander received a letter from an attorney in Florida letting him know he was the sole heir and beneficiary of his parent's estate. Would you believe his parents were worth over 30 million at the time of their death? He came to me for help in investing the money. He and Elizabeth have two girls and two boys. Zander bought the Harborview Tower, turned it into a home for unwed mothers, rape victims and women suffering from spousal abuse. He also had General Hospital renovated and updated with the most modern equipment. And then there is the very generous scholarship fund at Port Charles University. He brings the student applications to me for the final choice of recipients. I am so proud of him. He has turned out to be more than I could have ever imagined for him.
Sonny has made my life beautiful and he always seems to know what I need before I do. A couple of days after I returned and was able to handle the loss of you better, he brought Bobbie over to see me. My beautiful husband knew I needed a friend to talk to. Since then Bobbie and I have become the best of friends. We share everything. Jade is just as much her daughter as she is mine.
You will never believe who Jade is marrying tomorrow. My heavens, Kristina she's marrying Johnny's boy. And it was Sonny that introduced her to him. I could have killed him. From the first moment Jade laid eyes on him her heart was gone. And like me, she had to wait until the dope grew enough brains in his head to figure out that she was the right one for him. Will we ever be rid of men who can't put two and two together and come up with four? OUCH! I didn't realize Sonny was reading over my shoulder.
We don't see much of Nicholas anymore. He moved back to Greece. As much as I love him, it was the best move for him. He needed to reconnect with Stefan to remember who he was, who he was raised to be. He lost his way for a while with the power of being the 'Prince', but from what I hear he has returned to the wonderful man I first knew him to be. He and Stefan will be here tomorrow for the wedding and I am so excited about seeing them again. The three of us will remember you and pay tribute to you in a very special ceremony after the wedding. I must remember to have a handkerchief in hand.
Well, I guess that's about it for now. I am eagerly looking forward to writing you about your first grandchild, but for now my husband is calling for my attention and he always and will forever come first with me. Rest quietly and know that I did as you asked. I've taken care of them as best I could and we are all happy and content. I love you and wait for the time when I will see you again.
All my love,
Alexis
