Forgotten Shadow

Chapter 1 "Promises"

"Mommy! Daddy!" the child screamed with tears streaming down her face. "I don't want to go! Let me stay here with you."

"Calantha, you can't stay here. You must go. It's King Li's orders and we must follow them" said her mother in a soft voice.

"You will be fine," added her father, "You must not forget who you are and you must not change for them. They can't change you without your permission." She nodded, and the guards grabbed her and jerked her away from her parents.

"We love you!" they yelled.

"I love you, Mommy! Daddy!" Calantha yelled back. "I will come back. I promise."

Those words remained in her head the whole trip to the Kinomoto Kingdom. "I promise."

"What do you promise?" asked a man, making her jump. The man looked to be in his 30's and had glasses on his nose. He had a red coat on and had a smile that seemed to make her worries and sorrows fade away. "What do you promise?" he asked again. She remained quiet and looked at the floor. "Well, my name is Clow Reed. What's your name?"

"Calantha." She answered quietly.

"Well, Calantha, it is very nice to meet you." He looked at her and still smiled. "Would you do me a favor, please?"

She looked at him and nodded. He smiled.

"Thank you. I need you to watch over this for me." He handed her a red book with a lion-like creature on the front and the title was The Clow. As soon as she held the book the seal on the front opened.

Calantha panicked. "Did I break it? I'm sorry."

"No you didn't break it, but it looks like you can use them. Open it." He motioned to her.

She slowly opened the book. She found that the pages where hollow and cards.

"I'm not surprised. Here take this." He handed her a necklace with a cross, made of crystal. Calantha put on the necklace and it turned red.

"When you become very angry it turns red and it turns purple when you heart is full of anger, malice, and hate."

"So it knows when I am angry?" he nodded, "How scary. Wait, I don't know how to use these cards."

"Do not worry, it will come to you in time." She looked down at the cards.

"But-" he was gone. "Where did he go?"

"Wake up everyone!" the soldier yelled.

"It was all a dream?" she thought. Calantha felt something in her arms and saw the book, the same book from her dreams.
