Okay I redid the first chapter, longer now!
"Are you sure you want to study? The weather seems to be getting bad." Joan said into the phone. She sat on her bed trying to plan a study session with Adam and Grace which wasn't working to well.
"Girardi, just get your butt over here now so I don't fail this class." Grace yelled back through the receiver.
"Wait you mean your house?" A very confused Adam chimed in.
"Nevermind... let's just meet at Rove's, his dads not home anyways." Grace replied.
"Okay," they all agreed. Joan hung up the phone and started to look for her book bag in her messy room. Once everything she needed was gathered to turned and headed to the kitchen to grab the keys to the car.
The kitchen was piled high with canned foods as Joan entered.
"What's with all this?" she asked.
"Oh, just your father trying to be prepared for this big 'storm'. Last time he did this the storm turned out to just be showers, but you know him." Her mother answered.
Joan quickly replied, once her mother had finished, "I'm going to Adam's to study, and I am taking the car."
"Oh no your not, not in this weather."
"But Mom! How am I supposed to get there?"
"Walk, I don't trust you with the car in a downpour."
"So I get drenched instead?" With this comment Joan headed for the door. She was too fast to hear her mother's comments to bring an umbrella and a flashlight.
Joan walked to Adam's as rapid as possible without stepping in all the puddles. An umbrella would have been helpful now. She finally made it to Adam's doorstep soaking wet shivering.
She knocked lightly, her body to cold to do it any harder, and did not have to wait long until Adam opened up the door.
"Jane." "Hi," she whispered back. He hurriedly led her inside and sat her down on the coach with a blanket.
The rain was beginning to fall even harder now and the echoes of a distant thunderstorm were becoming louder as every moment went by.
"Where's Grace?" Joan said once she was beginning to feel better.
Adam caressed her cheek before he replied. "She called, her dad wouldn't let her come anymore. Weather is too bad to go anywhere now, guess you are stuck here with me."
"Maybe it's better this way," she said as she laid her head down upon his shoulder. She was surprised when he leaned down and softly kissed her lips.
"What?"
"Come on," Joan whispered as she grabbed Adam's hand and began to pull him up the stairs along with herself. "We'll need to find some flashlights or something in case the power goes out. Your house is dark itself though."
Adam's hand moved from hers to around her waist as the neared the front of his bedroom. She felt the floorboards creak and leaned back even farther into Adam's arms. Joan liked Adam's house though, it was gorgeous. She suspected that his mother had decorated it; neither him nor his father seemed as if they would be interested in that sort of thing.
Still not much longer, but it's a start, working on redoing the next part now, should be up soon.
