The Most Beautiful Moment

Chapter 3: When There Are No More Tears

* * *From the recesses of Marik's mind…

My body… I feel as if I had been torn from it and thrown into the streets naked. My mind was numb; my face… rigid from my grief. But I was fine.

I didn't cry before, I wouldn't cry now. He left me on purpose, because he hated me. Now I hate myself. But I was fine.

* * *

It had been three years since Yugi had passed away. That morning, Marik had sat in his apartment among the debris of his paroxysm. The silent boy could never bring himself to look at his lover's lifeless form, heartbroken from the tragedy. But now, it seemed as if it were a distant memory for him.

"Marik Ishtar?" a loud voice boomed through the bars. He awoke, without a trace of fear in his eyes. The guard opened the cell. "You have a visitor." Every night troubled him, cursing his very existence. His once beautiful eyes were now bloodshot and stale. He followed the guard to a small room, where from behind glass, he looked at his sister.

"Marik…" she whispered. One of her hands was placed against the glass, while another held the phone. That phone seemed to be the only connection to the outside world. Marik said nothing. "I found you as soon as I could,"

"Why have you come here?" he muttered. His breath was hot, and his tongue had become sour with angst.

"Are you not happy to see me?" she asked him, dying for some response. His eyes were opened only so slightly, enough to see that her face was stained with the residue of tears. But he did not feel remorse. He felt hatred.

"Goodbye, sister," he hung up the phone and left the room, back to his cell, where he fell into a deep sleep.

Isis walked out of the prison, regretting her discovery. She held in her hands a police report, and a court sentence passed 3 months ago. On a venture through Egypt, she had come upon a possessed human, bearing a Millennium Item. Isis was horrified at the news she had been brought by the thief of the Ring.

* * *

The spirit snickered at Isis' ignorance.

"So, I guess you haven't heard," He held up the Millennium Necklace which had long ago been a gift from her to Yugi. She gasped at his acquisition.

"Fiend! How did you acquire this?!" her fear was not masked in her anger, and the spirit just simply eyed her.

"Tell me!!" she demanded. The spirit laughed again.

"All I had to do was take it from Yugi's lifeless hands,"

"Liar!" she cursed. "Marik would have protected him!"

"Hehe, he's too busy fending for his own emotions." Isis was beginning to grow extremely impatient with his lack of candour.

"What has happened?!!" she demanded.

"He went on a rampage," he said simply. "Sent over 100 people to the shadow realm with that pretty Rod of his,"

* * *

The thought of her vulnerability to that thief sickened her. This is not the way she wanted to hear of her brother's capture. Yet of all the questions that plagued her mind, Isis had only one that truly concerned her. Where were the Millennium Puzzle, and Millennium Rod?

* * *

Just after midnight, Marik was once again haunted by a ghostly nightmare. Visions and emotions flew around his eyes as his torment flourished. When he awoke, the last memory of the ordeal was of Yugi's helpless body. Cold sweat dripped around his naked body, as the moonlight shone through the metal bars of his window. He touched his face, feeling his skin, wondering how he was still alive.

'I'd rather be dead,' he thought to himself. He was hungry, but refused to eat. The mere scent of food made his stomach crawl in disgust. Wrapped in a light white sheet, Marik stood up to the night sky and for the first time since Yugi had passed, he cried.

"Hey, no need for that!" a familiar voice laughed from outside his cell. Marik turned around to see Joey walk up to the bars.

"Joey!" he said in astonishment. Since Yugi's death, Joey hadn't seen the tattered widow.

"You think I'd leave you here all alone?"

"But why?"

"Because someone wants to see you," Marik was more confused than ever.

"How did you get in?"

"The same way that you landed your sorry ass here," he joked. He lifted up his green jacket to reveal the Millennium Rod in his hand. And not only that, but the Millennium Puzzle was slung around his neck.

"How did you…" his surprise was not easily hidden, and Joey played on the slender boy's emotions.

"Well," he began. "It goes back to the day that Yugi passed away…" and he began his story.

* * *

"Come on Téa!" Joey pleaded. "Come with me!" The girl just shook her head.

"No!" she countered. "They're probably doing IT right now." Joey's jaw hung down.

"What are you, 10?"

"Look Joey, I have stuff to do, so just go over there by yourself okay?" And that was that. Joey walked down Téa's front porch and headed into the heart of the city. As the sky darkened with storm clouds, he wondered if he would be caught in the downpour, so he began to jog. He wanted Téa beside him. He didn't want to face Marik alone. After what happened two years ago, he was embarrassed and ashamed. He was so focused on his sprint that he didn't realize Bakura was calling to him.

"JOEY!" he screamed. He fell over himself and whined as his face kissed the pavement. He jumped up fuming.

"Hey!" he yelled. "What's the big idea??" he was so caught up in his own pain, he didn't realize who he was yelling at.

"Geez, sorry about that," Bakura apologized. "I didn't know you'd fall,"

"Hey!" Joey said jokingly, now realizing who it was. "What are you doing all the way down here?"

"I was just going over to Marik's," he said. "He wasn't at school, so I said I'd bring him his science assignment."

"Well I got his math," he told him. "So as long as we're going to the same place, we should hurry up and talk on the way." He noticed the rain as it began to speckle the papers he carried under his arm. Bakura nodded, and they began to sprint simultaneously towards Marik's apartment.

"I didn't think you'd actually go over to his apartment," Bakura added. Joey called back to him as the jog intensified.

"Why do you say dat?" His slang was muffled in the thick air. It was about to rain.

"Well, he's your ex, right?" A long pause drew out from that sentence. Joey never did respond to him, and the rest of the sprint was continued in silence. When they finally approached the apartment, the two stood in awe. They weren't sure at first, but Joey realized that the door to the complex had been smashed.

* * *

"Yeah I remember breaking that," Marik said blushing. As bad as the situation was, Joey felt a memorable arousal come to him. He was turned on by the Marik's ferocity, but he quickly put the thought out of his mind.

* * *

"I guess we don't need to knock," Bakura joked. It was like him to say a random pun once in a while. Joey couldn't help himself but giggle at the remark. Just as the rain started to pour, the pair had finally found shelter. "Let's hurry." he suggested.

"Great… stairs," Joey grudged. But they climbed. It really did suck that his apartment was on the 10th

floor, but it was common for the buildings around here.

* * *

"Wait," Marik interrupted the story. "Why didn't you take the elevator?"

"Elevator???" he asked. Marik thought it better to not mention that again.

* * *

The two were surprised to see that Marik's door was in pieces in the hallway. Neither of them said anything, but

knew that they needed to get in there quickly. Dodging the pieces of broken furniture, they discovered to their horror, Yugi lifeless on the couch. Marik was no where in sight, but a trail of fury was left in his absence. Joey was shocked, but even more so when he turned to Bakura. The Millennium Ring glowed around him , as the thief once again came to existence.

"Ahhh," he gasped. "The Puzzle is finally mine," He walked over to the helpless body and removed the puzzle from his neck. His teeth glistened with a sense of pride as he held it up. "Finally."

"I don't think so!" A lunging kick flared into the spirit's side, and the puzzle landed in Joey's embrace. He took off running through the door and knew nothing, but of how he wanted to get away.

* * *

"So, you raided my apartment now?" Marik said mockingly. Joey laughed quietly at his lack of seriousness, but there was something eerily fake about it. He still felt a familiar attraction to the vulnerable boy. "How did you get my rod?" Joey snickered.

"Your ROD?" Marik sighed in disgust. "I picked it up in the evidence room. You know how much power this thing has?" he held onto the puzzle, but handed the rod over to its rightful owner.

"May I see the puzzle?" Marik asked. Joey complied, after all, it was the last item that ever graced Yugi's body. He did feel sorry for his loss, Yugi was his friend too. But in someway he felt relieved. The unattainable was now in front of him.

"Thank you."

"No problem," he replied. He walked closer to the naked boy and grasped his hands. "Listen Marik, I know you been through a lot, but I'm here for you," His eyes shone brightly; compassionately. Joey took the Items from his hands and set them on the floor. But he did not get back up. Instead, he slowly removed the sheet from Marik's body and let the cold, midnight air grace his naked body. The tan colour of his skin hid himself against the night sky, and Joey knew he had never seen something so beautiful. He always wanted him, and he still remembered how his heart was torn the day he caught Marik fucking Yugi. It made him angry, it made him hate Marik with everything he had, but still, he loved him. With his new-found resentment he grasped Marik's erection and plunged it into his mouth. His tongue lapped him quickly and chaotically. Marik grasped his head and forced him harder and harder, trying to let pleasure be his escape from reality. Joey's mouth sucked the boy of all he had to offer, and Marik legs began to wobble until he could not stand any longer. The moment came to a climax, but before he could release his pallid liquid, Marik pushed him off. Joey fell back, out of breath, and panting hard. Maybe his emotions stopped him. Maybe his memories would not let Marik revisit the past. Joey had to know.

"What??" he asked, breathless like a horny dog. Marik simply eyed him and whispered lightly a couple of words.

"Bend over."

Today was not the day he would find out.
