Chapter 5: An Odd Question

Rin woke up early the next morning. It was still pretty dark outside, and her clock read 4:37 A.M. She put her head back down on her pillow after glancing at the clock, realizing she still had about an hour and a half until she needed to be awake, but after about ten minutes without falling asleep, she gave up. She got off her bed, and walked down the hall to the bathroom. She slipped inside, grabbed a towel, and turned the water in the shower on. She waited a couple minutes until it was warm, stripped herself of her clothes, and stepped in, letting the water beat down softly of her back. Once done, she climbed out of the shower, turned the water off, and wrapped the towel around herself. She plugged her hair dryer into the socket on the wall, not paying attention to Kagome's many attempts to warn her about the dangers of plugging something in with wet hands, and used it until her hair was dry. She left the bathroom, and tossed her pajama's that she had picked up off the floor into the laundry rom, on her way to her own bedroom. She pulled out some clothes from her closet, and silently changed into them.
Once she was finally done changing, fixing her hair up the way she wanted it, and had neatly applied make-up, the rest of her so-called 'family' had woken up. Kagome was a little bit surprised to see Rin awake and already finished getting ready, though she said nothing about it, and went downstairs to fix some coffee for herself and Inuyasha. Rin was allowed to drink coffee, but she never did. She didn't find the taste of it too great the first time she tried it, and ended spitting it out on Inuyasha. She had never tried drinking it again; either it was because of the taste, or Inuyasha might not let her drink it anymore. But either way, Rin didn't want to drink it. When she came downstairs, she was wearing a black tank top that had: 'I'm too hot, you might burn yourself if you touch me' printed on it in red letters. Of course Rin didn't really think what the shirt said was true. Really, she thought herself far from it, though others usually dissagreed with her. She never praised herself on her looks though, because she wasn't one of those concieted preps, who's life was possessed on if you're wearing clothes that are 'in', or if your make-up is perfect. But anyways, Rin was also wearing dark blue jeans, and a matching jean jacket. She had black eyeshadow on, and her hair, that now reached about the small of her back, was put up in a messy bun. She walked into the living room, and plopped down on the couch, the remote to the TV in hand. She pressed the power button, and the TV screen flashed on. Rin flipped through the channals, attempting to find something to watch, and once she found something interesting, she leaned back in the couch to watch it until she had to leave for school.
Before she knew it, it was 7:00. Rin quickly turned the TV off, and ran up to her room in search of her backpack. Once she found it, she ran back downstairs. "Bye, Kagome and Inuyasha!" She yelled to them before dashing away from the shrine that her 'family' lived on, and headed towards school. She was out of breath when she arrived at her locker, and she was running about ten minutes late. She quickly shoved her stuff into her locker, and headed off towards the office to get a pass.
"This is the sixth time this month, Rin," The secretary scolded while writing down a pass for Rin. "I'm sorry. I promise it won't happen again," Rin told her, still out of breath. The secretary just rolled her eyes, and handed Rin the pass. "Now hurry up and get to class. I doubt Mrs. Kyone will be very pleased to see that you're late...again!" 'Great,' Rin thought to herself, 'Now she's memorized my schedule!' Quickly, she dashed out of the office, heading for her classroom. "DON'T RUN!" She heard the secretary call after her, but of course, she paid no attention to it. When she reached the classroom, she clumsily stumbled in, blushing a bit as she did. She handed Mrs. Kyone her pass, with no need to explain. She made her way to the back of the class, and took a seat, and leaned back in her chair, ready to doze off like she always did in this class. "Glad you could join us, Rin." Mrs. Kyone said to her sarcastically, before continuing to drone on with the day's lesson. "Mmm," Rin muttered, closing her eyes and drifting off to sleep.
The bell awoke her about half an hour later, waking Rin from her sleep. She hurriedly grabbed her stuff, and got up to leave the class. "Rin, I need to have a word with you." Mrs. Kyone said to her before Rin had the chance to leave. "Hmm?" Rin said, walking over to her teacher's desk. "Well, since you find my class so boring in the mornings, to actually pay attention, maybe you should come by in the afternoons, for detention." Mrs. Kyone said to her, not looking up from the mess of papers on her desk once. Rin rolled her eyes in annoyance. This was far from the first time she recieved a detention from this class, and not the first time she had heard Mrs. Kyone say the exact same thing. "Yeah, whatever. Can I go now?" Rin asked impatiently. "Yes, you can go now." Mrs. Kyone said, the annoyance now in her voice. Rin turned around and headed out the door, bumping into someone on her way out, but not paying attention to who it was, and ran down the hall, towards her locker.
~~~~~~Moments Earlier~~~~~~~
Sensha watched through the window of Mrs. Kyone's class quietly, watching Rin and the teacher curiously. There was something about Rin that made him interested in getting to know her. Something that set her apart from all the other kids in the school. From the way it seemed, she wasn't really someone who fit in with anyone else. Suddenly, Rin turned around, opened the door, and bumped into him as she left. He was about to call out to her as he saw her run down the hall, but changed his mind, and went to go take a seat in the class.

Rin got more stuff out of her locker, and headed off towards her next class. She only had this class, and one other before lunch. That was when she planned on asking Sensha the question that had been nagging at her mind since last night. She had found out where the place in her dream was last night. Where that clearing was. She had once lived there. It all seemed so clear now. All she had to do now, was ask Sensha the question.
The two classes seemed to last for hours and hours, but eventually, the bell rang, dissmissing them to lunch. Rin quickly got her food, and searched around the lunch room for Sensha. Not seeing him, she quickly headed out to the courtyard. She spotted him sitting by himself underneath the shade of a tree, and timidly made her way over to him. She quietly sat down, not saying anything, and took a sip of her drink, to moisten her dry throat. "Um... Sensha?" She said quietly, trying to get his attention. He looked up, to meet her gaze. He hadn't noticed how beautiful her brown orbs were before, but now that he finally realized it, he was lost in them. Noticing he was staring into them, and the pink blush creeping up Rin's cheeks, he broke out of his trance. "Hmm?" He asked, a bit embarrassed. "I need to, uh, ask you something." Rin said, looking down to the ground, embarrassed as well at how stupid her question might sound to him. "Sure, ask anything." Sensha replied, noticing that she was also embarrased. "Okay, this might seem a little bit odd but... canyoupleasetellmewhereyoucamefrom?" Rin rushed out the last part, and seeing the confused expression on Sensha's face, she repeated it, slower this time, "Sorry. Could you please tell me where you came here from?" She blushed again, and expected him to laugh at her for being the biggest freak he had ever seen. Much to Rin's surprise though, he didn't laugh. "Well, um, you probably wouldn't believe me if I told you." Sensha said, now his turn to blush. "Trust me, I would most likely believe whatever you tell me." Rin said, almost in a laugh at herself for being so afraid of his answer. "Okay," Sensha started, "... I came from the feudal states of Japan." Now he waited for Rin to laugh at him, but no laugh came. Instead, he heard a small gasp. He once again looked into her eyes, this time to see a mixture of feelings; happiness, excitement, and one that seemed to tear his heart out... sadness. Without warning, Rin flung herself at him, taking him into a friendly hug, as though she had known him all her life. He could hear quiet sobs coming from her, but he couldn't tell if they were made from happiness, or sorrow. "I knew it was you, Sesshoumaru." She cried quietly into his shoulder. 'There she goes with that guy Sesshoumaru, again.' Sensha thought to himself, 'Who the heck is he anyways?' Rin suddenly pulled away from him, and he saw that her face was red from crying. For some strange reason, he felt dissapointed when she pulled back. 'Wait!' He practically yelled at himself in his mind, 'What am I thinking about?! I've only known her a few days! How could I possibly have feelings for her?!' Sensha mentally slapped himself, before another voice came into his mind, 'Yet, it seems I've known her for so much longer.'
