Shane found Faith sitting alone in the hotel bar two nights later, her head bent over a glass of whiskey. He knew she hated it, it made her sick and she would only drink it when she was already drunk. He sat on the bar stool next to her and found she hadn't changed out of her ring clothes, merely pulled her coat on over them.

"Hey Fai." He greeted.

"Hi." She replied quietly. "Want a drink?" She picked up her glass and shook it.

"No. I heard about you and Jeff."

She gave a nod, but didn't say anything, only drained her glass.

"He misses you."

"Shane, don't. I feel bad enough as it is."

"I'm sorry, but I'm his friend. It's my duty to inform you how badly you broke his heart."

Faith motioned for another drink and Shane watched her finish it in two swift gulps. Nicole had returned to work that week, she told him in the strictest confidence how Faith had cried after she came home from Jeff's that night, but she didn't know exactly why Faith broke it off.

"What's going on Fai?" he asked. "With you?"

"Nothing."

"Don't lie. You can tell me."

Faith licked her lips and looked at him, her mascara had ran giving her the dreaded 'panda' look. "I can't tell anyone Shane."

There was some hint in her voice that made him think she was talking about something more serious then he could imagine. Before he could question her futhur she got up and pulled her coat tight around her.

"I love him Shane, I really do. But I can't be with him."

"Fai...."

"I just can't Shane."

Faith didn't sleep again. She lay on her back in the dark and stared up at the ceiling. She'd figured out why she didn't like sleeping anymore, it was like a line from a Slipknot song she'd heard 'Everytime I close my eyes I feel it all slipping away'. It was true, everything was just beyond her reach. It didn't matter. She was sticking to her plan and she was proud of that. But didn't she deserve a little bit of happiness, no matter what. No, she was doing well, it would be easier this way. Faith sat up and hugged her knees, she couldn't see anything in the dark. It didn't matter.
Jeff was sitting on the edge of his bed. His conversation with Shane that had ended just minutes earlier still rang in his head. She still loved him, and if she still loved him nothing else mattered. Shane had played the part of best friend well, telling Jeff everything he wanted to hear.

"She looked really unhappy, and if she's like that she must regrett it too."

He still didn't know, he wasn't sure. He loved her, he would never stop loving her. Jeff wanted her. Faith should of been lying in the bed behind him, she wasn't and he ached. He would have to get use to it, she was gone.
