Nicole was woken by the sounds of the television, still blazing at 2 a.m. Faith was streched out of the sofa, hugging a pillow. She only moved her eyes to look at Nicole who sat by her feet.
"I think you should go the Doctor's and get some pills or something. You're going to end up like a zombie Fai."
She rolled over onto her back and nodded. "I know."
"Renne called."
Faith groaned. Renne was her sister and they didn't get on. the Geller sisters where basically the same person with a three year age gap and there where only two reason's Renne ever called. Either she wanted something or her mother had forced her too. It was probably the latter seeing as she'd taken Faith's brand new jeans and shoes three weeks ago.
"Renne can go......"
Nicole clamped her ahnd over Faith's mouth. "Ok, I get it. So, are you going to tell me why you're watching Sleepless in Seattle for the fourth time since you broke up with Jeff?"
"If I say it's just a really good film will you believe me?"
"No."
Faith sat up and pushed her tangled hair back. For a second, Nicole saw just how far her best friend had crumbled, she saw Faith how she was now. Ruined spirit and all. It made her want to cry. That was the test of a real friendship, when one of you got upset, so did the other one. She slipped her arm around Faith's shoulders and she began to cry.
"I miss him so much."
"Oh Fai."
"I can't stop thinking about him. I want him back."
"You can have him back Faith, he loves you."
She shook her head. "I can't. I really wish I could but I can't and it hurts."
Nicole hugged Faith as tight as she could and tried to hide her own tears, what could be destorying her best friend like this. To the point where she gave up on everything, even love.
"I want him back." She sobbed. "I want him back."
Later, ,much later, when it was all said and done, he couldn't remeber exactly how they came to be in the park. He faintly remembered that he'd been going to pick up some of his things and saw Faith walking into the aprk gates, dressed all in pink looking five years younger. He'd followed her, not being able to keep any of the thing she had to say inside for much longer. Jeff was going crazy without Faith. He didn't get the chance, she'd collapsed onto the floor right in front of them and minutes later the paramedics had arrived, flashing blue lights and all. Now he was sitting in a cramped waiting room, with Nicole opposite and the Nurses only offering them coffee, not information. They hadn't spoken to each other. Jeff's throat was dry, he didn't think he'd be able to get any words out. His mind was racked with worry. He'd half expected this, half expected Faith's body to give up. Stress and no sleep with constant matches, it wasn't good for anyone. Jeff wanted to see her, just to hold her hand. When he saw her, Jeff was never letting her go again. Shortly after, a Nurse took them to an office. The women dressed in a white doctor's coat seemed far too young to be 'Head of Department' and he wasn't sure he trusted her eniterly.
"I'm Doctor Chandler. Please sit."
She spoke with a tone of efficency, like she never suger coated anything because what was the point?
"Faith is stabalised, but we found another Doctor's number in her notes and had them fax over her file. She's been under Neurology at St.Micheals. It appears that some time agos he suffered some sort of head trauma and it caused a small bleed on her brain, this wasn't discovered until months later."
Jeff felt Nicole grab hold of his hand. her mind was reeling, just like his. Head trauma, neruology, internal bleeding. it sounded nasty.
"By the time St.Micheals discovered the bleed it had widned and was putting pressure on the brain. This caused another tear which bled, put more pressure and you can see the cycle."
"Her brain is bleeding?" nicole asked almost as if she didn't understand.
"Simply, yes. By the time she was having symptons the bleeding was out of control. She was....."
"Wait." Jeff interuppted. "Out of control? You can fix it though right? I mean, you can operate or something."
"As a result," Doctor Chandler began loudly, ingorning him. "Faith's body can't keep up. Her systems are failing and she's suffered a brain hemorrage. She doesn't have long. I'm sorry."
"But you can fix it right?" Jeff repeated, as though he hadn't heard the Doctor's last sentance. "You can save her, can't you?"
"Mr. Hardy....."
He couldn't say any more.
