I hope you like this!  It's my first Slayers fic… I don't own them, but I do think they're pretty great!

"Compared to what my sister used to do to me, that was a piece of cake!"  Lina Inverse was yelling at the top of her lungs as she ran down the halls of the Seyruun family estate.  She practically carried the tall, blonde man who was running just to keep up with her as she searched for their captors.

"I didn't know you had a sister..." he replied in between shrieks meant to let her know how much it hurt when she pulled his hair.

"No?  Well, I guess I'll have to tell you about it sometime, if I can hold the attention of your jellyfish-brain for long enough."

A couple weeks later, Lina and Gourry were finishing a meal at the inn-du-jour.

"Is now a good time?"  The swordsman was relieved that he remembered something the petite redhead had said to him.

She finished her last bite, and called the server over for the bill.  "For what?"

"You said you'd tell me about your sister.  You don't hafta tell me if you don't want, I was just curious..."

Lina was too full to be very aggressive, so she simply rested her head in one of her gloved hands.  "You can't remember names, let alone when I try to fill you in on important information, but at the drop of a hat you can recall something dumb that I mentioned quickly, in passing?"

"I guess... well...?"

By this point, the fiery girl had just about lost her flame altogether.  "Alright, well, I guess I do owe you that much.  I'm ready to go to sleep soon, though, so it's only gonna be part of the story for now.  Think you can focus long enough, Gourry?"  She paused to make sure he wasn't already spaced-out.  "Man, I haven't seen hide nor hair of her since I was about ten... Ceipheed knows what she's up to these days..."

~~ (Begin first-person narration from Lina)

I don't know much about my mother, and even less about my father.  Because of this, I usually think of my sister when I think of a mother-type figure in my life... She and I had a very interesting relationship, and she's one of the few people I'm afraid of.

She was there when I was born, of course.  Later on, she told me that she remembered I was kicking and screaming when I arrived - very indicative of the kind of person I'd become.  Well, I guess it's pretty safe to say she was right!

Anyway, I may have been screaming, but I was beautiful, and I'm not just saying that!  Luna (that's my sister's name) said that everyone in Zephilia came just to see me and pay my mom compliments.  You don't think she'd just say that, do you?  If she said it, it almost has to be true, unless it was more important for her to lie, like to make sure things happen the way they're supposed to... Oh, no!  You don't think that whole time she was just trying to boost my confidence?!?  She was even worse than I thought!  'But, at least it worked...  :) '

[Gourry just sat there, desperately struggling to find the best way to express a contradiction without getting pounded.  He quickly decided, though, that it would be better to take a completely different route.  "Lina, you seem really worked up... Wanna just wait until later to keep going?"  The blond was truly worried about his traveling companion.

The sorceress looked around and noticed that only a couple tables still had patrons at them.  "Yeah, alright.  It's getting late anyway.  I'll see you in the morning."  She stood up, went to her room, and fell into bed.]

End Chapter 1

Well, the story I wanted to start is started… I have a feeling the writer's block will be awful as I go, but I wasn't sure how I felt about it to begin with… I was never intending it to be more than about 4 or 5 chapters… let me know what you think, we'll see if it's good enough for me to keep going…
