Bright eyes sadly watched out the window as Wufei disappeared down the road and into the morning fog. The Chinese boy was going away on a mission. Duo slowly closed the curtain and walked away.
Wandering down the hallway he stopped in front of a closed door. Hesitantly he reached for the handle and opened it. Blinking, he walked into the room. He turned off a little bedside lamp with surprise. It was unlike Wufei to leave it on.
Leaning in the doorjamb he thought longingly of the missing occupant.
Duo took on last look around the room and sighed. A pale whisper escaped his lips. "I love you." As he turned off the lights and shut the door behind him, the words hung in the air like a fey mist.

Three days later Wufei returned. He wearily walked to his room, but hesitated inside the doorway. There was something there, inside the room. A presence that had not been there before.
Setting down his things, he looked around. Finding nothing amiss, he walked into the kitchen.
"Was anyone in my room while I was gone?"
Three pairs of blank eyes stared back at him. "I don't believe so Wufei." Quatre looked at him quizzically.
Dismissing it, Wufei made himself dinner and headed back towards his room. Walking into the hallway he almost collided with Duo.
"Whoa! Sorry 'Fei." Duo grinned and headed into the kitchen.
"Duo." Purple eyes turned back towards him. "Were you in my room?"
The braided boy thought for a moment. "Oh, yea I turned off your little lamp." He grinned and shrugged.
"Oh." Wufei turned and walked distractedly towards his room.

Later, as Wufei sat meditating, the presence tickled on the edge of his consciousness. It was like a playful zephyr, caressing his ears with an unheard message. But as Wufei concentrated on it, he couldn't figure out the message or where it had come from.
He concentrated harder and realized it was sad. It had been left adrift, alone, hanging in the air.
~*~
For two days it followed him around his room. It was haunting him. Begging and pleading for him to find where it belonged. He felt a sense of urgency, but still could not understand the message.

One morning Wufei unaccountably left his door open as he walked into the hallway. Turning into the kitchen he was met by bright, startled eyes.
Eyes that he dreamed about. Eyes that had always been there. Eyes he had taken for granted. Big beautiful purple eyes that he really looked into for the first time.
In those eyes he found the answer, the other half of the whisper that haunted him. There he saw an answer to a question he had never dared ask.
Discovering the door open, his specter rushed out into the hallway. Brushing by it whispered "I love you" in his ear. Having given its message at last it rushed to join its twin that was that special spark in Duo's eye.
