My Girlfriend's Father (In a sense)

"I can't believe you told Chakotay we're dating, after you said that we shouldn't tell anyone. Now we're both going to have to go to his office at noon." I whispered over breakfast in the mess hall.

"He already knew." B'Elanna replied in the same harsh whisper. "Besides, he's like the father I never had."

"I don't care if he even was your father, he could even be Bozo the sympathy clown and I would be a little shocked, but I wouldn't care, you said not to tell anyone and you did which means that I get to tell someone." My voice started to raise, parts of the crew looked up from their breakfast's for a second to stare then went back to eating and talking.

"Shut-up, you're not going to tell anyone, and that includes raising your voice and yelling it to everyone here." B'Elanna whispered.

"Look at us, we haven't even been dating for two weeks and we're already fighting." I whispered.

"I know I shouldn't have told Chakotay, but he has the right to know. I've know him since I left the academy and he's been there for me ever since. Plus, we aren't doing any good about keeping those rumors as lies by sitting here whispering to each other in private." B'Elanna looked around to make sure Neelix wouldn't come over.

"Then I guess we should leave. I'll go first because I have a shift in two minutes. Then, you'll leave after ten minutes and go to engineering. Finish what you're eating too. Remember, Chakotay wants to talk to us about well, us, at noon. Don't be late or he'll kill me." I smiled and left.

On the bridge from 0800 to 1130 hours, I had this nagging feeling that Chakotay was giving me the death stare. I wanted to just turn around and tell him to mind his own business and leave me alone, but of course I have self restraint and I didn't. I was going to lunch soon and then after that, happy time with the man that's gonna kill me.

I met Harry and B'Elanna for lunch and Harry kept asking me why I wasn't going to be on the Bridge at noon.

"What's happening? Where are you going? Is it a secret mission briefing?" Harry asked as I tried to eat whatever Neelix cooked up.

"No Harry, it's not a secret mission briefing, nothing like that." I answered not even looking up at him, just looking at the bluish gunk Neelix cooked up for lunch. "It's nothing major, nothing at all."

"Last time you were on a secret mission, you didn't tell anyone." Harry said, pointing his finger at me.

"You didn't ask." I answered.

"Even if I did ask, would you've told me?" Harry asked.

"I would've, but I was under orders not to tell anyone. Sorry Harry, maybe next time you'll get the 'secret mission'. Until then, I'm the only one that people would expect to leave. And, everyone knows that Chakotay and I used to be on opposite ends. Until you start hating Chakotay or become the rebel, I'm the guy to call." I smiled and B'Elanna started to laugh.

"I gotta go Harry." B'Elanna said. "Bye Tom."

"Bye." We said in unison.

"You two are dating aren't you?" Harry said as soon as B'Elanna left. He was twirling his fork in the so called food.

"How'd ya know?" I asked kind of stunned.

"Now B'Elanna laughs at everything you say." Harry smiled. "She never did that before, it was always, 'You're so immature.'"

"I'm a funny guy, Harry." He stared at me for a while. I threw the napkin down on the plate. "Fine, we're dating, but keep it quiet. The reason I'm not going to be on the bridge is that Chakotay wants to talk to B'Elanna and me about our relationship." I started to leave. "By the way, why did you wait until B'Elanna left to tell me that you knew?"

"I knew she would kill me and you when she found out that I knew. Now that you admitted it, she'll only kill you." He waved goodbye, then he left for the Bridge. I stared at him for a second then decided that I should get going too. Don't want to be late for my 'talk' with Chakotay.
