Late nights could be such troublesome times. The dark Miami sky was lit by specks of bright twinkling stars. 1.50am… Possibly the worse time to be awake…I thought I had left my insomnia back in Syracuse—along with my past.
Something about tonight just isn't letting up.

The empty streets I now trekked was now but a mere shadow of its usually bustling self. As I turned a corner and met with an unfamiliar wall...
Just when I was about to leave the dank place, a chilly breeze blew by me.
"What's the rush handsome?" a husky voice tinted with amusement asked. Slowly, I turned around and saw the then empty alleyway filled with a large table full of an assortment of things. Seated on the opposite side was a slight olive-skinned young woman with black hair, green eyes plus a strange gypsy get up… the usual image of mysterious fortune-tellers in alleyways. A small incense burner at the edge of the table filled the area with the thick smell of lavender as she shuffled a deck of black cards, which I'm assumed were tarot cards. "It's still early isn't it?"
"Well, technically it's still early but it's 2am in the morning," I reminded her. In spite of the mysterious aura she was giving out, I found myself approaching her table.
"Take a seat. Make yourself comfortable," she smoothed out the dark velvet cloth hanging from the table, setting the deck of tarot cards aside. "What would you like me to do on this fine night?"
I took my place and returned her exotic green-eyed gaze with my own. "I'm all yours. Impress me,"
"How about palmistry? You seemed like the type who doesn't believe in tarot. Some second-rate gypsy wannabe strung you along before?" she teased. I gave a sheepish grin while she reached for my left hand, bangles clanging loudly in the silent night.
"Let's see…your heart line says that you are active and aggressive in love… but yet it is ever-changing," I gave a short nod in reply, not willing to contribute any more. "And your head line tells me that you are a practical person, someone who thinks things through carefully and has good concentration, and yet you're still a pretty carefree person. You probably work with the police or something," I raised an eyebrow at that.
"The last sentence was your own comment right?" She grinned and nodded.
"Yep. With all those qualities, I deduced you're with the cops." Her demeanor changed drastically as she fingered the lines running down the middle of my palm. "You have an active personality and you love to travel. You did well in school, I presume. Earlier in your life, something tragic might have struck you and you became withdrawn from others around you. You had changed directions in life but have now began to finally settling down and at long last getting something out of it."
I bit my lips tensely…she had struck a chord. Sensing my distress, she reached forward & handed me a small package wrapped in purple crepe paper. "I know you had made some tough decisions before but you have to step out into the future. What happened to your friend is meant to be and cannot be undone. And there are still people who needs you to be there for them,"
"How did you…?"
"Shh… answering you now would be in vain. Go back and sleep on it. You'll wake up seeing things clearer than you had in years," she winked and hurried me out of the alley.
With her strange but words, I left. Besides, the fragrance of the lavender was very lulling.
End.
My 2nd CSI: Miami fic. Speed-centric. I'm sure you smart readers have already guessed it. *grins* It's quite short & I dunno why I wrote this. Hope it turned out okay. This was written mostly in the dead of the night so pardon any grammar errors.
Read & Review!!!
